I have a 2004 330xi (automatic) and a 2004 330i ZHP (6MT). I've done several performance mods to my xi (Shark Injectror, K&N CAI, fan delete, under-driven pulleys, and light-weight wheels--no FI), and it's pretty spritely. My ZHP is stock except it's been "Sharked". The ZHP is definitely tops at the high-end, but my xi seems to have more power down low--much more "jumpy" (which I mainly attribute to the 3.46 diff). That said, I NEVER get the traction control light to come on in my xi, but I can easily get it to come on (and interfere with my starts) on my ZHP. Is this is typical? Does it mean my ZHP actually has more power/torque down low than I give it credit for?

I think the all wheel drive would help with that. Also the type of tire and tire width would affect the TC.

I had an X1 xDrive35i with 300hp and the AWD never let the TC light up, whereas on every RWD BMW I've had its quite easy to get the TC to light up.

AWD. Not only do you have more power loss through the drivetrain, but you have more grip as well due to all four tires getting power. It takes quite a bit of power to get the traction control to start kicking in on an xDrive BMW.

Thanks for the input, guys. It must be the AWD, as you pointed out. I guess AWD has it's advantages...
