That's good to hear !

Nice when easy fixes make big improvements

I was getting used to driving my Audi on a daily basis and enjoying the car until the CPS started having issues... it's a relief to have this issue resolved. I will be figuring out what other sensors could contribute to shutting off the engine and begin a preventive maintenance program to replace them to ensure reliability of this fine Audi... much more to come!

I decided to reinstall my modified wiring harness and connect everything back together and test the head unit.

I found the bluetooth dongle and easily paired my iPhoneX to it and was able to stream audio from my iPhone to the RNS-E head unit thru the Aux port. Hell, doing this was much easier than setting up my M3 and it still does not have bluetooth streaming but that will change soon thanks to Ted's work :thumbsup

Went to Banchwerks (my local indy shop) today to have my driver’s front window regulators replaced.

Turns out the wiring behind my driver’s front door panel got jacked up due to poor workmanship from the previous guy who replaced the window regulator last time.

This guy did not secure all the connectors back into their respective retainer clips on the door panel (I guess it was just too hard for him to reinstall those connectors) and some of the wiring in the door harness got frayed as a result.

The tech working on my car today had to rebuild the damaged wiring and replace a damaged connector entirely to get everything fully sorted out after replacing my window regulator.

It goes to show you that you never know who worked on your car prior to your ownership but it is how you deal with issues like this. When the weather improves, I will be revisiting this area and complete it by soldering/heat shrinking the damaged wiring and replacing the damaged connector with the proper part.

Shoutout to the guys at Banchwerks Jessie/Theo and their crew for getting this fixed so I would not have issues in the mean time. The resoldering part will be easy for me because of their quality repair.

Finally we’re experiencing Spring weather over here in New England!!!

I took advantage of the great weather today and started taking out my OE solid red tail lights to install the Euro Avant tail lights I recently sourced.

Got a lot of dirt to clean off and decided to detail this area before mounting the new Euro tails...

This is the driver’s side...

Applied some 3M rubbing compound then sealed the area using Rejex sealer before mounting the new Euro tails...

The Silver Audi S4 Avant went on to a new owner today who plans to do a complete restoration of the car. It is nice knowing this car will eventually be brought back from it's current sad state to a drivable daily driver. I'm looking forward to seeing progress on this car since a friend of mine purchased it today. I am officially now a 3-car garage :)

Setting up my new daily driver has become an ongoing thing recently and I'm now looking at getting a new set of tires soon since this is my daily driver... so I decided I will be getting Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires for my RPF-1 wheels.

https://live.staticflickr.com/7802/46637198455_8560041bcc_c.jpg

By June I plan to replace my rotors and rear calipers not out of necessity but rather another opportunity to do maintenance and upgrade at the same time...

All I need to do to complete my 18Z caliper upgrade is to get the VOSHMODS 300MM FULL KIT for B5 S4
https://live.staticflickr.com/7904/47552641511_62565554dd_b.jpg

https://live.staticflickr.com/7869/47552641461_0323a18cf8_b.jpg

I can order the calipers in yellow so that's the route I plan on going when I order this kit in June.

The rotors I will be upgrading to are Girodisc 2-piece rotors.

https://live.staticflickr.com/7879/47552641421_4848784fa9_b.jpg

This should complete the look I'm going for with my Audi and then sometime later this summer I plan to give her a proper drop with Bilstein PSS-9s.

The "beater car" will now go to the shop tomorrow to have the rear wheel bearings and hubs changed out. Had my mechanic take my car out after doing the rear wheel bearing maintenance on it just to make sure there are no other issues to tackle. He will deliver my car to me in the morning and I will take him to his work so he can get his car. I never do this with anyone but seeing he's a good friend of mine's son, I don't see any issue with this. I have known my mechanic since he was in grade school :)

Ugh, that sounds painful

Did you see that there is/are Audi engines that have the timing chains etc in the rear of engine between engine and trans, etc.

That sounds like a horribly expensive, huge, and aggravating job to replace chains and guides

Was a real PITA to take out

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190921/ffee8387ff76faaf9ab94e52f8b5d340.jpg

So I will take a few days to really clean out this area before reinstalling the new part.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190921/aedcf2e9e0b5ca7bc4d343b23436d94f.jpg

I did the cursory inspection of my radiator fan and noticed 4 fan blades with cracks at the base of each so will be ordering a new OEM fan blade assembly.

There is a cooling sensor on the passenger rear part of my engine that will also be replaced. I may end up replacing my windshield washer reservoir depending on what I find there...

So lots to do while the front is taken apart.

Thanks Serg and Guy. I can say I stayed away from Audi for this long because I have heard how you have to take off the front of the car in order to do maintenance. I have always been afraid of doing this until this car. It is a time-consuming process to do maintenance on these cars but not too difficult. This is the second time I have taken off the front of this car myself and I can say going thru this the second time around, it is not as bad as I initially thought.

Each car have their unique ways to do maintenance and once you figure them out it is really not too bad as long as you have the right tools to do the job. In this case Botond was nice enough to lend me his ramps so I could do this. :thumbsup

I will say taking out the alternator for this car is a bigger PITA than it is when doing this maintenance/repair on the E46 BMW...

While I have my Audi in the garage and I’m waiting till Friday to get the parts, I decided to start giving the old girl a good detailing.

I’m sore today from working on the car yesterday but I managed to get the rear hatch, rear bumper and rear passenger side quarter panel clayed, compounded, sealed and waxed.

The finish on those areas where I detailed them are very close to what I currently have on my M3 and Porsche... [emoji41]

Replacement parts ordered from FCP Euro so I will have their lifetime warranty on these parts and coolant. I also sourced an OEM Audi radiator fan assembly to replace the broken one I found while doing this maintenance. Once I get these parts the fun part (reassembly) will commence this upcoming weekend...[emoji41]

As for the detailing... I’m progressing on the passenger side and getting the car detailed to my standards. Panels are smooth and looking like glass. Paint surface feels velvety smooth.

The area where my alternator is mounted was covered in oily dirt and was everywhere.

I got the new parts installed today, checked all hoses and ensured all connections were tight and secure. Got the entire front put back together this afternoon with exception of the under body panel.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191006/359eed02ae17c9167e45d8e45cdc73da.jpg

Filled the coolant so I will need to get the car started so I can get the cooling system burped and checked for any leaks. Once that is done, I can secure the under panel then take the car off the ramps and recheck my coolant levels again before running the Audi full time again[emoji41]

Bled the cooling system this morning before going to work, checked for leaks and found none so I secured my under panels before driving my Audi today.

Compared to my M3 and Porsche, I feel like I’m riding much higher in the Audi.... but it was nice driving the Audi again[emoji1]

Today I went out on a nice road trip using my Audi to Botond’s place and back to deliver car ramps Botond was nice enough to lend for my recent Audi maintenance.

Today was a great day and great excuse to use my Audi to deliver equipment I borrowed and see if there would be any problems on my drive.

When I got to Botond’s place I checked my coolant and oil levels and everything was sat. The car performed splendidly and I had an enjoyable drive to and from Botond’s place today.

It is always nice to confirm everything is good after an in-depth maintenance period...

Man, you gotta stop posting these pictures, it looks too damn good. I'm going to have buy an Avant soon!

Hard part is finding the right Avant, at one time I had two 2001.5 S4 Avants (see beginning of this project thread)…. I sold the silver one because it needed far too much work and I did not want to put in the time and money to really put into this car to restore it so I sold it to a good friend of mine who was looking for a full restoration project to do... I found my rare Nogaro/Nogaro S4 Avant in California and went for it. If you find the right Avant I say go for it. They are awesome cars to own and drive ;) :thumbsup

Weather is supposed to be decent this upcoming weekend so I will be taking quality pictures using my Nikon of the Avant to post [emoji41]

The plan is to get bright yellow paint to paint out the "biturbo" lettering at the bottom and then get either black or silver paint for the Audi Rings and "V6" label. I'm leaning on getting the black. What do you think?

The engine covers that came with my Audi when I purchased them have been abused and seen lots of mileage and I suspect the good ones were swapped out just before I purchased and took delivery of this car so whatever... I decided to paint these since they weren't in great shape to see whether or not I would want to do a repeat for when I purchased new engine covers for my Audi. I think after looking at these I will be sourcing brand new engine covers so I can have them painted and then cleared.

The much desired B5 RS4 carbon fiber engine covers are just more than I want to spend on engine covers.... besides, I'm in the middle of sourcing an OEM CSL airbox for my M3 [emoji2957]

fredo, it's just a delay... a minor inconvenience. It sometimes happens when installing after-market parts. I have found a workable solution to my issue and have a contact who can "bend" the gas pedal and extention to the same arch of my OE gas pedal so I can have it properly mounted. I will have aluminum pedals mounted soon enough :)

Thanks Daniel and you're right. I'm in the process of making an off center license plate mounting bracket for my Audi so I will deal with any popo issues if they come up.

EDIT: I have been running without the front license plate just over two weeks now. This morning ran by a few Staties and was expecting them to come out to pull me over for not having front tags... so far no issues so I will take my time working on my new front tag off center mount. I kinda like running without the front tags. So much cleaner like this.

After having my Audi in New England going on two years this upcoming October, I finally purchased a proper outdoor car cover for her... It will be nice to be able to apply this car cover every time I have the car cleaned since it is stored outside...

Now that I have my ZHP set for the time being I will now shift focus of maintenance over to my Audi with the following maintenance items to address:

- Troubleshoot and fix alternator issue (alternator not charging battery)
- Valve cover gasket replacement
- Replace windshield reservoir
- Replace any bad O2 sensors
- Replace any bad EGT sensors
- Replace fuel filter
- Flush brake fluid
- Check/service brakes
- Install Vogtland coilovers (supplied)

Once this is done I can then shift my attention to another car in my collection . . . :cool

What are your overall impressions with driving this car versus your ZHP? I understand they're not the same animal, but I'd consider them competitors in a way. My only Audi experience has been with the original UrS4/UrS6, which is a totally different experience than the E36/E36M3 that was out around the same time.

I love old school Audi. My 1st car was 1986 Audi 100 TD ( 5000 model in US money-:))). I had Audi 200 avant as a project, but had to sell it. That car is Uber reliable, very rare and just fun. Not that engaging as BMW because of the heavy front end. But I still love them.
