Ok, not quite a ZHP, but it'd make an interesting vehicle.

So I was watching an episode of Fifth Gear (Top Gear's awkward cousin) from the early 2000s, and they did an episode about security vehicles, and the one they used in the show was an E46. So I went looking!

BMW builds these at their factory; they're not made by 3rd party companies. Looks like you can buy current model vehicles as well as CPO here:
http://www.bmw.com/com/en/general/corporate_direct_sales/security_vehicles/overview.html

And I found one for sale currently in the UK:

Only $40k!

Anybody else heard of these or seen one?

Debadged? (Maybe the model...?)

Back in the day, my buddy had a 7 series security vehicle. It was so nice to drive, super quiet inside... :) I think its a little bit silly on a 3 series, but I'd definitely drive a fully loaded out land yacht 750Li... :rofl

If anything, it's less silly. It's more agile and easier to perform evasive maneuvers in...
Doubt it has the explosion protection though.

For that you need the Range Rover Sentinel. It can withstand 15 KGs of TNT and 7.62mm armor piercing rounds without compromising any of the luxury aspects.

What was his purpose for having one?

It was cool. He didn't need it, but he wanted it.
