Any number of reasons:

They could have bought it with the intention of trying to flip it
They might have thought it was something it was not. The guy I bought my car from thought it would be closer to an M3 than it was.
They bought the car with no intention of selling it but then found a different car that suited their needs better.

Lots of possibilities.
