Today in traffic it was stop and go for about 25 minutes. My red oil warning light would flicker on and off 3 or 4 times and then turn off. I got really nervous at first and was ready to turn off at the next exit. It only happened as I would gently accelerate from an idle. This happened four or five times.

The warning light didn't light up at all after that at highway cruising speeds or even after I got passed about 1000 rpm. Is this the oil pressure sensor that needs to be replaced. I saw a few other threads here about other symptoms.

Is that something I could easily replace myself?

I assume this is the right part:
E46 Oil Pressure Sensor (https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-oil-pressure-switch-genuine-bmw-12612367061)

Part No. 12 here:

E46 Oil Pressure Sensor, part no. 12 (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=EV53-USA-03_2001_E46_BMW_330i&diagId=11_2201#12618611273)

Oil level is normal based on the dipstick?

Yes, I checked it and it is right where it should be.

Well, the sensor wasn't where it was indicated on the schematic from RealOEM, but it wasn't too hard to get to. It only took about 30 minutes. Make sure you have a 15/16 or 24 mm open socket wrench if you do this in the future.

Let's hope that little red light stops lighting up.
