Hey guys, its been a while since I posted on here last, but I've checked in from time to time to see whats new. I hope all is well with everyone.

A few weeks a go, I was rear ended at low speed. The repair estimate came back at $4,500, and insurance company for the guy at fault wants to call it a total loss. I have never been in an accident before, so I don't know what to expect (other than the insurance company trying to do what ever makes them a buck or saves them a buck).

There is some slight crumpling of the body inside the trunk, but the shop is only quoting 2 hours of labor to fix that.

I'm waiting to hear back from insurance on how they plan on valuing the car. Should I take it to another shop for another quote? $4500 seems like a lot to me, but again, this is my first accident.

She is a 2004 model with 142,xxx miles. In good condition overall.

Thanks,

Ed

Pretty much any damage to a frame will result in the insurance company totaling it.

Buy it back and make a track car out of it

A good body shop can put that car back on a frame machine and have it back in spec. I would argue with them not to total the vehicle.

BTW the rear bumper on your car is not correct.

Sorry about the ZSP bumper. The previous owner backed into something and had it replaced. I was thinking this would be my opportunity to get the correct bumper!

Does anyone know of sources to track down actual sale prices of cars with the performance package? The initial insurance valuation of the car did not include the ZHP package, and the adjuster didn't seem interested in verifying that the car had it. Having some numbers to throw back at them would be beneficial.

Thanks

Bring a trailer. Look up current and previous cars sold.

Nearly a year old thread... Looking for some fresh advice because I clipped someone yesterday. Worried the insurance company may total it and want to provide some comps for their review. I don't want to let go of this car because I know I'll never find its equal for the price.

I'm planning to use BAT as a reference, but I remember there was another company that sold ZHP's and can't remember the name. Anyone know the place I'm thinking of?

EDIT: Never mind - Remembered it; EAG. They sold a few ZHP's but unfortunately don't list the sale price.

Chris - you may want to try one of the car advertising rags... like Autotrader or Cargurus. I'm sure there's others. Worth a shot. I input BMW/2003-2006/sedan and then typed ZHP in the keyword field and got these. Maybe there's a relevant comp in there:
