This was an option on the 330Ci and 330i correct? It was never standard equipment, but could be ordered with it?

You can do the swap. Out of all of the things that I "WANT" to do to my car, this is one thing that I am DYING TO DO!!! When I had my E46 M3, I freakin LOVED my SMG. LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!! Say what you will about 6MT and how awesome it is, SMG still is my favorite of the two.

Im confused, is it a unicorn... only came on clubsports (canadian?) or can only be done if swapped it.

The reason I am asking is because I just found your identical car(MasterC17) but with an SMG Transmission.

Can only be done if you do the swap. BMW did not allow customers to order the ZHP with SMG.

And that is not a ZHP.

Yeah. Lots of giveaways. No red needles on instrument cluster. No M-tech II body kit. No cube trim in the interior. Redline at 6500 instead of 6800. Split spoke steering wheel. Etc., etc.

While you were away, I posted this on the site. I refer to it about once a day:

That's odd, that car has a normal automatic brake pedal. SMG cars have the brake pedal from a manual car that is smaller....

Of course it's not, it's not 'special'. (couldn't resist). :-)

Actually, because it's not a ZHP, it might be special. :biggrin

Hmm, never noticed that before. SMG on Non-M's and SMG on M3's are different setups, not that it should have anything to do with the pedal, but...

Having driven both the M3 and 330 with SMG, as mentioned above they are not the same by any stretch. The 330 SMG was a huge disappointment and very slow to shift compared to the M3 SMG. Not recommended especially if one were to pay for a SMG swap which would be quite expansive.

Are you sure you saw 325s with SMG? I could have sworn only 330s got them.

Yes I'm sure. Driven a few too.

Test drove a 325 with SMG before I pulled the trigger on my car. I wasn't impressed, especially coming from my M3 SMG. If I were to do it, I would definitely swap in an M3 SMG, just make sure you get an SMG drive shaft as well.

I'm skipping the SMG era. and looking forward to the DCT... Now that is a proper automatic manual transmission.

I think it would be a huge project to change a 325 SMG system over to the M3 SMG system, they are completely different in every aspect (brand, transmissions, controls, etc)

When I get time I will post a write up on converting a SMG trans to 6spd manual. I did this on a manual M3 but figure the info might be of use to someone down the road and possibly anyone interested in putting a M3 transmission into their ZHP for some reason. (cheap replacement etc)

That would be great -- and much appreciated.
