i saw a post by GP Burdell on another forum about the factory sunblind and they stated that they installed side shade blinds along with the rear manual blind.
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2418303&postcount=7
were they talking about 3rd party/aftermarket?
i cant seem to find any mention of an OEM rear side sunshade option for E46 Sedans.

you may be right. I checked all the normal sites with the PN I found which is 51460004485
every site shows NLA, even other BMW sites... but Tischer shows a price so im crossing my fingers that they happen to have a set somewhere.
it doesn't even look like it was available in other countries, only the USA?
they are manual but with my son in the back and he hates the sun, these look like a great option to have if they can be found.

Rear shade is manual; I never put it down. Bought these years ago when the E46 was still in production.
I also have the uber-rare "auxiliary fuel tank" that fits inside the spare tire. Holds about 3 gallons.

I'm probably going to have tint applied to my coupe. I hope to find a factory manual shade like the one for my E39. A member here found one on Amazon recently, but not factory-issue.
The black metal auxiliary fuel canisters came in 6 & 9 liter versions to fit within the different wheel diameters.

both the OE and aftermarket rear side door sunshades attached by clips. when not in use, you FOLDED the shades and placed them into a nylon bag of some sort and when they wee in use they expanded out on their own and snapped into clips that were placed on the inside window trim areas. they did not rull up nor were they power.

Are the clips snap in clips or do they use adhesive? I found a guy that has a set but curious how hard it will be to remove those clips 👀

Whelp, i got em. Very excited about this pickup. The clips just clip on, no adhesive. I was browsing random bimmer marketplace ads per usual and ran across a guy out of state selling a relatively clapped 323i for $2k. No joke, one of the lines in the for sale ad was "Car does effortless standstill burnouts."
Lo and behold he had the rear window shades in there! Was able to convince him to separate them from the sale of car (after legit 2 and half months of back and forths on messenger) and scooped em up today. I love getting obscure options for my zhp. I can't seem to help myself, my GF says its problematics lmao

I have the sedan version of those installed in my zhp currently (but not for long as I have the OEM version now). They are excellent and I highly recommend them. The fitment is pretty spot on, although the rear quarter for the sedan window tends to fall out after maybe 20-30 door closes. If you contact the company they will send you clips to fix that for free. The instructions aren't very good for installation but if you get them set in there correctly you can open and close the window with no problem. I do think if the window is fully open they would fly out though, so I would to 1/4 - 1/3 cracked.
It actually was pretty difficult to get them set in correctly. In the photo below, I had them like that for about a year. Like that you cant roll the window down. You actually have to have the top not tucked into the window frame apparently if you want to be able to roll the window down. Another gentlemen on an e46 FB group shared that with me.
https://dsm01pap001files.storage.live.com/y4mUYmix3hi3Id7eEu5HFL7luatIOGsOSFtluJA61X2H2LE8oi 50nhf8FGGnr55mxuZsRbLIsUZB_zKzOskXKawu0GkDajkmvDf3 w8xF2eJ8HXtMMJCeP_-ogOLjDDThzRF_z4IxeiSuFMZhplgNZTY2anYyCSckRMCBEWIOY sBuSScx2qn69yq_n7JNbsedtBg?width=660&height=495&cropmode=none
so this is the close up the way I had it fit that is apparently not the correct way.... It was snug as a bug but you need it to be away from the window to be able to use the window. They have a little tab that lets you make that work.
