I had a 2003 ZHP, leased in May of 2003. It was my first BMW and I foolishly didn't grasp how special that car was until I picked up my 2006 e90 in Munich.

So since then I've been through many cars (including a few BMWs) and I keep coming back to how much I loved the ZHP. Turning that car on made me smile. No car since has come close.

My current car is on lease for another 17 months but I figure it's best to keep my eyes open and decide if I'm willing to buy a fairly old car just to recapture that sensation of ultimate car-driving bliss only my old ZHP provided.

Welcome. Good taste coming back to ZHP! BTW, did someone say "special"? Inside mafia joke brkf, our cars are "not special". :-) Check out the video.

For the past 5 years I exclaim and I point out each time a ZHP passes by. My wife's reached the point where she can pick out the ZHP details too. I took this pic the day I bought the car in May 03:

Guess it wasn't "special" - it just felt and sounded so right for me. :)

Best of luck with your search!

I test drove a 2006 330i after I test drove 2 ZHPs, and that made up my mind immediately to buy the ZHP.

Welcome, what was it about he E90 that made you miss the E46? Just curious.

I had a 2006 330i and a 2007 335i. The 2006 felt quiet, serene, totally predictable at 140 on the autobahn. Essentially, it felt like my ZHP had grown up, gotten pudgy, opened a 401k and would forever eat meatloaf on Mondays. The interior was roomy, the exterior banal, the window switches in the wrong place and it just reminded me of a Lexus interpretation of a sport sedan.

The 2007 335i added speed but even more weight. The trade-up did little to make me surrender my infatuation with my departed ZHP.

An arm's length list could be written about the ways the e90 fails me, but in the end I'll leave it at this: there is no excitement for me when I see or drive one.

I drove a e9x from 2011with turbos and sports everything and liked the power. It was a big change for me with my 325i.

I agree, though, that the car was well planted, offering a neat combination of muscles and details. The suspension felt good but the direction was somehow different than usual.

It left me having fun with the power and the paddle shifts but that was it. I thought there was a lag on power transfer.

Most disappointing of all for me was the interior. The dash in particular.

Boy that sure is a consistent theme amongst many E46'ers reviews that I've seen. Good power, interior lacking.
