Better Gas mileage in sport mode? (Auto Trans)

Hi Folks,

My commute is ~ 50 miles roundtrip highway and i've been noticing that if i leave my car in sport mode, i obtain 2-3 mpg better overall gas mileage.

Any ideas on what's going on here? Is something in the engine potentially worn out, i was thinking possibly vanos seals? I do have a shark injector tune and dinan auto trans tune, if that makes any difference.

Thanks.My car does better at higher rpm, maybe that has something to do with it?
