Hi everyone, I am selling my beloved ZHP. The family has expanded enough now that I need a larger sedan.

The car has 151k miles and is basically in mint condition both in how it drives, the interior and exterior. That's not an exaggeration, anything worn has been replaced, always with OEM parts, by a BMW specialty repair shop in Boston over the last 5 years I've owned it.

Truly a car meant to be enjoyed by an enthusiast. I don't need to sell it, but I fear I just won't drive it anymore, and my garage only holds 2 cars (care has always been garaged)...The only other thing to mention is that the car has been in a minor front end collision. No frame damage, got a new hood, headlights, cooling system, bumper and misc parts out of it. I have Liberty Mutual's BMW Performance insurance, so all were replaced with OEM parts by the best repair shop in Boston. Accident was about 1.5 years ago, and car drives exactly the same as it did before.

Quick specs:

2004 ZHP 330i sedan
VIN: WBAEV53494KM05591
10/2003 build date
Cold Weather Package
Xenon headlights
Black leather interior (not alcantra)

Notable updates:

Dinan Stage 3 circa $5000 (minus suspension which I think is too stiff--replaced with ZHP stock):
Dinan exhaust, stage III engine software, throttle body, front strut brace, cold-air intake, floor mats

Diffsonline 3.73 Limited Slip Differential (OEM BMW Motorsports) Circa $4500

- BMW Performance SSK
- OEM Euro autofold mirrors (they work, bought brand new ones and had programmed properly!) with OEM European aspherical mirror glass
- OEM clears (front + rear + side)
- OEM Nav (updated with 2014 maps and latest MKIV software) with reverse camera (which is fabulous)
- OEM AL Xenon headlights (replaced 1 year ago)
- OEM Bluetooth TCU (latest)
- OEM Aux (currently connected to an AirEnabler for wireless music streaming via iOS devices)
- OEM 6 speed shift knob illuminated
- replaced all 4 OEM #135 wheels 2 years ago with brand new ones. Running Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, 1 season on them
- Winter wheels = OEM #119 (17x8) with new Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme performance snows
- OEM M door sills
- OEM first aid kits under both front seats
- added full size spare on 17" steel wheel
- swapped steering wheel to tri-stitched perforated leather wheel (m3)
- Has had all recalls, including rear taillight, and passenger airbag
- had a blown speaker last year, so I put in the Bavarian Soundworks speakers to replace the blown HK ones (connected to stock equipment). The sub remains the original HK subs
- Replaced the rearview mirror with one from a 2012 e90 (compass mirror, garage door opener, auto-dim)

I have a book 3" thick with receipts... you name it' it's been replaced with OEM parts--water pump, oil pump, fuel pump, suspension, brakes, all the plastic trim pieces in the interior that had chipped or cracked...

Like I said, the car is mint... Actually, the drivers seat leather is a bit worn from me sitting on it all day. Not ripped, always conditioned, still excellent shape, just not "mint."

The want is strong.

This is a perfect example where a choice between a primo higher mileage car with tasteful add-ons preserved and appreciated is in the same price territory as low mileage virgins.

Pending any funny smells, this is one that I would choose over a low mileage virgin ZHP.

The rear-view camera install done at one of the best car stereo shops in the country, Sound-in-Motion in Allston, MA.

The basic setup components are:

NavTV video switching module, model BMWV+. Unfortunetley, you can't direct link to the URL, so enter 2004 330i factory Nav from the link below:
https://navtv.com

http://www.bigpatsfans.com/xirev/xirev5.jpg

18125

Sure, you could use the OEM TV tuner, but this is actually easier, has a warranty, SIM installs them all the time, and they are rock solid. Plus, they're basically plug and play with the MKIV. $250 for the camera, $350 for NavTV module + about 4 hours of labor. Total cost was around $1100. And totally worth it.

That video module will be used to tie into a reverse camera. There are many cheap options out there, but I like the wide-angle of the Eclipse BEC-108.
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-yLLJGyfLOzD/p_099BEC108/Eclipse-BEC108.html

http://www.bigpatsfans.com/xirev/xirev6.jpg

You need a skilled shop to cut this into the car properly. I have them mount it above the license plate and angled down slightly. Looks better than the OEM solution which replaces the trunk release button with some silly button / camera combo thing. Also much better quality than those $hitty keyhole cameras. The camera of course will be tied into the reverse line on the car, so when the car switches to reverse, the Nav screen will be overtaken with the camera automatically...

Mafia members found a German ebay dealer who re-wraps OEM M3 steering wheels. The thing is better than the stock one and the tri-stiching is beautiful.

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback. I totaled up the money I've put into the car--around $56k since 2010. That's basically all OEM replacement parts, the LSD and the Dinan parts. Yikes--maybe it's better if I don't keep a spreadsheet next time..;)

Hi everyone, bumping an old thread. 1.5 years have gone by since I've posted the thread and I think the time has come to sell the car. I've had elbow problems and shifting has become painful for me--going to need surgery in a few months... Everything is the same on the car as above except:

- 168k miles now
- replaced both the front and rear bumpers within the last 6 months (new, OEM of course, fresh paint)
- upgraded the stereo ($5k total cost): Focal speakers up front, JL stealthboxes in rear deck and a Genesis amp. Uses original radio, nav, bluetooth etc. Sounds amazing.

Anyhow, not sure how to price it really, and won't list it anywhere other than putting on this forum and seeing if anyone is interested for now...

Here are the pics of the stereo install btw. If you're familiar with Sound-in-Motion in Boston, they are one of the top shops in the country. I just delivered the car for a few weeks to them and let them do their magic. Incredible sound now, and basically no loss of trunk space. Some custom JL enclosures...

I have had both the BMW V+ with reverse camera installed as well as the Intravee--they worked fine together. Since then I have removed the Intravee and installed an AirEnabler (perfect if you have an iPhone) to the AUX input. The whole thing is tucked away under the cupholders. My iPhone streams via wifi over AirPlay to the car, and doesn't interfere with factory Bluetooth. Works perfectly. Really wanted wireless streaming music in my car. I have to say having Bluetooth, Nav (latest maps) and streaming music in the ZHP helps keep it feeling current...

How much did the dealer charge to replace the windshield? Did it come out just as factory installation? Did they have to remove the windshield cowl?

My car is 03 and I would like to upgrade to a windshield with light/rain sensor, together with the LCM. Getting rid of some scattered tiny stone chips along the way.

Dealer charges about $1100 to replace the windshield, cowl, rubber moldings etc. Massachusetts is a $0 deductible glass replacement, so you get reimbursed by insurance for the replacement. Windshield is perfect. My original had the rain sensor as does replacement. BMW stamped of course

But with AUX-in you loose steering wheel control, don't you?

Also, is there a reliable source of cheap BMW Nav map DVDs? $200 for a map every 2~3 years seems too steep, and I have heard bootleg disks could harm the DVD reader.

- You have steering wheel control for volume using the Aux input. You have full, uninterrupted access to the iPhone for doing whatever you want. I was one of one the first people to use the Intravee II on old iPods back in the day and have tried a number of other things. This is by far the best solution I've used.

- As for the maps. 2015 was the last and final year of the DVDs available for the MKIV system. I just ordered mine from the dealer (part # 65902365699) for North American HIGH. It's a 2 DVD set made by TomTom (East / West coast). Cost was $200... I bought it because, well, why not--its most updated maps you could get. FWIW, BMW was still using the MKIV DVD Nav system as late as 2010 in the X3, so they kept updating maps for 5 years after production of the final car to use the system.

Depends on risk... $80, may or may not be legit. $200 didn't seem like an unreasonable cost to ensure they were legitimate.

Dug up a picture of the OEM NAV DVD for those interested. The image on the front of the carton is not the MKIV system that the e46 came with (it's BMW's CIC Nav which was 2008-2013ish BMWs--eye roll BMW).

Anyhow, the DVD High DVDs are definitely the correct ones for the e46's MKIV computer (make sure to upgrade to OS v.32)

If you haven't already, make sure you upgrade the MKIV Nav screen to the latest version (v.32). It's a few years old, but is required for the MKIV to read maps newer than 2009. Part # 01590141891. about $15.

Strangely enough, I couldn't find the SW version on my NAV. I have fiddled through all the menus but still no luck. However the splash screen seems customized, so probably the previous owner already upgraded the firmware?

So that's a "custom" version of v.32 CD which is OS 4-1/00. The bootup logo is not standard (should just say ==BMW==) and the software version has been removed from the display. Should be fine though, there are a few companies that modify the 4-1/00 software (change logo, POI etc). No big deal, you'll be able to read the current maps.

Install instructions for the update:
