I hear they make nice wall art if they break though.
Btw I sent you a PM on tapatalk chat earlier today. It’s super glitchy, so let me know if you didn’t get it.
Sorry man I don't have any messages from you. Try again? Lol by the way are you on Instagram?

I would really consider filling that bar with some epoxy to strengthen it. Even if it makes it heavier I think the trade of would be worth the extra weight. BMW uses some strong 2 part epoxy to fill the subframe on the E46 to strengthen it.
I think this is the stuff.

Nice that's the stuff for use with my reinforcement plates two bonded to the sheet metal.
I need to take the bar off and try sticking out clothes hanger all the way through and seeing if it makes it all the way through. If it does and I just need to figure out how to get injected in there without filling the whole thing so I can still get the end of pieces back on.

The only issue with that 3M epoxy is the temp rating which I do believe is 170 degrees, plus the added weight which is minor.
I would consider using this Spray Foam Insulation. It's really lite weight and withstands higher temps, plus it's pretty dam strong once dry. I bet half a can would fill that entire bar.

small update on parts im waiting for.
OEM BMW Fire extinguisher from latvia lol. its with USPS in transit and passed customs so im just in a holding pattern for it. its the newer Gloria version.
waiting for parts from ECS:
- OEM fire extinguisher mounts for driver seat
- OEM E46 first aid box for passenger seat and bracket
- oem e46 warning triangle bracket for trunk
- OEM blue warning triangle case with triangle from germany ebay on its way here as well.
i cant find the stupid umbrella with oem clips. there's on on ebay for $125 but his doesnt have the oem screw in carpet clips so im passing on that.

Well after a month-and-a-half my OEM BMW fire extinguisher finally showed up from Latvia. Unfortunately it looks like it did not get the period Correct E46 / E90 Gloria fire extinguisher. It looks like the one I got is from one of the latest f45 f55 series cars. It's still a nice piece I just wish it was the one that was supposed to be for E46 cars to be more period correct. It did not come with the holder bracket with the strap so I had to look for that piece which is not sold separately. I got lucky on Germany eBay seller that happened to have one so I bought it who knows when it'll be here though.
Hopefully everything comes out okay this is my first time using Tapatalk to post and upload pictures at the same time.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180224/211e9a8503cfa3e658da91fc859bd681.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180224/6a22cc11eccfdd7697991fce787b163d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180224/3b5d4f47c3183d136304f58cacd2c731.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180224/c477416640c28b709f1b637473230b76.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180224/7548d75e8f7070197ded98cbee66ed16.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180224/42c5b97d8775a605b7b5f68deab46a32.jpg

i've decided i want the car to look more OEM so i've decided to depart from the Apex wheels. Yes i know i just got them a few months ago. they were killer wheels, super light and got tons of compliments however they just made the car look too aftermarket and that's not what I want. despite the miles being high, i would love this car to be regarded as a more oem type car given the fact that it has virtually every other oem part/accessory i could find.
i tried style 67 18 inch wheels and they were ok... but still i didn't like the fitment. the fronts were too sunken in and required 15mm spacer to look flush but then the rears needed a 5mm spacer and the rear fender couldn't handle that. so i ditched those and picked up a set of style 219m in gunmetal.
they definitely wont look as "nice" as the bronze Arc 8s but they will certainly fit the theme of the car much better I feel.
i hope to swap tires onto them this weekend but i wanted to see how the rears looked so i threw them on quickly.
the plan is to reuse my tires which are 245/35 rear and 215/35 front.
the apex were 18x10 et25 rear and the 219 are 18x9.5 et23 so it should still fit the same in the rear like the apexs did. the fronts should be nice and flush sitting at 18x8.5 et29 (apex fronts were 18x9 et30)

Finally got my fire extinguisher holder. Since the extinguisher is from the newer BMWs the 4 series... The mounting holes on the holder are just a tad closer together than the e46 extinguisher brackets I mounted under the seats already. That wasn't going to stop me from getting the cool thing installed.
I used some L brackets I had laying around, straighten them out, threaded them and then ended up making tiny bracket extenders 2 bolt this F-series holder. It pretty much came out perfect which I was afraid it was not. I was going to just try to sell this one and get the right one but it fits so well with the new brackets I made. Kind of patting myself on the back on this one [emoji23]
Hopefully these pictures show up I'm using Tapatalk.

love the 219's, shawn! i just wish you had more tire on there... they look a bit cartoonish with so little tire. in my opinion. :)
really digging those seat covers, too - i may order some of those in black, the grain will likely match my rear seat better anyway.

m using the same tires and they are thinner than the 18x10 arc8s lol but i guess because of the LIP profil on OEm wheels it gives that appearance.
in all honesty I will probably just get another set of Bronze Arc 8s. I miss them and they looked so good. i never realized how much I loved them until i didnt have them anymore.
i may take the time to just get a square set of Arc 8.... 18x9.5 et35 all around with a 10mm spacer in the rear this time and go for a 255/35 tire out back.

ok lots of updates not sure where to start.
first on the Wheel front... everyone loves my indecisive on wheels......
the 219M are beautiful but not for me. i placed an order for the Apex group buy and got another set of Arc 8 hyper black in 18x9.5 et35 and 18x10 et25 with metal valve stems and updated oem BMW center caps.... I figured with the up coming M3 fender conversion I could finally run proper tires and get rid of the stretch...
THEN i found a pretty good deal on a set of mint oem ZCP wheels with tires. they were $1800 shipped which is a lot but getting harder to come buy and im seeing less than perfect sets go for $2400 from m3 people which are driving up the value so I jumped on this set as asap.
i will be selling the arc 8s when they come in for what I have in them later.
I have been sourcing a lot of the m3 conversion parts....
saturday Im going to my m3 parts car to cut out the following:
both rear 1/4 panels including the inner wheel well tubs
rear trunk floor pan
I finally found a great body/metal person locally who is handling my rear fender conversion. we went over pictures, ive seen their work on other cars so i feel really confident.
They are even going to graft part of the metal fenders onto the rear doors like its supposed to be.
Front fenders i got a partial sponorship from 2M_Autowerks for their FRP Sedan m3 fenders. body shop will handle sanding/blocking them properly and any fitment issues that arise near the A pillar and door areas.
I have already sourced:
both front complete bixenon AL m3 headlights in mint condition
OEM Aluminum M3 hood
brand new CSL style ECS tuning front bumper with CF canards
used E46 m3 rear bumper with PDC sensors and rear lower diffuser/valence
front and rear Kevlar bumper supports
2M autowerks sedan M3 fenders
m3 fender liners
oem M3 full exhaust and muffler
Car goes into the shop April 9th to begin the transformation and before that i will be selling off front end parts and rear bumper/valence and exhaust stuff as well so i can have the front end assembled and the rear bumper installed for the body person to have the rear bumper in place to line up the rear fenders.
busy year so far.
i can't wait to have an Imola Red Fully m3 converted sedan top to bottom.

i can understand a lot of people on this board probably wont like the car much anymore since it wont really be a ZHP and this board is all about ZHPs.

those fenders look interesting... although the fitment with the bumper doesn't look awesome on their website. you'd think they would've fixed that before posting photos.
i'd be interested in a set without grilles... i think they're a bit gaudy.

I'm assuming you are talking about the instrument cluster? the m3 cluster does not contain LEDs or resistors for the rear door indicators. I had to solder LEDs and resistors to my cluster circuit board before the rear door indicators would light up.
for the side mirrors, since I grinded down about 3mm from the long side of the mirror.. yes the angle of the mirrors sits fine now and the base is flush with the A pillar like on M3s

Yeah the cluster, ok, i have my old dash, but is the circuit board the same or did you have to do more? don't surpose you have a picture?
Ok great, i have a set of M3 mirrors so i'll go ahead and start to fit them..

I didn't do anything different then what is covered in the DIY thread covered by Charlie aka Cak.
He also did and covered cutting the longside of the mirror door base. Some people get lazy and skip that part on sedans because they usually don't care for the finer details..

Hi. Yeah the cluster. Ok did everything work after the led’s and resisters were in?
I noticed the car lights up when the rear door was open with the m3 cluster.
So no coding needed on the cluster?

car was dropped off this morning at the body shop.
so far I have made sure to fit the M3 rear bumper and kevlar bumper carrier so that the body shop has the bumper in place for fender arch alignment. ive also went ahead and fitted the M3 hood, Status gruppe CSL bumper, headlights and corner lights. the fenders are still in transit from shipping but will drop those off at the body shop as well when they arrive.
the M3 hood has a little damage on the corner that the shop will fix and they are doing to block and prep the fenders and front bumper so everything will be fitted and ready for paint in a few weeks.
getting so pumped for this to be complete. my little 4 door fake M3

the 2M Autowerk fenders are a blend of Sedan back half fenders and M3 top and front half so the fenders will have the sedan molding location. I will MOD the sedan molding to accept the M3 sidemarker light.
all moldings will be painted imola with the car.

the guy i bought the CSL wheels from told me they were perfect and I paid $1800 for them.. then when he was about to ship them.. he sent me pictures showing a huge BUMP on the inside of the barrel... like someone drive the wheels on low tire pressure and hit a ROCK.. it looked bad. he didnt offer any price reduction and just said its an easy fix... i just asked for my money back.
it wasnt meant to be so for now ill do the Arc 8 in hyper black which are more silver which I like. if I see a good deal on oem ZCP wheels then i will jump on them.

got the fenders in last night from the shipping company. we test fit them just literally laying them in place. no bolts are in. for the most part they line up pretty nicely as is so with some bolts and adjustments and some shaving here and there.... they should look much better.
Fenders are from 2M Autowerks, their Sedan M3 fender replicas.

Yes but not too much. I've seem some people that go way overboard with the flare in the door. I've also seen it with no flare on the door and it looks a little off. We just want a tad to finish off the curve of the flare.

Nah, that would require more work in the rear quarter section, trunk modifications.. I'm ok with my sedan led half red half clear lights. It gets the job done enough to give off the M3 look effect especially with the rear bumper out back.

not much, body shop guy has been down for health issues (back and leg issues) for about 1.5 weeks. he just started back today and has the passenger side flare on.. and the driver side almost done.
both side wheel tubs still need to be done and will get pictures of that when it is.
for now heres a pic of the passenger side with the door flare more complete.

It's an oem M3 bumper. The only thing I had to do was get the M3 Kevlar bumper support. And It all bolted up and the bumper fits just fine and now that the flares are getting done the M3 flares actually have the clip that the bumper slides into.
I think the body shop guys doing an amazing job with the rear flares so far and getting them to match up to the rear bumper and the doors and lower door jamb area is coming out pretty sweet

probably because most M3s you see with these wheels are running a square setup with 4 rears all around. i would love do that one day but its more expensive to have 4 rear wheels.

You are right. Zcp 8inch up front and CSL 8.5 up front.
I'm hoping the 15mm spacerer up front will give it back some aggressiveness pushing it out more. I know it can't replace contact patch but for now it will have to do.

Car is going to the paint shop tomorrow and I was very busy all weekend until today. After work I try to do as much as I can to get the car ready. I wanted to get the fitment issues with my fenders Hood headlights and my status gruppe bumper squared away before paint and it felt like it took forever. I don't think I could ever recommend status gruppe bumper again to anybody. Way too much work to get the fitment that I have. For some reason on my mind when I pay almost $800 for a name brand bumper I kind of expect a little bit better fitment.
Started taking a whole bunch of body pieces off in preparation for paint trim rain gutter door handles headlights taillights and have the front rear bumper Loosely bolted on so they can come off at the paint shop pretty easily.
Here's a picture of my final fitment of the front bumper.

Yes staying Imola red. I thought about a newer red from one of the newer BMWs but in the end I love Imola especially at sunset.
Just dropped the car off at painter this morning. Gonna be a few weeks since there so much clean up he has to do. Front end needs special attention to get it to match the front first then paint the entire area again.
Also has to sand and paint both rear door jambs from where the quarter flares were welded in.
All the little things I pulled off to get painted separately.
Door handles
Headlight trim
Rain gutter pieces
Lower CSL diffuser painted red with cf center
All four door side moldings
He has to paint under side of hood from blue to red, inside edges of fenders. Front bumper by itself
It's coming together though.

I love having a paint guy that has such good attention to detail. I didn't think that there were that many little issues and Imperfections in the body itself for the car with the new pieces I purchased I sure enough he found tons of little areas and spots that need to be smoothed out and filled in. Just added some extra time to the whole process but I'd much rather wait and get things done the right way.
Car should be getting primer tomorrow as it was just washed off today after glazing and block sanding.
Hopefully next week It should be finished painted.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180613/c71aa3b6b8136a07f1c8e9497b0ccc1c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180613/c663f6b52eb1e83a6f2c60380f3d4550.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180613/b9ecfb181ecdfaafbff49427d144f790.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180613/e1931150fb68e80120835de15d3812c3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180613/38c271f7d8ab449fb1138b84f15b2a9d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180613/d02f02e7af94f7d4146c6951c852b8ed.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180613/178e20d25cac6d07d288975d1aa609b3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180613/03f22437fefcdb89ac9d4a2d62552c7a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180613/52c720103ae81e47380b01200efe523a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180613/382963f426ddf5d3e6b9389daf9cd610.jpg

of course. its killing me waiting for the final product. now im having a dilemma trying to figure out if I want to to OEM Chrome side M3 fender grills with Chrome/Black center Kidney grills or if I want to go CF M3 fender grills with Gloss black kidney grills.
the car will have center CF rear CSL diffuser, front CF splitters, gloss black hood vent, Black M3 mirror base plates and the gloss ZHp shadowline trim all around o I thought the CF side grills and gloss black kidneys would compliment them well.
i have both sets to decide which one I want just need to make a decision.

you wouldn't mold the fenders to the bumpers. you would mold the bumpers to fit the shape and fitment to the fender attachment points. trying to mold the fenders to the non M bumpers would give you awkwardly tapered fender flares front and rear. you want to widen the bumper covers to reach the fenders essentially

i know that car. it was actually worked on about 45 min north of me in Hoschton GA near brasleton. the guys that worked on that car are copart guys. they buy cars on copart, fix them and resell them or part them out. "Clean Title" is sketchy to me coming from them.
on the fender conversion alone, at a distance it looks ok but get closer and look at a few things on the rear....
- rear fender arches are not tapered properly into the bottom area where it meets the chassis and side skirt. on that car its still sticking out and juts out from the body
- rear doors have way too much flare on them.
- Front fenders dont meet the bumper at all. severe overlap. could be just not using the M3 specific bumper but instead using a non M m3 style bumper. the M3 bumper requires the M3 hood and headlights.
i know they welded some of the fenders to the body but when i saw in progress pictures I saw more than i care for in body filler.
Im curious to know if they welded the rear inner tubs or just filled it in with seam sealer and called it a day because that is important. as its a structural piece.
the fender grill location looks a bit off.
i hate talking crap about another ride as i still think its a cool conversion but its just not polished to me or it could just be me being very picky.
Theres another guy up the street from me that has a 1999 sedan e46 with an S54 swap. really nice guy and he started his M3 fender conversion on his own as well. Ill ask him to get some pictures so I can post them up /he stops by occasionally to chit chat etc..

the guys that worked on that car are copart guys. they buy cars on copart, fix them and resell them or part them out. "Clean Title" is sketchy to me coming from them.
There’s a place like that a little north of Charlotte. I went and looked at a ZHP up there, and they just gave me a super sketchy vibe.

Base coat is done and clear coat goes on in a few min.
4 coats of imola base and 2 coats of clear after that.

you bet your ass. i haven't had the car since April 9th and even then it was down for about 2 weeks due to yanking parts off for a part out in preparation for the body conversion.
im very excited and since i have off work tomorrow I am hoping I can get the car back tonight or tomorrow morning and start putting parts back together on it.

thanks man, projects like this just mean I will need to wait until next year to do other mods like I would love to do brakes such as the 135i yellow performance brake system front and rear. that's no my list eventually.

ill see it in person soon but its most likely the white balance. most cameras err on the side of magenta in white balance when photographing reds in general.

From my experience (and recollection) red is the most difficult color for digital sensors to capture. Especially when trying to capture detail.

Like the post below, Derek and I are both all about OEM+, but sometimes it's just not worth it. Feel doesn't really improve all that much for daily use, and for track usage, the seals melt very quickly. They're large and hard to change pads on. They look cool, but that's about it.
But, if the look is all he's going for, then... have at it! Just figured I'd warn Shawn before he realizes these downfalls.

They do look good, no doubt. But I agree I wish I’d just splurged for STs or 996s given the uses they’re seeing.

Nothing wrong with them with OEM pads, even on the track. I didn't find it that difficult to change pads on the 135 but when I go for a BBK I'll probably go with Wilwood... good brakes at a reasonable price

I had issues with the dust seals melting the first weekend I was out. Of course I was using Carbotech XP10 pads. Don't forget to use a multi-piston reset tool as the single piston caliper reset tool is far too large and won't fit in it.
And honestly, I have beef with ECStuning now soo I hate them. :)

I bushed. Went to pick up the car at 10 am this morning headed to the house to start putting it back together.
I was hoping I would get done by like 6 to get some good pictures but it was a real pain in the ass give me the front bumper realigned and the washer bottle fabricated onto the new bumper and the horns and the wiring. How to do more cutting and fabbing while being careful with the new paint.
here's some timeline pictures from this morning up until right now. The car is 99% finished the only thing missing is the rear tow hook cover which didn't get painted by accident so I'll have to pick it up later this week when it gets repainted.
Picture of the rear of the car shows the truck not completely closed so that's why there's a gap and I photo shopped the tow hook cover out for now.
I need to clean the wheels up there's a little overspray on them it's dust so it just wipes off.
Currently I'm running 10 mm spacers in the back and 20 mm spacers up front. I need to get the camera readjusted in the front to bring the tops back out.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180705/8783f4a9911b21e5ee96e8d567d6174e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180705/640b2300d9ad52dc918ee893bd4d5f12.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180705/f330e34ec47731dccf2164a33fca9ae3.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180705/8b5a9c60d23a2892570a9bc02c18d33d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180705/47f1069b8c354343b6ac53733c2ef887.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180705/60059af02c97357fe5cadb072b2b3b78.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180705/dd19dacf3e741307e5e439ff9d274099.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180705/d950c869765064a2fe14dc23e5c5b9e9.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180705/5ae5d81a214bf8d68782432013302842.jpg

I’ve seen quite a few M3 sedans, some that have no build threads or we’re just custom fabbed and the cars are just daily drivers
But you’ve now inspired me to complete my car to my own liking [emoji1374], IMOLA is an incredibly beautiful color

Thanks Charlie, jeppe is on a whole different level and he did it a long time ago to before there was a massive amount of resources available online and when parts were a lot more expensive. Not to mention his is more of a true M3 than mine the whole SMG swap and coupe trunk and quarters. Timeless an amazing build.

Very true Shawn :thumbsup One thing different I will do with mine when that time comes is I will also swap out my front radiator support for the same part from the vert... since it is reinforced I want to make the car as strong as possible in front...damn!!! After seeing your car I'm already starting to see the gears in my head turning... planning for that time....;)
