I have a noise in the front suspension/steering of my car. On cold mornings it goes "eek eek" when making slow turns like pulling into my work parking lot in the morning.

I thought it was sway bar related so I removed it and the endlinks as a test. Well, drove into work early this morning and the noise remains. Any educated guesses what it might be? I'm thinking control arm ball joints or tie rod ends? Don't think it's the strut mounts but who knows for sure.

I have it to and do think it's the top hat /FSM. It cured the same noise when I replaced them on Colin's '02 330Ci a few years back. I have the parts on hand and hope to do mine soon.

Thanks for confirming Shawn. That FSM has a pin roller bearing race in it that can degrade. A lot of fellas don't know this unless they've done their suspension at least once.

My strut mounts have ball bearings and are only about two years old. I replaced them when I installed new Koni struts. I think they are Meyle brand. They were actually my first suspect so I squirted some lube into them thinking that if they were the culprit the lube might silence them if only temporarily but enough for me to identify the source of the issue. The lube made no difference.

I too tried lithium grease to no avail.

Shawn,

I found your original post on e46fanatics (http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?p=15008205).

That thread sounds just like my issue. As I stated I also have Meyle strut mounts. I just find it odd that lubrication has no effect. What brand mounts did you switch to?
