A few pics from last weekend's Colorado National Tour. I drove pretty well on Sat. but then completely sucked on Sun. and ended up in second for my first national trophy spot. So nothing to cry about, but just didn't drive up to the car's potential so that was frustrating. Overall I placed 30th in pax out of 140 drivers and considering the talent there it was not bad.

Awesome man, congrats.

Any videos or action pictures?

Here's a video of a run where I was trying to be clean so staying off the cones a bit, so a bit wider line than I would normally like to take but you can get a feel for the course.

and here's a run where I completely cook the first corner, hosing my run but there's a pretty good 'catch' about 1/2 way through.

Just now got around to catching up on this thread:
a) You d' man for taking on some serious mods as DIYs!
b) I hate you for showing me what I could likely be running against in STX when I get myself back into SCCA Solo, & for doing so in my car's (near) twin!!
c) My wife'll hate you for making me want to match your car mod-for-mod!

In all seriousness, though, congrats on the quick progress & getting yourself so successfully competitive! Eagerly looking forward to more updates!

Event results for 9th RM Solo SCCA race of the year:
1st in STX out of 7 drivers
14th in raw time
4th overall in Pax out of 124 drivers which ended up being my highest finish of the year so I was pretty damn stoked by that.

A crappy cell pic:

More than happy to talk classing and share my thoughts (I have some on that topic at the very beginning of this thread too). If you're going to get serious (and by serious I mean start putting money into mods) it's probably worth thinking about what classes you want to drive in first. If you're like me I try it out and have a great time with no expectations, but then my competitive side kicks in and I want to compete, which requires having a car that's not in a class in which it can't be competitive. This is true for time trials through NASA, SCCA, or autocrossing with BMW CCA, SCCA, etc. One wrong mod will place you into a class where you can't compete. If you don't set it up right to begin with it's a lot of time and money to replace things in order to fit into the class that you can be competitive in.

That said, maybe you're not like me and can have fun going out and not worrying about winning, in which case, mod on, drive fast and enjoy.

Either way, I'm always happy to chat

Lol I am extremely competitive :). My first auto x the other day I was just competing against myself trying to beat my own times each time I went out, which I succeeded and was happy. I completely hear you on the right car for the class which is why the ///M will probably be dedicated track build/hill climb and I am thinking about picking up a zhp and I can use that for some auto x action when I can't afford to shell out track days :)

Found out the owner of my current garage spot needs it back so I'm forced to move. Not wanting to move my garage spot again anytime soon I picked up a new home for all my tools, parts, trailer, car, and possibly down the road a car lift....

It's not huge, but should be big enough to do the trick.

So went to the SCCA National Solo Championships in Lincoln, NE last week to try my hand at running with the really fast guys...and...pretty much got crushed.

Day 1, had a hard time getting clean on the course and had to stand on my first run which is never even close to my fastest. Some guys can come out and run their fastest times on run one, but I don't have that skill. Run two I dropped over a second but nipped the last cone on the course and run 3 couldn't keep the car under me and lost the back end into a cone. The one that set me back:
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-3gqS-vj1nus/UE6VFyPJ98I/AAAAAAAA3mU/MjFhfJWJuBw/s800/429935_10151155216004201_714095200_n%255B1%255D.jp g

Day two, I just couldn't keep the back end of the car under control and was just catching it all three run. Almost missed my first run because i got there late so that was a throw away, and just couldn't find time on the other two, finishing well over a second off what the car could do.

So the result was a 40 place finish out of 50 drivers. Very frustrating outcome, but leaves a lot of room to improve next year :)

Is that a garage complex that allows wrenching? Or a storage complex?

For many years i was on the hunt for an arrangement like that but literally everything around here expressly forbade any automotive mechanical work in their lease agreements - even industrial spaces for rent and the like.

It's a storage condo and is technically commercial property so I can do whatever in it I would like. There are many car owners in the facility and everyone works on their cars or run small businesses out of there. Most storage places I found didn't have electric, but I can put a gas heater, 220, mobile lifts, whatever in this one.

Next to last race of the season last Saturday. Came in 1st in class and 5th in pax out of 123 drivers. Tires are starting to get down there so back to the debate on what to run next year. still unclear if the 265 direzza is a better choice than the 255 kooks after driving on both.

17" x 9"

M0nk3y
10-01-2012, 06:30 PM
Can you not fit 265 kooks?

IMO - Kooks take some time to heat up. For a normal solo day, they will trump.

Nationals event, you better hope it's 100+ degrees for the kooks to dominate. IMO I think the star specs are the better choice in a national sense.

bcleaver
10-01-2012, 06:38 PM
they don't make a 17x265 kook or I would probably be running those. I'm not a big fan of the soft sidewall on the kooks, they just feel a little sloppy in turn-in compared to the dunlops but they do seem to grip a bit better. Always a tradeoff.

From driving on both tires, the Kooks certainly need a higher slip angle in order to achieve maximum grip. I tried driving on Star Specs and wasn't prepared for them, I over drove the tires.

Alot of my shots have a TON of rollover (even though it's the right amount), and it's always a border to max grip and oversteer/sliding (I also have shots of where I'm at max grip, and the next shot is the rear end stepping out). Although that's how I have my car set-up and like it that way...some people prefer the specs.

Just had the last race of the 'summer' last weekend so figured I'd post a racing year review.

Changes made during this season:
Racetech Seats
AFE intake
Oil filter housing gasket
Oil pan baffle and lock-nut
D-force wheels and RS3 tires
Motor mounts
Tranny Mounts

Results:
BMW CCA: Finished 1st in AS out of 11 qualifying drivers. Finished 10th overall out of 43 qualifying drivers.
SCCA Colorado : Finished 1st in STX out of 4 qualifying drivers. Finished 9th overall out of 90 qualifying drivers.
SCCA Nationals: Finished 2nd in the Colorado National Tour. Finished 39th out of 49 drivers (ugh)

In the last race of the year I came in second overall behind a multi-time national champ so that was a nice end to the year.

Things in store next year:
SSK
Possibly custom headers/tune
New rotors and brakes

Anyone out there interested in purchasing custom headers with high flow cats built in? Advantages for those of us running in stx would be improved ability to tune but still retain stock catalytic converter location. Benefits for others with less specific needs would be the ability to retain emissions legal cats but also be able to tune and increase HP. There are 4 folks I know interested and the fab shop is looking for 10 individuals before they commit. Not sure on pricing yet, but just curious if there is any interest at all.

Unfortunately California is a little more strict

(5) The aftermarket California catalytic converter must be installed in the same location as the OEM California catalytic converter it is designed to replace. The front face of the replacement California catalytic converter shall be no more than 3 inches further upstream or downstream in the exhaust from where the front face of the OEM California catalytic converter was located. The installation may not alter the location, position, or orientation of oxygen (O2) sensors upstream and downstream of the California catalytic converter

I'm inquiring about some price information and will get back to you guys.

Derbo, to answer your question about the location, while I'm not 100% sure where they will be located, having looked at the stock headers and knowing the rules, even to get within 6" would mean pretty much keeping them in the stock location so I would expect them to meet CA emissions rules.

So no info back from the shop on the cats yet, but I'll relay when I hear something. In the meantime I did a little preventative cooling system overhaul today that included lower radiator hose and sensor, upper radiator hose, thermostat and radiator. Snapped a couple pics not really worth sharing since it pretty much just shows a standard engine bay with a few parts missing, but I'll share them anyway. I'd rate the project about a 4/10 in difficulty as everything came apart pretty simply.

The offseason sucks. So much waiting.

Interested to see what the ZIIs do in hot weather (like RS3 temperatures). If they can still be good in wet while not greasing over in the heat they will be a deadly tire.

As well, interested in the Rivals. The "testing" that BFG did wasn't really a comprehensive test and IMO alot of people are coming into the season with false impressions.

However, he didn't compare them to the zIIs yet just the old z1s. Tire wars are getting hot this year.

Just got back from a full day of testing and tuning. SCR performance put on a test and tune day for some of the racers that they sponsor which meant a full day of dusting off the cobwebs, testing settings and trying new tires. There were only a handful of cars there so we got a ton of seat time, some great coaching and car setup help.

After a few laps and warming up a little they handled exceptionally. The sidewall and slip angle feel very similar to the ZIs, which I personally preferred over the RS3s. We never got them really 'hot' so I can't speak to their performance when very warm, but I will say their cold performance was obviously superior to the RS3, and even better than the Z1. At no point did they get greasy. When pushed really hard they seemed to dig in and avoided over aggressive understeer very well. I haven't tried out the rivals, but if you liked the Z1s, these things are a fantastic replacement and the best street tire I've driven to date.

Do the ZIIs have a linear break-away point when you reach/exceed max grip....and as well, can they recover easily after losing grip?

bcleaver
03-04-2013, 05:48 PM
Kyle, I would say yes on both accounts. They have a nice 'wide' edge that you can get near, go over and come back from with just throttle modulation. My opinion of the RS3 was that the edge was much narrower than the Z1s in that once they lost grip they would kind of 'go' and didn't provide as much audible feedback. The Z11s seemed to be as linear if not more so than the prior version where you can increasingly push up to the edge and slowly get there and know you're doing so.

Keep in mind that I hadn't driven since last season so my memory may be crap, but that's how I recall the other tires behaving.

Been gone for a little while, but back in action now. We went to Europe for a few weeks and I got a chance to go drive the nurburgring. Rented a track prepped BRZ through rent4ring. Would recommend them. The experience was awesome. I'll post some pics when I get a chance.

Back to local autocross news, had our first races this weekend, no pics or video yet, but finished 2nd at the SCCA event on saturday and 3rd at the BMW CCA event. I'm running in a class that my car isn't really prepped for in the BMW event and lost to two guys co-driving a very light prepped M3, so can't complain too much.

Got some new brakes ready to put on, but otherwise no mods thus far this year. Pics, video and results to come.

Super composed and neutral. Nice turn in and a good overall response. A bit underpowered. All good things for a novice driving on the ring. The car was also gutted, caged, on pretty decent tires and a full suspension setup so it wasn't exactly stock. It's in the same SCCA class as the ZHP and I have to say I'm a bit concerned about how fast I think it can be.

I actually find it very helpful when you need someone to move out of your way or out of your spot in paddock. Screeeeeeech

Getting some DTC 70s for a track day this weekend which I anticipate will be even more vocal

I have to say that the bite of the HP+ is sooo much better than the stock pad I was running. It's a much bigger difference than I was expecting and I'm very happy with the upgrade.

Yea, they let people know what's going on around them. I always drag my brakes to warm them and everyone is aware there is a car coming down from Grid.

The bite is incredible. Alot of people says cold bite suffers but I beg to differ. Threshold braking is a lot easier. I still need to get some track pads. Might run another weekend with HP+s

Nice, I've never run that pad. It would be interesting to compare. I love the HP+ for autox and am going with the DTC 60s for the track so I don't have to swap out rotors when going back and forth. Sticking with the same pad brand between applications should work well on the same rotor, while switching brands can cause issues with the rotor/pad not bedding well and subsequently not working--or so I've read.

Yea, different manufactures will have different compounds on the rotor and you'll suffer from braking performance.

Let me know how those DTC 60s work out with the HP+s on the rotors...I might dive for some for my July HPDE.

Shifting over to the DTCs worked great. They obviously take a little longer to warm up, but once they're hot and have bite it just doesn't go away and keeps getting better as they heat up. I'll provide some additional thoughts after switching back to the hp+ to see how that goes and if there was any impact on their performance by running the DTC 60s.

Had a big maintenance weekend. Replaced some broken underparts on the car (plastic air vents, fender liner, etc.) Put in new diff fluid. Replaced fuel pump and swapped the HP+ back in for the DTC 60s for a big memorial day weekend race out in Lincoln, NE.

Been a long time since I updated. Over mem day weekend we hauled over to Lincoln, NE for a four day race. The first two days were a pro solo which is basically a normal autocross except instead of the start happening when you cross the light beam, the timer starts when a drag-strip type start light tree turns green. You also have to run two courses that are a mirror image of one another, and launch against a competitor. It's pretty frantic and adds a lot more to think about in addition to driving. You also end up running 12 total runs, six on each side and with the fastest run on each side getting added together to determine the winner.

Day 1 I had a few good runs and ended up sitting mid-pack. Most people had about the same times on both courses, and I was a second off my fastest time on one course so just couldn't quite figure out the other side. By cleaning that up I could certainly improve my overall standings. The next day I awoke ready to shave some time and found it just a bit damp outside:
https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-NUe1c-15FEI/Ua_oTP4yL4I/AAAAAAABCG0/0BZ6CSsYWp4/s800/IMG_20130525_090301_423.jpg

Needless to say no one dropped any time on day two and I stood on my first day runs. Overall it was about where I expected to land, and was generally happy given the stiff competition. On a cool note, the co-driver of Matt's ZHP ended up in 4th place and in the trophies, showing that a well prepped and well driven e46 can indeed be competitive.

The next two days were for the Championship Tour, which was basically a normal autocross spread out over two day and two different courses, with the fastest combined times from each day determining the winner. We had the biggest class of the entire event with 27 drivers overall. Holy crap were there a lot of FRS/BRZs there (also referred to as the 'twins'). They were extremely competitive, and I didn't see a fully prepped one out there, with a FRS taking first place by a very healthy margin.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-JlXZLUz1pbI/Ua_oV3Z9DPI/AAAAAAABCHY/cfb7wBbjnvo/s800/IMG_20130526_160159_725.jpg

Day one I laid down a solid first run, shaved off some great time second run and then put down a flyer on my third run that would have placed me solidly in the trophies and around 6th place overall. I pulled back into grid to check out my time and see I've got a cone on my last and best run, dropping me back several spots. I would have been more bummed, but was too happy knowing that I was starting to figure the car out more and it appeared I potentially had it in me to be closer to the top than to the bottom, something I've not been able to do in Lincoln before

Day two started out extremely wet, but dried by the time we ran in the afternoon. I pretty much had the exact same experience as day 1. Solid first run, shaved some time second run, shaved a bit more on run three, but caught a cone (this time the first one on the course..what an ass). Overall this put me in 13th spot. Not stoked by the performance, but also a better showing than I've had before, and a few near cone misses from being somewhat competitive. The other ZHP also finished in 3rd place overall which was awesome.

Returned to CO and raced in a BMW event the next weekend and came in 5th overall finishing just behind a few nationally competitive guys, so feels like the driver and car are starting to come together.

As an aside I noticed very minimal decrease in overall bite when switching back from the DTCs to the HP+ on the same rotors, so for guys that are interested in that kind of track/autox/street combo without wanting to switch rotors every time, that's a good solution.

Next on order, some BFG rivals. Well enough of a novel for now. Until next time.

Had the Colorado Match Tour last weekend and things went moderately well. STX barely had a class, but just enough that if I could win the Sat. autox I could win 2 BFG Rivals. It was my first day on the rivals and I spent Friday morning at the test and tune scrubbing them in and getting a feel for the grip. I like the stiff sidewall and they feel pretty damn grippy. It had been a while since I'd run on the zIIs, so my memory about which one I prefer totally sucks, but that's why I'm getting some new ZIIs mounted so I can do some real comparisons. All in all they felt great were very predictable and seem to wear incredibly well. Not sure yet if they justify the price difference vs. the dunlops, but if you can win some with contingency, then def. worth it.

The race Sat. went ok. I was very consistent, but not as fast as I would like to have driven. The course was very technical and didn't allow for any mistakes, of which I made many. I ended up winning the class though and you can't ever complain about that.

Sun didn't go quite as well as I ended up in the top 32 drivers (just barely) and got beat in the first round by the 17th fastest driver from the prior day. So it was a long day of working and standing around for two pretty poorly driven runs.

Overall though the event was really well run and a very fun format. If a match tour comes near you I suggest checking it out. Enough rambling...on to pics:

Heyooo, I am alive, but haven't been trolling the forums lately. Seems like after every race season I just need to step away for a few months, do some skiing and not think about spring rates, tire compounds, ride height and compression settings. But then every spring it's time to drive again. Last year ended pretty flat as I got my ass kicked at nationals (again). I did manage to pull out a class win with the BMW autocross group in AS, but not driving well at the big event is always frustrating.

I'm not sure the 330 is going to be a competitive car this year in STX given the addition of the 'twins' (BRZ/FRS) to the class, so likely will not be competing at a national level this year and instead doing more track and less autox.

On that note, I'm heading to HPR for an open lapping session tomorrow to dust off the cobwebs and row through some gears.

As a follow-up on tires here's my take: I was never fastest on the rivals. Don't know if it's my driving style, how little confidence I had with them on the edge or something else entirely, but they never felt the most confident and were never the fastest. I preferred the star specs all year and was much faster in some decently set up head to head testing on the nationals test course so ended up running them at nats. Ironically, after all the talk about which of those two tires was fastest the quickest car at nationals ended up on Toyos. Go figure.

For this year I have a few small things in the works: new shifter, recovered wheel, tune. Otherwise, just getting out and driving.

Here's a pic from nats that I though particularly cool:

Wow, just read through the whole thing. Impressive work all around, and I'm particularly wow'd by the subframe work early on. I just spent the weekend installing shocks on my car; every project seems to take three times what it should…

I'm a track day enthusiast, not an autocrosser; I can't quite believe that the autox guys can come out and lay down fast, consistent times right out of the box on a new course. I don't have the patience (or the skill!).

I came back to the BMW fold after a brief dalliance with a BRZ. I had one of the first ones in MA, did a few track events (including the BMWCCA club race school at NJMP last June) but was kind of underwhelmed. It's a decent value, but could use more power, and -- for me, at least -- it wasn't this amazing beast on the track right off the bat: I was burning up ZIIs for lack of camber. I have no doubt I'll need to mod the ZHP to really be happy with it, but so many things on the E46 are solved problems, whereas "the twins" are a bit too new. Just look at all the howtos here and on Youtube!

I look forward to seeing more, Cleave!

PS - Why aren't coming out to join the cool kids at Toledo Pro? Forget that it is probably a 10+ hr drive for you :P

bcleaver

Two things on that: 1. as I understand it the armrest was an option so replacing it with another option isn't removing trim, it's changing to a different option and 2. I'm not really running scca stx this year (maybe a local scca event or two) at a national level. I'm (slowly) moving the car into a NASA TT car and ultimately into a GTS2 or 3 car and the autox class I'm technically running in is BMW CCA AS which means I could pull the back seat, put in a supercharger and still be in the same class.

Any particular reason why? Do your ASTs need rebuilt?

I don't have direct experience, but Andrew Pallotta in his old FRS ran KW V3s and loved the dampers. He said they could deal with low speed compression very well and the damper was probably the best on the market for the FRS.

They don't need a rebuild, just don't love the amount of front travel on them given the amount I had to pre-load to get them at a good ride-height and was kicking around the idea of something else. Have heard anecdotes of success with the clubsports and was hoping to talk to someone with actual experience.

Had the Colorado Match Tour last weekend. Pretty awesome event. The format is confusing as hell at first glance but once you run through it once it ends up being pretty cool. The first part of the event is a standard 4 run autocross. I ended up finishing 5th in STX, .03 out of the trophies. Sunday is a last chance qualifier for those that didn't make the top 8 in each heat ( I ended up 10th). It starts with 2 runs to get into the top 16, then 1 run to get into the top 10 and then one more run for the top 5.

Both the wife and I made it into the top five along with the other 16 people from the other two heats. It then goes into a bracket style run-off with the first matchup of two runs and then single run elimination matchups after that. Once in the bracket your pax (equalizing time) is your own fastest run. So basically the bracket is about consistency, where you want to get a little faster each run but not too fast or it's unlikely you'll be able to match it again and lose your next matchup.

The wife had a great first run but improved too much and wasn't able to match her best time the next round and barely lost. I ended up staying pretty consistent and clean and winning the whole club shootout bracket. Total blast going head to head with folks and fun pulling out the W even if it was the consolation round.

But really, I wouldn't go into that class unless you want to spend big bucks and have a not very streetable car.

The transition is interesting. Some things, like looking ahead, finding (and knowing) the limit, quick corrections/catches and late apexes come very easily because of the autox experience. Other things though, like patience on turn in, not getting to the throttle too quickly and smooth braking has been more challenging.
My biggest problem is I'm so used to getting in and out of a turn very quickly so have really developed a rhythm that is brake, turn, quick unwind, and throttle in fast order during autox runs. For long turns at the track though I'm going to throttle waaay too soon and no having mid-corner patience. So then I realize I've gone to throttle too soon, and lift off but by that point have unweighted the front tires and miss my apex. So it's a weird throttle blip where my subconscious is telling me I should be on the throttle, when really I need to be breathing for a second, completing the turn and then squeezing back on.

As far as upgrades...I'm still working on the plan.

derbo
08-21-2014, 09:46 PM
I expected the transition would be similar to that. When I watch your videos I notice how fast the turns come up and I thought it would be interesting to transition to Auto-X and feel like I'm too slow doing everything.

Patience is hard but I'm sure you will get it down pretty quickly. Can't wait to see whats in store for your project! :)

bcleaver
01-01-2015, 01:41 PM
The e36 TMS shorty headers will bolt directly up to the Y-pipe and that connects to the rest of this setup. The Bimmerworld Magnaflow system is the one required for spec e46 so it's relatively cheap and bolts up nicely out of the box--at least that's the plan. This will remove cats for more powa, and give me the option of either straight pipe or mid-section resonator to keep sound down.

If it's the same exhaust setup then you should be able to mate any e36 headers up to it using the optional y-pipe.

I actually tried hard to keep the door cards in place. Weight isn't a concern form me in the class I'm running in and am actually trying to keep the front as stock looking as possible. So ideally it's a very clean, very stock looking front when it's all put back together. The rear of the car will be completely stripped however, including door cards, etc.

That an STX rule?

You can run a LTW battery, but I can't run something as small as a Shorai because these new-Gen cars have such a high electrical demand. That, and the fact that these cars now have charging maps that will charge and float the battery based on a user inputted AH and CCA rating. Unfortunately you're limited to preselected 5 maps or so. Anything smaller than the lowest map and you'll essentially destroy the battery in no time.

I'm planning on going Braille 15 lb LTW battery. Same location as OE. I'll shed about 40 lbs there so I can't really complain. I'm just jealous that an E36 I know runs a 1 lb Shorai

Interesting, that's a bummer. The one I have is super light, but I think more than 1lb. Either way, saving 40lbs is nothing to scoff at.

Here's the final install:

Picture heavy update coming in hot:

finally got her out for a shakedown last weekend after what felt like a very long winter. Car felt absolutely amazing--super tight and surprisingly well sorted for how many changes were made during hibernation. I didn't run data, so don't know how much faster it is now, but my butt dyno said pretty damn fast. A few more details to sort out, but for the most part it's ready to start racing for the season.

I wish my current coilover set was a 2.25ID. I'm using a 2.5ID so it means I need to either get new perches (if they make it) or convert to 2.25ID.. :X

Had the first race of the season. Got second on both days by a combined less than 1 tenth of a second, so kind of frustrating, but the car was great and had a good time. No action shots yet, but a few pics of the car in it's 'final' form:

Wow, realized I haven't updated anything pretty much all season. Quick re-cap: ended up losing the first races of the season by a tiny amount, but after making a large number of small tweaks to the car ended up creating some pretty good separation between myself and the competition by the end of the year, winning the last 5 races, and the last two by a pretty considerable amount.
This left me with two track records and a bunch of free hoosiers, so a pretty awesome outcome.
Over the year I did a few additional upgrades to the car: traqdash acquisition system, coolsuit install, window nets (log booked racecar now), and lots of other little things.

A few obligatory pics from the year:

Those are d-force wheels. Super lightweight and pretty damn cheap. Good offset (don't recall exact number) but you can fit a 245 in there without much fender work and 265 with a bit more.

Not sure what the diff was...something pretty sturdy, it was built for the chihuahua rally down in Mexico where it ran earlier in the year. Made it through that and a few enduros before finally giving up hope.

A few mid-season updates:

one 'big' change to the car this year so far:
26274
Those suckers make a huge difference in pedal feel, and consistency of braking. It's something, had I known the difference, I would have done a long time ago.

Otherwise, I haven't been tinkering too much this year and just driving. The car in NASA classing got an * (asterisk) this last year, which unfortunately means a 7 point penalty. The NASA classing folks were not so helpful when inquiring as to why this car was allotted those extra points this year after being unchanged for the prior decade. The timing was just unfortunate as I had less than a full season running a fully prepped car in TTD. So I could have either added weight and stayed in the class I was running last year (TTD) or do nothing to the car and jump up a class (TTC) but not be all that competitive. Since the rules are changing again next year, I decided to not spend a bunch of money on the car until I see the new rule set and just run mid-pack. I tend to be pretty competitive so that's been frustrating, but I can't justify building a TTC car to only have the rules change again in less than a year. Regardless, I've been out there burning up tires and gas and learning a ton about the car, dropping time pretty much every weekend.

Did a trip out to Hallett in OK and had a blast. If you get a chance to run that track I wouldn't pass it up

Sorry for crap slow reply. They actually wear really well so far. It's a big aggressive brake, but not much worse than stock so far. Would have done this upgrade years ago if I knew how damn good they were.

Year ended up pretty good. I got beat by a very fast, very light S2000 when he showed up, but otherwise won out, winning the NASA Rocky Mountain TTC class for the season.

Pics from the last race of the year with a few additional mods if you can spot them

Yea, I won't lie, I had serious moments of doubt as I was pulling out the headliner, a-pillar trim, b pillar trim and other things that I deemed 'irreversible'. On the other hand it makes for a pretty amazing track monster with all that weight out and the stiffness of a cage. Whole different animal.

Long time, no post. Funny to read back through some of the build threads and see how these cars have changed and grown over time. I just met up with another ZHP out in Utah being built for TT5 while racing, and it seems to be a pretty competitive platform for this class if anyone is interested in knowing more.
