Does anyone else have a bead on fiscally responsibly hardware for the interior trim finishers? Pretty expensive stuff given the quantity needed.

If anyone has a pay it forward set they'd like to sell.... I'm game.

I believe I need 7 of PC 13 and 16 of PC 12. Please correct me if I'm wrong. It's been a fair amount of time since I've had to monkey with trim. Thanks.

I do not remember the door trim finisher hardware looking like a bolt.

I'm fairly certain I used 11 and 13 when reattaching the silver cube door trim in my car. Nothing was threaded as I recall. 4 of each per door?

The pieces that hold the door trims in are definitely not bolts.
I have a few pieces of Piece 13, not sure exactly how many. I'll check when I get home.

Is transferring the hardware from your current trim not an option? I had no issues doing it when I swapped my sister's black cube for silver cube earlier this year.

No trim present. I sold my silver trim a while ago and included my hardware and have been waiting to get my hands on the birch.

I'll check with my local parts guy Dane. I used new hardware to install the two trim pieces over the CD player and glove box. Was pretty cheap if i remember correctly. I bought five or six of number 13 & number 10

Didn't find the door hardware. The only thing carried is the threaded stuff. $9 per thread bolt x 16. Can just buy 16 though because they come in bags of 10.....lmao.

I'll buy the ones online for $3 and change if no one responds that they've got some extras.

Thanks for looking.

Dane,

Parts guy has been out for surgery but he e-mailed me back last night saying he will be back to work tomorrow or Monday. I remember paying around ~1.20 or 1.40 for the pieces. Shipping should be cheap since they are light.

Dane, Could you explain a little more detail exactly which trim pieces you are putting in? You are just replacing the cube trim all around right? I got part numbers from real oem but dont think they are what you need, at least for the trim over the cd player and glove box. When I did my trim, I had these metal pins that pushed into the orange plastic pieces that mount in the dash. I bought new orange insert pieces to go with new pins as some where broken and some pulled out of the dash. What is the condition of yours? Having been there, investigate before you purchase because if they are loose or worn, your trim wont sit right. I may have a few in the car and I'll go look at what I used.

Was off on the price :/ those little guys are expensive! I have attached my quote for the Pins and Inserts (Ignore the dipstick tube O-ring). Also, a few pictures of what I used, and BTW I have 3 spare pins and one insert that I wont be needed. My issue was when I removed the trim, the inserts ripped out of the dash. Even with two sets of vice locks, I could not get the pin to come out of the insert. One of the two inserts is damaged.281362813728138

Edit: I Pay the Net price:)

I have the long pins (PC 13 for the dash trim pieces).

It's all four door trims. I've had my trim off plenty of times and I just don't remember them being threaded. I've conceded to acquiring the threaded bolts (PC 12) now by whatever means I can get them.

I still have my old trim, so I checked into this.

For the dash trim, you need 7 of each: part #10 (orange clips) and #13.
For the doors trim, 16 of each: part #11 (clear clips) and #12.

I have these spares: 1 long clip, 8 orange and 5 clear clips.

28140

On the doors trim, I see the threaded bolts which are attached to the trim itself. They are covered by another bolt (without thread on the outside), then the clear clip goes on top. I can send you my extras (1 long clip, orange and clear clips) plus the bolt covers if you need them.

As for part #13 showing on the doors trim, that must be a mistake.

Is there anyway you could bet me a closer picture of:

1. Threaded bolt

2. Threaded sleeve.

3. 1 and 2 together as an assembly?

Thanks in advance.

I am going to install some trim. So, should I order these new threaded ones with new sleeves? They are not expensive so I don't mind ordering a set. Benefits?

fredo
11-21-2016, 08:54 AM
Looking at realoem it appears only the threaded bolts are available for the doors trim. There's no indication of sleeves in there, so hopefully they come included with the threaded bolts.

Not sure if it's a factor, but the pics I posted are for the wood trim usually found on the e46 325i. That's the one I have in a box so it was easy to get pics.

Considering nobody can seem to find the P/N, I'm inclined to say such a thing doesn't exist.
But, here's what I'll do for ya. I have a spare set of silver cube trim that has the pins installed... I'll send you those pins.
All I ask is that if you ever change out your trim and your replacement trim comes with pins already installed, that you just send these back to me. In the mean time, if I ever have to swap back to silver, I could just transfer from the black cube set I have installed now.

That's way generous BP. Greatly appreciated. Is it your belief the trim should have these installed already (i.e. The purpose s come with the trim)?

Speaking of pins,
Looking at the new part that Fredo referenced above (the threaded bolt), the size description looks exactly the same as the smooth pins that I posted a pic of. The head looks similar as well. I'm thinking that the only difference between my part and the one on RealOEM is the fact that one is threaded. In theory, that pin should still insert into the clear plastic clips just fine.

Compare my pic above to the threaded bolt part:

Time to man up.... Lol.

I have a funny story for you.

Never ASSume anything. When I sold my silver cube trim this year, I included all mounting hardware (dash trim and doors) . At the time, my brain was programmed with the need to purchase new hardware when I found my light birch.

Fast forward to today, as you know I haven't unwrapped the light birch trim because I KNEW I lacked the hardware to install. I went to several dealers who couldn't find the correct part for the door trim, etc, etc...

I was prompted last night to unwrap the trim and sure enough, all the pins are there like they should be. I guess because the dash trim pins are removable, I ASSumed the same held true for the door trim, and would not be included.

I now believe the dash trim mounting hardware can be purchased aside of the trim, whereas the door trim hardware is integral to the trim itself.

Idiot moment realized. Sorry for the drama.
