Updated pics? Pic of the tint and iPhone mount?

I recently installed ceramic tint. I fear I went too dark. Would love to see your 35%

I misspoke, the tint is actually carbon fiber. Definitely helps with the heat and the fade reduction in the summer.

Nice to have another Dlux user onboard! It looks like your trim lays pretty flat over the phone mount? Mine does too, which I've been told is a rare occurrence.

Yeah it does lay pretty flush- I've had the mount with the magnet setup in all my past cars including my recent F30 and idk what I would do without it. Much safer than having to fumble around with my phone while driving.

Looks great! Are you doing any post-paint protection like a ceramic coating?

dlucas589
08-19-2017, 07:30 PM
Thanks! Yes, I think I do my own ceramic coating. Based on what I've read it seems I should wait at least 2-4 weeks before washing, waxing or doing anything to new paint as it is still curing.

For now focused on getting the new mirrors on, new lenses as well as the RCR setup :)

Was the sunroof seal a pain? It only took one sunroof leak in the X3 (albeit from the drains, not the seal) to have me a little paranoid about things like this.

Overall it probably only took me an hour to do. The glass is held on by only 6 T25 screws that are all easily accessible from inside the cabin. Once you get the glass off, removing the seal is pretty easy, there is not adhesive or anything, just a rubber grove that the seal "snaps" into. Getting the new one on proved to be harder, as getting it to "snap" in all the way around took a good amount of finger power and a small flat head screwdriver to push it in and "lock it"..

Once you get it back on the tricky part is making sure the glass is level with the roof, so its helpful to have someone outside the car checking if its level before you tighten the screws inside. Have not tried pouring water on it yet, but will do soon to test. There are no gaps or anything and the fit looks just as good as my non-leaking seal before it. Except this one doesn't have dried wax, bird droppings, and 12 yrs of age and crustiness...

Yes, these are the OEM Euro lights from Turner. The bulbs I have are LED Cree Canbus: http://r.ebay.com/zcwk2f. No flicker at startup or bulb out notifications.

I will take some more pics on the Sunroof later tonight

Finished up the RCR setup tonight...

Kept the stock bulbs in the bottom row of red running lights, put LEDs in turn signals, red brakes on top, and white reverse.

They flicker on startup, which I will need to code off in PA...just need to find the software around here somewhere. When I sold my last E46 I kept the OBD cord...I knew I'd be back. [emoji56]

What brand of Headlight Lenses?

Thanks Vas!

I went Khoalty lenses with 3M Clear Film on lenses, turn signals, fog lights and side indicators. The film was easy on the small pieces but I tried to cover the large tail light assemblies and ended up with stubborn bubbles and I was running out of film so I think I will leave the tails naked for now.

Thanks guys!

Took apart the headlights tonight to start the TRS retrofit only to see that my headlight bowls were perfect, no burn whatsoever. Most likely going to return the TRS kit or sell it on here if there is interest... Very surprised they weren't burnt with 118K miles. PO must have never drove at night...
Still swapped out the Xenon for the Osram...made a huge difference.

Installed the Khoalty Angel Eyes and we are in business! The front end is officially done!

I bought the wheel from "ledermanz" who is a custom handmade steering wheel fabricator in Latvia. I reached out to him via ebay where he has a lot of wheels posted. Here is a sample link:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/253019679441?ul_noapp=true

You can basically write into him through ebay saying exactly what you want and attach a pic (I did). He'll give you a quote and send you a paypal request for the money. I'd say it took about 2 weeks total to show up at my door. It was $480 to him + 40 import duty paid to UPS when it arrived in the USA. No core deposit to deal with, and it came ready to go with a leather wrapped lower trim. I had him add extra thickness. The quality and finish is of OEM quality.

Overall the price seemed in line with other leather wheel suppliers, and if you search "ledermanz" on google his reviews are stellar across multiple M3 and M5 forums as well as other brands. I was a bit surprised there wasn't much mention of Ledermanz on ZHPMafia, but hoping more people catch on (if they aren't going the alcantara route- Coby Wheel). Hope this helps!

Got my FCABs done this weekend. The driver side was so bad and ripped off leaking oil...

The steering wheel under braking shakes wayy less but there still is some vibration. I’m thinking this could be the original control arms actually need replacing or the brakes/rotors are pretty rusted and may need to be re-bedded.

Been away awhile (over a year) and while I haven't been neglecting the ZHP.. it certainly has not been top priority. Just moved into our newly built house and spent all summer putting in my own paver patio so car work and budget has largely been cut. Major accomplishments were the cooling overhaul and finally addressing the worsening rust bubble on the passenger rear quarter panel. The body shop had to cut out the metal and weld in new to get it done right. Looks brand new again [emoji4]

Just curious; How much did that rust repair set you back?

It was $775 which I consider very reasonable considering they cut out metal and welded in new and took apart everything and did a really good job blending the paint. Its almost impossible finding any reputable body shops (in my area) who are willing to work on rust and was lucky to find this spot.

Sad to see you had to sell it but enjoy the m3 ownership.
