Hi all -

Just learned about ZHP's a few months ago and can't get them off of my mind. I currently drive an F80 M3 and although great, it's too much money to justify spending at this time. Lease is up in 10 months or if someone assumes it sooner, so I am thinking about a ZHP as the next daily.

I will likely buy something low mileage, 6-spd, a sedan, and with maintenance records.

That said, I've never driven one! Some have said I will be disappointed and the car will feel archaic, but for some reason I don't think so. I'm still very tempted as new cars don't appeal to me unless they are crazy expensive. For example, I think I'd rather drive a ZHP than a new Accord or 330i for that matter. I have an S2k as well and although nowhere near the speed and torque of my M3, I feel its adequate and matches the characteristics of the car - making it a fun ride.

Alex

Welcome, Alex. Whereabouts are you located? We're such a smug group that you could probably drive a local member's car just to feel how awesome the ZHP is.

Écho the fact that someone in your neck of the woods could let you drive one. I remember my first drive in one (mine is not a Zhp), I couldn't drive the owner's car (stricker I think, I met with Rando and and... Never mind) even though he asked if I wanted to. Something stopped me. But driving in the passenger seat was enough to feel the difference with mine.

ZHP are intoxicating. I have a ZHP and an n52 e90 6MT with nowhere the HP of your M. The e90 is a great DD with enough oomph and fun factor, after removing the runflats, BPC tuning the engine and a BMW Performance Exhaust. That said, all of this is secondary to the feel of a ZHP.. especially the steering rack and MT gear box. Plus it's modern enough, safe and can be run forever with appropriate PM and fixes. Not something you can say about ANY modern BMW.

Good luck in your search

How is everyone insuring their cars? I've seen price ranges from $5 -$35k and I wouldn't be insuring it as a collector car, but want to be sure I'm not driving a $20k example and have $5k insurance coverage.

If you're worried about insurance payouts, spending more than 7-9k is going to be a waste of money as you won't get much more than that, if that. You could always do some kind of agreed value type of thing though...

Interesting...I know Chubb offers an agreed upon policy for about $2k a year for $20kish of coverage which is pretty ridiculous.

I found myself a nice original owner, 2005 Imola Red Sedan 6-speed, Alcantara, cold weather and premium package with 55k miles and I love it. I transferred out of my 2015 F80 and I honestly don't miss it at all. This car is so much car for the money, and a great value to me. I finally feel like I'm not working for my car.

Last week I replaced all tires with new Michelin PSS's, oil, diff, trans, power steering, brake fluid change, fuel filter, and cabin filter. In the next 5k miles I will likely replace the expansion tank and hoses during the next oil change. Not sure I need anything else at this point, but happy to hear any suggestions.

That's a win right there, and low miles to boot. Congrats.
No oil leaks?

Thanks! No leaks or issues to address mechanically. A few cosmetic issues like curb rash on the wheels and scrapes on the bumpers, but otherwise a really nice unmolested car.

Nice list^. Z4M FCABs.
Do the strut bearings/top hats with the anti-mushroom plates and end links while you're in there.
