Just bought my 4th BMW and finally A ZHP! Went from E36 M3 to 330ci vert to 335is and now, refreshingly back to an E46. 2006 black zhp convertible. Pic below. Need to find 135M wheels, as last guy made a choice I wouldn't have with the wheels, but car overall is in excellent condition.

Welcome! It's a beauty! I'd be interested in hearing more about what you find "refreshing" in moving from a 335 to the ZHP. Also, I'd go with some lightweight wheels (e.g., APEX) instead of going back to 135's.

Located in Fredericksburg, VA. Found it at a dealer who didn’t know what zhp was in Manassas.

Thanks R1. I’ll check out the APEX. I think the E46s are better balance of power, handling, comfort than the 335 is. 335is steering was light, ride was a little too “refined,” and has too much unusable HP. E46 has just the right amount of HP to make it fun to drive the twistys and not kill yourself or go to jail in doing so. If I were tracking, I’d have stuck with the 335is. It was fun. But I have no intention of doing so. E46 to me is more fun to drive where I drive.

I test drove a 335 coupe (2007, I think) a couple years ago, and it was exactly as you describe. I adore my 330i ZHP--especially with the 3.38 rear diff--but I'm seriously considering an ESS Tuning TS supercharger. My son's trying to talk me out of it for the same reasons you point out, but I'm a tad power-crazed.

What you get is 5 seconds of fun before you have to slow down because you get up to speed so quickly. And powering out of turns can be tricky because there’s so much torque. I think about 30-50 more pound-feet of torque would be ideal. But it really is a matter of preference. I just have more fun in the E46s.

Do you still have your 135s? I saw that you were replacing them on another post.

What I like most about the shorter diff isn't getting to speed from a standstill; it's that, once at speed and in gear, the torque and acceleration are noticeably increased, which equals more FUN! I imagine a supercharger--especially a screw type--would offer something similar... only 4x more--YEEHAW!

I do still have them. They're serving very nicely as my winter wheels--not that they see any snow, but I prefer to subject the older tires on those wheels to months of weighted storage rather than my new tires (although I do rotate them regularly and didn't notice any deformation from last winter). The wheels are in very good/marginally excellent condition.

Nice snag on finding a zhp that someone thought was a regular 330! Those wheels probably saved you a good bit of $$$ by not giving it away.
I have a set of 135's down in Charlotte if you don't find some local. There's a good bit of Virginians on this forum so your odds are solid.

Welcome.

"ZHP is a garbage option anyway- just some cosmetic upgrades with a different cam and diff to claw back some of the performance lost fitting those hideous and heavy wheels. Any 330 with a 3.46 diff will smoke a ZHP every time. The whole Mafia thing reeks of childish behavior." - anonymous E46 fanatic

JR: I read your posts about your SC experience. I'm torn on TS1 vs TS2. I don't track the car, so I'm not concerned about heat soak, and I don't anticipate further upgrades.

A '2' would be more fun. :)

Picked up the ZHP as a daily commuter over a year ago with a little over 54k miles. Today the odometer is at 145k and change. I've logged roughly 1500 miles a week and have enjoyed every single mile.

I have a 330xi for my daily driver to preserve the ZHP.
