Hi All

Something weird happens to my car. While driving the car to optimum engine temperature, the RPM dips up and down very noticeably but once the engine is warmed up, (gauge needle hits the mid point) it disappears.

I contacted my mechanic and he told me to might be the vanos seals.

Anyone else experience this before? Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I have not but am interested in what other people say.

Any codes? Early e46s did suffer from vanos seals cold engine symptoms. It could also be CCV, failing electrical t-stat (incorrect reading), vacuum leak.

Dirty idle control valve?

Could be. Pull it and clean with carb cleaner along with throttle body. Check (and rebuild?) DISA while you're in there.
