I don't recall seeing a Battery Charger Thread so here's a good start for one. Jay Leno speaking about battery chargers with Ctek. I currently have a Battery Tender on my Diesel and a dual one on our jet ski's. After seeing this video on Ctek chargers I'm considering switching to them.

I always thought there was a difference between a tender and trickle charger. http://www.batterytender.com/Frequently-Asked-Questions/#answer4

This product is intriguing and as stated many OE are on board. I wonder "how" different it is? And anyone find pricing?

I recently bought a dual bank "Battery Tender" for our Jetski's and it was around $80. I looked into the Ctek chargers and they were around $200 for a comparable charger. But their technology is far superior to the Battery Tender which is a trickle charger. I think it had 8 levels of charging. It's pretty interesting to read about how they work.

Interesting. I had to buy a battery charger the other day because someone left their keys in the car with the lights on lol. At least it was in the garage.

I've been using a Ctek 3300 for about 5 years now. Works great.

I hardwired the pigtail to my battery and ran the end up into the trunk for easy access.

I've always had NOCO chargers. Love them and lots of cool accessories for them. For their 7.2A and lower chargers you can plug them into OBDII port.

I've got a NOCO Genius 7200 that I purchased when I bought the BMW, as I was storing two cars and got sick of switching the CTEK 3300 back and forth. It looks nice, and the "features' seemed cool, but I've found that my CTEK does a better job restoring discharged or weaker batteries, and dealing with my RV deep cycle batteries. I've had several batteries the NOCO was unable to fix that my CTEK did fix; but haven't had one that the CTEK couldn't fix that the NOCO could.

I ended up buying a second CTEK, a 4.3, as well!

Just my CAD0.02, pretty much worthless in the US of A.

Good idea. And consider a new battery if yours is 4-5+ years old.

+1 Thanks Charlie! Might be hitting up Ray soon! :thumbsup

I'll be moving within walking distance of work in December so the ZHP will not be driven much. How long is "too long" to let it sit, it's not going into storage per say, but definitely will not be driven as much. I'm thinking it might not leave the garage for 2 plus weeks at a time...is it worth getting a charger or just continue to use the car off and on and not worry about it? Battery was replaced last January.

I have the BMW branded Deltran Battery Tender.
I use it on everything: cars, boat, golf cart, lawn tractor... I just rotate it from one to the other a few random times during the winter...
I've even brought really dead batteries back to life with it by fooling it into thinking the battery has voltage by having a jump box on the battery when connecting the tender leads. This thing has worked great for the last 7 years

Even out here in the desert leaving my car or truck sit when it's cold (30-40) the battery starts getting weak.

Daniel - I'd definitely get a battery maintainer, and I'm a strong believer in the CTEK product.

If you think that you may not be using the car a lot, make sure you plug it in EVERY time you park it, as sometimes that 2 days can turn into a week, which can turn into two...

997.2s are known for being very power-hungry, and a low battery seems to be the cause of all kinds of little electrical gremlins. To be safe, I plug the car into my CTEK using the cigar-lighter plug almost every night. Of course, now the car is in winter hibernation mode also plugged into the CTEK.

cheers

No I wanted the clips so I can use it on all of my toys and equipment.
Get the identical Deltran. You're going to pay extra for the roundel on the front of the BMW branded. That's the only difference

Sounds good, will do. This is what I'm thinking could definitely happen. Will go with the Deltran + lighter adapter for now as it seems like it fits my needs for the price.

Thanks for the advice, all!

Why lighter adapter? Does the cable run thru the door jamb? I'd go under the hood as your car will be outside if your rooms don't give up the garage to the newb. That way you can close the hood and the devise is locked in there. (Maybe the same is true thru the door?)
