Just paint it guys.....its an embossed aluminum cover epoxied to plastic. Takes paint perfectly, even after being scratched, and hides all the scratches. I redid my doors and they are indistinguishable from the factory finish.

Really? Ive seen threads on how to fix the scratches from years of use and wanted to do it this summer.

I have 2 sets of black, so I figured why not [emoji57]

Mine was scratched bad from 10 years worth of jewelry wear. Took the door apart, removed the armrest leather, taped off the hard plastic, cleaned it with some isopropyl alcohol, and painted it with some SEM interior trim paint, in my case black. Here is the result:

Looks as good as new.....

*Sigh* and yet ANOTHER project I'll be tackling before the summer comes lol, that looks amazing. Maybe I can do it both sets of mine and maybe get a nice Silver Cubed Set out of the small investment [emoji1417]

Thanks for sharing lol, did you have to even have to sand it at all? Ive seen people use like 1400 Grit sand paper & THAT is what scares me lol

Wasn't intending to threadcrap you RC, painting them would save you some expensive shipping costs....

Painted trim is definitely not indistinguishable from brand new trim. There is a quality difference. When the trim is painted, you can feel the difference with your fingers, and the cubes don't pop as well.

It looks great from a couple of feet away, but up close it's noticeable when compared to new trim side by side.

To most, it looks just fine and is definitely a quick way to make trim look much better. I did this with the silver set I have and it looks just fine, though the quality of the cubes lacks a little.

it looks good in pics but what about in person? Also how well will it hold up to wear? And what about feel?

Looks fine to me, the quality of the paint makes a difference, and SEM trim paint is used OE by dealers and interior shops. BP has some valid concerns, but I believe paint quality is important in looks, feel, and wear. The other thing to remember is that BMW used paint as well on the originals.....

When I get home this afternoon I will take a couple comparison pics close-up.....

I am familiar with SEM and used it on my E30 when I shadowlined my trim. Great stuff.

Yes, but what's important to note is that a second layer of paint over an existing layer reduces the quality. Most things come out best when painted for the first time; after that, it's easy to lose clarity.

With that said, if you're not a perfectionist, painting it is a perfectly valid way to refresh your trim and have it look great.

Some examples of my painted silver cube. My interior has gone through various stages so excuse the different seats/door cards:

If you don't hear anything from anyone for a while, my sis might want to trade her black cube trim. I have to talk to her but she's very busy so knowing her it'll take forever. I think the silver cube trim would be a nice accent since her car is black exterior, black interior with black cube trim.

It would be. I made this comment the other night, that black over black with silver would be fine, or white over black would be fine. I just don't like the red on black with the silver. I like the silver trim, but just not with my combination.

Yeah, I definitely can see that with NB. I'll talk to my sis. I also have to go back and take a look at the condition of her interior and make sure it's worth trading.

Come on guys... Back when I was looking to swap there were zero opportunities to do this because nobody would let go of their silver set. Someone's got to want this!

To be fair, I'm picky and looking for a set that is in close to perfect shape. Had a couple offers to trade but weren't quite up to snuff.

May work out better to sell your set and buy a new set of black.
