They were having problems sourcing materials they said. But I have heard that they are notorious for taking forever with their orders. Better to order it from somewhere like Turner that has them in stock. I ordered directly from UUC and learned the hard way.

I have no idea. I've yet to really figure out what all the software can do. I wouldn't (even if I could) load shark or dinan SW on it. I'd rather pay those guys for developing it.
I looked around at my car's car/key memory settings. Looks like enabling/disabling features is a breeze in SSS/Progman.
http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/2743/carkey.jpg

It can also be used for enabling retrofits or modules, like LED lights, or alarm systems.
Last, but not least, updating the DME, which you can see in the screenshot in my post (#530) above. :)

Sweet!

My car didn't come with the OBC headlight stalk that allows me to check outside temp and MPG. I was going to upgrade the module with a used one and try to get the stealer to activate it.

It sounds like this would activate the module...

See my thread. I'm doing all of this through Bootcamp.
http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?1808-How-to-set-up-a-BMW-Diagnostic-Computer

But if you really want to get a PC for it, an IBM T30 is probably the cheapest, capable machine. Have at least 2GB RAM installed, and an 80gb HDD.

If you got boot camp to successfully communicate, I am all set, may be getting a T30 for all of us to share, mailing around...

Yeah, idk, I always liked having a NAV in my car. I am against putting a dash mounted one in my car, I use maps instead. But I like how OE it looks, plus the combination of NAV, BT, iPod, backup camera (I wont install, but still cool) etc

Idk if you remember, but I had posted a thread on BF.C last year, about the issue...
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1552486

Anyway, now it's confirmed it is in fact the clutch. It slips noticeably between 3k and 4k. Went out with a friend of mine today who has an E30 and is a tech, he said it was. My dad saw it tonight, we went for a spin, he was quite surprised as he knows how I drive it. The thing that bugs me the most, is that I baby the car. Never any hard shifts, always rev-match etc. And I have owned it since 27k miles. Can the previous owners abuse be showing now? Or could this maybe have been a bad part from BMW?

I think the PO is plausible. It doesn't take much to kill a clutch if it was abused- and you can do a lot of abusing over 30k miles.

Yes!! I have decided to do something I've never done. I bought a cheap, but new, pump on carparts.com. (through zhpm) and reservoir and they are on the way. I spent 103 on the pump and 15 on the new reservoir instead of 550 on pump and 150 on reservoir. Both have a year warranty. I could buy them 5 times for the price of oem. I bet I get 4 years or more out of them though.... The reason I chose to try this is that this part is not a necessity. If it goes out, I can still steer. I just lose the power part of the steering. I am driving the car 700 miles this weekend without power steering. If it was something like a water pump, then i would never dream of trying this.

Orderd the Powerflex FCAB yesterday. I have all the symptoms described in those FCAB videos. And after watching them it doesn't look very difficult to replace them. Actually it looks almost as simple as changing oil. So I will attempt to do that next weekend. Question is do I need to buy the jaw puller?

With a big smile on my face. I had a huge toe in issue, that almost doomed the tires from the get go. Got the toe in fixed, and drove about another 10k.

Hmmm. I think I might buy em.

When I bought my car it had no name LEDs as well, but they looked barely lit when they were. So I went with OE. Then I wanted to go LED again, but all of them now are sooo bright, it throws the look of the car off.

Shitty day. Sarted bad ended bad. I left at 330, hit the gym. then hit the organic grocery store, where they had Sushi grade tuna. Perfect. Bought a few tall sapporros, some saki, edamame, and i am starting to feel much better now. I will try to post again when I have my sashimi pieces all cut and laid out. Here is a preview.

Then sprinkle on a couple sesame seeds and pan sear the Ahi for about 10-15 seconds each side. Put that on a plate with some steamed bok choi, carrots and onions. Damn. Damn. Damn

My headlines for today:
I got my diagnostic computer working. I jumped for joy when I was able to successfully connect to the car and program my door locks to lock after x mph.
Weeks of on and off working on this and it's finally working.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand right after finishing, I was sent to pick up someone from JFK Airport (a bitch of a ride; through New York City, potholes galore and drivers that aren't quite considerate) and after going through all the toll plazas and only 10 minutes from the airport, I got the call that someone already picked up him. The 97-01 preludes have an almost identical door that covers the cup holders. Since they are removable in the prelude, I wonder if the cup holder part will fit down under the door on that thing and make a functional cup holder in the bimmer? Spencers, would you point me towards where you bought that, please! I want to get one and give this a try. I need to replace my cup holders anyways, all the rubbery shit is peeling off and it looks bad.

I love my eurotray, never had cupholders in the car. But I dont drink in the car anyway, just bottled water

Our X5 has that same type of cover with cupholders underneath . . . I wonder why BMW didn't do that in the E46 as well. Keep us posted if anyone attempts to hybrid the two!

Yes ours was siimilar, this was the best setup!

If you want a black one, I'm not planning on keeping mine.

What condition and what are you selling it for? (Feel free to respond or PM me). I'll let the others have first dibs since they inquired earlier. John

Imo...that thing looks clean as $%#!....but,....if you drink coffee on the way to work....its kinda poopy. I have been thinkin about doing a retrofit.....so when you slide it back...you have one cup holder in there.....

I wonder if that's possible.

Droid! Srs Legitness!

Hmmm.....good idea! I bet it would be possible, you'd just have to hack up the cupholder a bit. Might even have to cut the bottom off so it's not too tall. I've always liked the look of the Euro tray but I usually have a can of diet Dew open when I'm driving so I think I'll have to be the guinea pig on this.

I've seen some cheaper parts at ECS....but Tischer is typically the cheapest place to get BMW parts.

Pelican, or fcpgroton are also good.

Husker BMW........99% of the time they are a good bit cheaper than Tischer. Example....windshield $225 vs $296....ZHP wheel $331 vs $355....clutch $265 vs $336

Maintenance: CCV hose kit from Ticsher and oil housing gasket while I'm in there.

Car runs strong with no lag since the DME update about 1k miles ago.

Question: Anyone know where to get the two hoses that comes off the "F tube" located on the upper intake boot?

My latest headlines:

Just purchased new summer tires (conti extreme DW) for near future install
But on which rims will they be installed!? Teaser, see next story...

Still undecided on VMR VB3s, Alufelgen CS7s, or refinishing M135s
Refinish will not be perfect and might cost as much as new set of rims, but new sets are all back-ordered and might mean winter tires in MAY!!!!!

Black grilles are here and will be installed this weekend
Along with Spring detailing - to debadge or not to debadge...see next story

With black grilles and chrome all gone, will the "330i" get lonely whilst being the only shiny thing on the car?
Perhaps I should put it out of its misery, or buy a black replacement

Best laid paint plans of mice and men often go awry
I really have no idea when I'm going to get all of the imperfections perfected on my car's body. No clue.

Oil change, preventative maint. coming up at around 70k
Water pump already done, no signs of cooling system weakness, perhaps time to tackle bushings

Spring detail happening NEXT WEEK!
Will spend hours, possibly days, losing myself in the details

Edit -

Cooper S still in winter hibernation after living in accidental igloo for a few months
Cooper S is also really pissed to have a dead battery and for being an edit to this post instead of the lead story - owner will see consequences as problems arise. Cars have feelings, too.

Installed the euro tray (long)! Not sure if I'm going to keep it. I like my cup holders too much. :)

I was convinced I wanted to do this for a long time. But the reality is, for me, that I commute in my car and I have a cup of coffee in there basically daily. Yes, sometimes a little spills. This is why I have napkins handy.

I even find myself (lazy ass that I am) using my *gasp* armrest on occasion! And to think I almost dismantled and sold it.

Hmmm......I noticed last week that when I tried checking prices for them, at 3 different dealer websites, that the fronts were shown as "No Parts Found" so when I called Husker BMW yesterday about something else I asked about the front 135's and he checked his computer and told me it showed "a bunch" in the system. Somebody is getting bad info, nothing personal, but I hope it's you :biggrin. I have a feeling you're right though. Where did you hear this from Marc?

I didn't. Was on the car when I bought it. It's very simple though...
Try some dental floss or what Dane suggested, fishing line. You could try heating it up first to make it easier to come off.

I had a fog bulb out.....and when replacing noted the fog light is only being held in with the frame. I need a screw...lol.

I have replaced so many oem pieces....its boggling......exterior trim.....interior trim (both A pillars/sunshade, etc).......engine repairs. When you come to the meet.....I will show you my tool box drawer dedicated to the receipts for this car...lol.

Still have one dent to get removed, then spring paint correction. Car didn't come with 135's >> FTL.

LOL, nice Spence.

I finally replaced my driver-front wheel bearing yesterday. I had no clue how bad it had gotten until driving it last night & this morning; the noise level was night & day! It is so nice now, though; all smooth, quiet, & BMW-like again. (Unfortunately now I can hear my shocks hissing when going over bumps. :facepalm)

As an indication of how shot the bearing was, when we pulled the hub with a slide hammer, it came off with a shower of ball bearings! I really wish I had a video of that, I don't think it's normal . . .
