Well, you guys were right. I'm back after a year without my ZHP...but looking for an M3 now.

Year(s): 03-06
Budget: ~$15k
Desired location of vehicle: NC but willing to travel within reason
Desired Mileage: under 130k
Transmission type: 6MT
Desired number of Doors: 2 (no verts!)
Desired Color combos: Black exterior first choice, not too picky about interior
Desired Packages: all
Funds lined up? CASH IN HAND
Have a car you need to sell first?

It's impossible to find a decent car that hasn't been beat to shite...I'm losing hope!!!

Get a PPI done and have the Vanos and Subframe checked.

I test drove the M3 today. My impressions:

Drove ok. No major flaws immediately apparent
Exterior and interior condition is reasonable. Needs a deep clean.
Taillight ground indicator warning light on - recall is available to fix
On hard breaking, tires squeaked loudly
Low pressure warning light on - he claims due to sensor
Car was obviously very fast.
Lots of play in the steering wheel
When I tried to corner hard, tires squealed again, so I didn't push further
Engine Bay dirty.
Red around rims are plastic strip covering road rash
Owner has neglect the car the past two years
He said it was diagnosed with small sub frame crack that eventually needs addressing, but isn't urgent.

Overall he seems itchy to sell and I think a good deal can be made. He's asking $15k. He's a nice guy. This could be a good starter M3 for someone, but I would be prepared for a lot of maintenance and repairs. Car was serviced at RRT - a highly reputable BMW Indy - he will provide service records. Any questions let me know. Location is Great Falls Virginia.

RRT diagnosed the subframe crack and I'm sure the owner can get the details from RRT on that or give permission for you to speak with RRT on that issue and their overall experience with the car.

Well at least he was honest about the subframe crack. How good are you with DIY? At this mileage it will need inspection I and II, Beisan Systems vanos lock down and the subframe reinforced at a minimum. If you can't DIY prepare to spend thousands.

This car will make for a good project car if you're willing to put time and money to bring it current. Subframe needs to be addressed first with this car though...

Grey interior? Ugh. Owner neglect? Double-ugh. But if it's never been hit, and the subframe crack is minor, and the oil pressure problem really is the sensor, (and and and and)... maybe at the right price.

I don't know...I'd go dark tint and try to keep it out of the sun before I had to look at that abomination of an interior. It's just funny because what people try to call it "Dove Grey" on the E36 is awesome. Beige for the sedans is fine too. Just something about the hue or tone of THAT grey is awful.

Agreed. It's the rental car silver of interiors, IMO. But some people prefer it.

That is a great price for a seemingly clean car.

Ehhhh, it's decent, priced at upper end for 02's. 05-06 fetch about 20k for same car.

In many cars yes I agree but that grey has grown on me over the years.

And yes, NOT dove grey lol.

Personally I have no problem with that grey as long as it's consistent: colors like that tend to fade poorly and inconsistently over time.

Agreed. I'm confused why the first photo looks to be a different car. The exterior color appears blue but could just be a filter, but it's also missing the shark fin shown in the other pictures.

Carbon black does that when exposed to bright light/reflection. Has a lot of blue flake in the metallic.
