Have you guys driven them?
They look pretty I think (stole that pic from an F10 forum). Are they a bigger heavier version of a ZHP?
And all these numbers? 530,535, 550, 6, 8 4 cylinders with turbos. Kinda confusing no?

Have not driven one yet but if they drive nicely I'll own one in a few years. I think they are great looking cars. Would most certainly be bigger/heavier than the ZHP

Try 600-900 pounds heavier than a ZHP...
They're over 4000 pounds.

528i's aren't popular here, probably because they're underpowered for such a large vehicle. Let's not forget that every fawking BMW here is AWD, which adds a ton of weight, so the underpowered nature of the 528i just doesn't cut it. They're mostly 535i's around these parts, which have plenty of juice.
I hate the fact that if I ever have to buy a newer BMW (non-M), I won't be able to buy one locally because no dealer stocks RWD ones here anymore... :(

I had a 320i (170 hp turbo 4) as a loaner last year when my passenger airbag was being replaced under recall. It had shockingly good acceleration around town, and the 8-speed auto in current BMWs is superb (for a slush box). I'm quite sure it would have quickly run out of grunt at higher revs, but for a badge whore wanting to run around and be seen in a BMW and get groceries, it was fine. That said, those aren't the reasons I (or probably most anyone else here) loves the marque. The new 340i is supposed to be a much better car, with numb steering and handling complaints allegedly addressed. But the steering is still electric and still number than a classic hydraulic setup. Nice cars, but they'v come a long way since the E46 days, good in some ways, not so good in others.

Whew. A 2.8L 4-cylinder? That is a tall four-banger.
Would not want to be pushing around a 5-series with one though.. strange decision-making there.
Had I the time or money or know-how I'd want to stuff that FI 2.8 into an old E36 318 for shits & giggles. I bet something like that would get up & go, lol.

Oh. I saw "528" and assumed the 28 was engine size. Ugh. More confusion!

Those model designations have little to do with actual engine size anymore. Even back to the E39, the 540i is actually a 4.4L V8. They're all just relative to one another for power/torque output i.e. 320i has less power than the 328i, etc, although some model numbers do match the volume of the engine inside.

Learned something new. Makes sense, since the F30 wasn't released 'till 2012 and the F10 existed before that.

If you want a ZHP like car your best choice is a 2 series most likely. and if you want 4 doors, well I just read a rumor that in a few years BMW will finally release a 4 door, RWD 2 series GranCoupe. Thats what I would love to have.

+1 was just reading about a possible M2 gran coupe, I would definitely consider buying that...

Agreed. I'd love to see what one of those 2 Series GranCoupes will look like, but they've been rumored for years so I'm not getting my hopes up that they'll be official anytime soon.

Edited my typo in the original post to correctly point out that we are talking about the 5 series car.

Yes, if you look at 2010-2011, the cars have 6 cylinders.
The turbos started coming in in 2012 according to the wiki.
Still confused a bit.

We had a 535 loaner for a few days... we hated it. We couldn't wait to get out of it. I never thought I'd say that about a BMW but that car was a big boring sedan, not really any different than the plethora of average boring sedans available these days

Dang, that's not good. Thanks for the feedback! Plus finding one with 6 speed might be a challenge.

BMW is driving me nuts with this Gran Coupe bs. A couple months ago i saw what i thought was a 3 series then i look closer and i see "428" and thought my eyes were lying to me, then i went to BMW's website and saw it was a Gran Coupe. Da fuq is that about when you already have the 3 series? Almost daily i become less and less interested in ever buying a new BMW.

I think it's the way ebay formats the listings - limits the default view to the first 12 images, then you have to dig to find more

It's just finding every single niche market they can enter. The Gran Coupe has a hatch trunk i.e. it's not closed to the interior like a traditional trunk. I agree with you though, it's kind of batshit nutty the amount of permutations they have.
Then again, I'd take the 4 series Gran Coupe over the 3 series Gran Turismo because god damn is the latter ugly.

Quoted for truth. The 4GC is the sexiest looking car out of the whole 3/4 series lineup, IMO.
