Anyone else have this issue? I can't find any information about this whatsoever. My fuel door opens way too far, making contact with the body and leaving a dent and paint chip where it makes contact. The research I did suggests a new spring for the fuel door, but as you can see from my pics, I've already tried that. The door isn't loose or anything, it just opens too far.

Any ideas?

I'd go out to my garage and look at what mine looks like but its a different type in the E93. Weird, doesn't look like anything is out of whack or shape in there.

Is the red small metal plate that is in the middle of your second pic is not supposed to have a hole for the grey spring thing to go through is it?

This guy is doing sometihing to remove the spring.

That cutout is what the spring is supposed to rest in, which mine does.
The picture you posted is what you're supposed to do to install the spring.

Is the spring mechanism supposed to prevent the door from opening too much, or give the tension so it helps keep the door shut?
Maybe you can try removing the spring to see if you understand the mechanism of the spring.

Where the door contacts on the back of the hinge, my car has black bumpers on each hinge. I assume they’re rubber because that’s the stopping point. [emoji2375]

Not sure what you mean... Could you show in a pic which ones you're referring to?

I wish I could. Dad’s got the car now. While I have the big F10D. LOL
