Thought I would ask if I'm the only one with this (or if it's a E90 thing).

While cleaning the underside of the hood, I noticed 3-4 areas with oil spray (towards the center, around the 2 side hooks near the very front of the hood).

Now, on the Audi A6 4 cyl turbo I just sold, I noticed a lot more on the side opposite the turbo, maybe near or above the oil cooler. And I could understand that.

Choices are below. Note sure if I know how to post a poll thread. Maybe the bosses can help with that in case this fails.

Is it because the hood is close to the OFHG (which is closer to the center of the engine bay in my e93 compared to my e46)?

Is it because my oil separator is not doing it's job well, or there is oil blowing in places (positive crank case sorta thing - help not sure what I'm saying or if it's even remotely possible)?

Is it because its a small tight German engine bay with a great hot running powerhouse inside that sweats oil a bit?

Not sure. I didn’t notice those spots on my 2 e90 cars (2006 330i and 2009 335i). But, I was not really looking for them.

Really? i'm the only one with this issue? Or is it that you guys are out there every weekend washing the underside of your hood and they are all prestine?

I have never washed the underside of my 08 E92 hood. But since I was just under the hood, I snapped this image. Of course only 22K miles. Is this the area you're finding oil spray?

Yes, and to the side of that near the silver square hooks.

Thanks for looking and posting a pic. My '10 E93 has no liner either. hmmmm.

Others? More data?

Thanks Pete. I thought the convertible were "special", you know, not wanting to affect the 50/50 weight distribution because of this funky roof, I don't know.

Not likely the reason for the oil spraying up there. I have cleaned it up and will keep an eye on it.

Just blown away that few seem to have this issue (its not in my e46).

well, my "special to me" E46 convertible has the insulating pad too. Is Carmax going to get you that pad? Seems like they've done you well so far!

No way. The Carmax experience is over. I had 3 months to find the bugs and fix the issues that they deemed reasonable to tackle.
Doubt they would have taken care of that to be honest.
At $70, I might do it, but if it is to keep the engine quiet, then I don't want it!

I believe the newer e9x cars didn't have the hood liner. It's possible yours never had one. :scratchinghead

Maybe, but Realoem shows it on the E93's through 10/13

Yeah Pete's right my E93 was build in December 2009. Should have had it according to realoem. Oh well. Not gonna sweat it.

But why I had this oil deposit in spots under the hood is a mystery to me.
