Howdy Mafia members!

Been lurking here for a while gathering intel for my next purchase, which just happened sooner rather than later as it turns out!

I got a PPI done on an '04 330i ZHP 6MT this morning and shook on a deal shortly thereafter. I should pick it up tomorrow. It popped up on a lot in town as a 1-owner trade-in and I saw it on the way home late last week. I checked on it but left town for the weekend, and planned to drive it the following Monday. Someone tried to buy it on Monday, but fortunately for me their financing fell through, so I got another crack at it!

The skinny... '04 Mystic Blue Metallic, grey leather with heated seats, fold-down/pass-thru rear seats, HK premium sound. 104,000 miles with some dealer records and a solid PPI inspection for $12k. No accidents on record or visually detectable. It is mechanically very sound, but has some minor cosmetic nits that I'll address but I'm very happy with the deal. The tires are done and the wheels have been curbed so I'll either refinish the wheels when replacing the rubber or just get a new wheel/tire combo and refinish the OEMs later and put some winter tires on them. The headlight lenses need to be replaced (or upgraded!) and the front valence needs a re-spray, and that is about it.

I'm open for suggestions on wheels (and tires)! Orient Blue with black window trim...I'm thinking a black wheel with polished lip might look good but have never seen such a combo in the flesh. I plan to ad an ipod adapter immediately too, so suggestions for the favorite one of the Mafia would be welcome too.

My other BMW toys are a '99 K1200RS motorcycle that I've had since 2002 and a 1988 M6 that will be for sale shortly. It is a pristine car that is an excellent part-time daily driver but it is time for someone else to enjoy her. I'll get some pics of the family together before she leaves, though!

Welcome to the mob! Good to see another Kansan; I'm originally from Salina & my first assignment was at McConnell.

For tires, the consensus is that it's tough to beat Michelin PS2s (or PSSs), but Continental DWs & DWSs are great bang-for-buck tires.

As for iPod input, I'd recommend DIYing an aux-in input to your stock headunit (guides abound, just search) if you like the cheap & easy route (without steering wheel controls, though); a Dice or SpecUSA kit otherwise.

Obligatory "in for pics" cry, especially of that M6!! :roundel

Hello and welcome!

Do you happen to have some maintenance history on it? At 104k, you are about due for some cooling system PM.

Looking forward to hearing and seeing more!

Welcome. Congrats on moving beyond lurker status. :) +1 Dice or USA-Spec for Ipod. I have Dice and it works fine, the cable charges and connects in the bottom of the ipod (not sure what that connection is called). As for wheels, so many to choose from... a lot depends on your budget. Tire rack (site affiliate) has a nice tool where you can choose your car and the wheel, and it will display it for you. The combo you mentioned sounds nice.

Welcome! I was just in Wichita a few weeks ago checking out an E46 M3 and was pleasantly surprised on how nice Wichita is.

We need pictures of all your toys. :)

Thanks all! Pics will be forthcoming as soon as I can get her home and posed to hide the sub-par front end (for now). I just did some searching (should've done it first) and will likely go with the USA-Spec option. I just put a similar unit in the g/f's Explorer and it works great with her iPad. Eventually I might upgrade amps and speakers, but I'm also buying a new house (and furniture, washer/dryer, etc.) right now and can't put much into the ZHP until I move the M6 on to the next caretaker.

I do have some MX history from the local dealer, but I have no way to know if that is all of it or not. I will likely go thru her as soon as I have time and change spark plugs, filters and all fluids just to baseline it for my ownership period. The Bentley manual and some other goodies will be ordered this weekend too as I'm not afraid of wrenching. Tires (and maybe wheels) + alignment will be first on the list, though.

I run Michelins on my pickup (95,000 miles on the first set of LTX A/T!) and just got my first set on the bike (Pilot Road 2) and like those, so PS2s might be an easy choice for the car.

I forgot to mention in my first post that I converted a girlfriend (at the time) to a ZHP-lover! She wanted to upgrade rides and I convinced her to look at BMWs, not knowing she was a closet driving enthusiast. :) There were two ZHPs on the BMW used lot at the time (2007) and she scared the crap out of me on the first test drive! She ended up going for the 6MT version vs. the auto much to my surprise, and loved the car. She wrecked it in some bad weather (hydroplaning) a couple years later, and then found another in CA and went and got it.

Marcus, no can do, I'm afraid! She has been an ex-girlfriend since later in 2007 and is now married to someone else. She is still enjoying ZHP #2 as far as I know, though.

Thanks for creating this site, BTW!

There have been some upgrades at the position, so all is good on my end! :P We are still friendly, though, and I am sure she'll be pleased to see me with a ZHP.

welcome!! good to see another from the midwest join the fray here.....
you've found a great place - good folks here!

as to tires - I've been beyond happy with the General Exclaim UHP's on my ZHP right now.
I've also run nearly everything Bridgestone has ever offered; and have always been happy. I use a set of RE760 Sports as my wet set at the track.
Dunlop Direzzas also have had great reviews from my friends.....

There's plenty of options for aux inputs, etc. I went the Dice Mediabridge route and couldn't be happier. It provides aux input, USB/iPod input, bluetooth, and satellite radio if you want it. All components are controlled via factory controls; display occurs on the factory equipment and the steering wheel controls. It's awesome. The bluetooth even works with voice control.
