So I've read a lot about (what I'm assuming is) a slight lifter tick my car has, and has had since I got it. Probably the only reason I even noticed it was because my previous e46, an xi, was perfectly, buttery, smooth. I've heard it's pretty normal though, especially after an autocross event, etc. so I ended up not really worrying about it.
Going to jump around for a second here, but our Grand Cherokee has a bit of a vibration when stopped in drive. I didn't have any luck after changing the trans fluid, so I took a wild guess and figured it might be dirty injectors. I picked up a bottle of marvel mystery oil and started adding it to the tank at fill ups. Hasn't done anything yet, but to be honest I didn't have my hopes too high :)
When I last checked the ZHP's oil, it was a little on the low side. Instead of adding oil, I figured what the heck, I'll throw in a little of the marvel stuff that's sitting on the shelf. Didn't expect anything to come of if, but I had it so why not. Well, 50 miles in, no change. 100 miles, still no change. 150 miles though, lifter tick was significantly decreased. Like really close to gone. Shortly after that is the confusing part. The 4k dip went away. Now the only time that's happened is when the adaptations have been reset. I'm not sure why they would have reset though. I didn't reset them, didn't disconnect the battery, nothing. And I don't have any reason to believe a little oil additive would cause them to reset, but I don't have any reason to believe it actually fixed the dip either. So who knows. I highly suspect it'll be back very soon, but at least I'm pretty psyched about the lifter tick deal. I hope it actually cleaned something, but maybe it was just the change in viscosity. Although I only added an eighth of a quart maybe, so not sure how much that would change it. Either way, the car sounds so much better idling.
Not endorsing that you do this yourself; I honestly don't know much about this stuff. But this is just what I observed using it :thumbsup
