e46 m rust in coolant

I have a friend who is looking at buying an e46m but the whole reason the current owner is selling is that he keeps finding rust in the coolant. I wanted to check with you guys to confirm, but the only thing that I know of that is iron in that motor are the cylinder sleeves. Is there somewhere that im missing that this could be coming from?

This raises more questions, but how does the owner know it is rust? Is it rust coloring? That could be bigger issues than he wants to hear.

If he still moves forward, make sure to get a PPI and pressure test each cylinder.

Current owner is prospective owners brother, which makes it more bad business. I talked to the current owner and he said that every time they've done a coolant flush there has been rust in the coolant.
