Did you ever notice...

Did you ever notice that the paint color in the engine bay is a bit different than the actual paint color of your car. I've noticed this on all four BMWs I've owned. At first I thought I had been duped by the PO and that the car had been repainted. However, after some research I found out a few interesting things:

1. People have reported a totally different color and discovered that the paint order had been changed while the car was being produced so the engine bay stayed the different color.
2. The engine bay is usually only sprayed with the flat paint of the particular color without metallics, pearls etc. Also, no clear coat in the engine bay which makes the color appear off. In particular, my orient blue ZHP's engine bay looks lighter than the rest of the car.

Anybody else notice this?

A while ago I read about a guy that had a black e46 and blue engine bay. The sticker in the shock strut said schwartze. The guy showed pics and was orig owner.

Mine's Imola II without the clearcoat. Looks normal to me. :dunno

There is a bit of difference with mine, too. With my Alpine White E36, you could really tell.

I've noticed that too on my bimmers
and the color is the same but only a flat paint, (no clear coat).... I think

My old E30 never had the cosmoline cleaned off the engine bay after its shipment ......it was horrible to remove 20 years later.
