Just posting a curious question to all of you. How long has the original clutch lasted in your ZHP?
I'll see if I can get the Poll feature to work.
Post up why it lasted a long time, or why you burned the crap out of your clutches?
I'll go first: Mine is at 155,800 miles and still going. Most of it's early years have been spent commuting about 25 miles to work on the highway with very minimal stop and go traffic. I've taken it on many long road trips where my ZHP could stretch it's legs too. Never did a track day, but have played Speed Racer on the streets early on. Last 10 years or so, not much driving. Work has been either within a few miles or work from home.

I've never actually seen the end of life of a clutch. I sold my last two ZHPs at around 190k on the original clutch, and an e36 before that at I think 260k. Seems I'm easy on them I guess.

I'm at 93ish or something thousand miles, no issues. I don't hear people wearing out the clutches on their E46 unless they're ridiculously harsh to them, or change it when they do a lightweight flywheel

Not a ZHP, but on my 325i sedan the clutch was replaced at 50K miles by the BMW dealership between the first and second owners.
Since then it's been running the same clutch all the way to current mileage of 413k.

My clutch is at 195k and still good. I have tracked my car, done autocross, and a whole bunch of aggressive driving.

Holy smokes! A lot of people have a ton of mileage on their clutches!!! I kinda thought I was the outlier and was anticipating having to replace it soon.
There are 1 or 2 folks on here who almost made it to 300k miles on the original clutch.
I?m at 218k on the original.

~130K and still going on the ZSP
230k miles, autox, some clutch drops (though I don't do that anymore)... still going strong. Throwout bearing does occasionally make noise but a quick jab of the clutch pedal and it's relatively quiet again

Coming up on 130K. Right as rain.

And nobody who owns one of the best iterations of an E46 would ever ever ever drop the clutch or do a burnout. Cuz? that would be irresponsible. [emoji1787]

my original ZHP sedan had 160K miles on it when i pulled the drivetrain to put in the Touring. the disc had lots of material left.
if driven correctly, a clutch should last a long, long time. with these cars, though - it's the effing DMF that is the problem. the dampers wear out/disintegrate and you get a lot of vibration... ironically. not to mention crap-feeling engagement.

DMF? All sorts of words come to mind, but nothing transmission/clutch/auto related. [emoji1787]

Dual-Mass Flywheel.
Ah! Got it.
While we?re in the topic of acronyms, I had the CDV deleted pretty early on in its life. (Clutch delay valve). According to the internets of the day, that was all the rage.
