Anyone available in Florida (Ft. Lauderdale area) to check this out?

http://www.subaruofpembrokepines.com/used/BMW/2004-BMW-330i-82a9d9cc0a0a00640db096148dd403da.htm

I've already spoken with the sales manager there and have details sorted out, but just can't quite pull the trigger without having someone who knows the product check it out.

Many thanks!
We have a few members that live down that way, but I know one is out of town for a few more weeks. Another option for a PPI is to contact one of these shops: http://www.bimmershops.com/search?q=fort+lauderdale Hope it checks out for you.

Sadly I am insanely busy until next month or else I would go check it out for you.

Maybe try sending Jon D a pm and see if he is available.

Will the manager pay to have a $200/$250 PPI performed at an Indy or at BMW?

Thanks all for the quick responses. With only 70k miles, seems like a gem if it checks out.

Agree, though some common failure items should have been taken care of already.

BTW, most of the indy shops I've checked with charge ~$100 for PPI. Dealers more.

I'm traveling till Thursday but could look after that, I have all my work done at Autobahn Performance in Oakland Park they know BMWs and are fair. Talk to Bob or Jason and they can go thru it in detail.

Jon D - thanks so much for the offer to check the car out.

After giving it some additional thought, I think I'm going to continue the search for a convertible or coupe. I currently have an '04 330ci 'vert that I really like. It has "sport" but not the ZHP, and it's an automatic. I also have a 335xi that's an m-sport, manual.

After recently buying a practical larger sedan for family duties, I kinda want to "combine" the 335xi and the 330ci - so am targeting a manual trannie ZHP, and think I'd rather have a 'vert or coupe.

Thanks again for the offer - who knows, may end up taking you up on it for another car if one comes up.

You could try Black Forest Werkshop in Austin. My buddies brother owns it and has offered a bunch of solid advice over the phone in the past years. They offer PPI's if the owner will work with you to get it there. Good luck.

That might not be exactly what I need, but that's exactly what I want.

Or, the reverse!

Or ... something, but ... really, thank you!

An top-notch, independent 3pi might just be exactly the thing that I need at this moment.

Hey all!

I've been looking for a ZHP for a bit and really like this one:

http://www.777auto.com/detail.aspx?id=3895747&PrefID=4642&.aspx

I'm about 3.5 hours from there, so checking it out won't be too easy, so I was wondering if anyone in the Boston/south shore area could help.

Also, despite there being a car fax, I'm not sure, nor was the dealer, about any coolant system history(the e46 ticking time bomb). Should I be concerned at that mileage? Any incite on the deal would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I would if I were home! Bit of a trek from school though. They have had a few zhps listed there in the past. Mileage is not worrying, eventually the cooling will need to be done anyway (unless it was already)

I would be concerned about the headlight projectors. They appear aftermarket (poor quality). It may also indicate past front end damage.

Another option is a PPI from a reputable shop. Try this: http://www.bimmershops.com/search?q=92270

Usually runs $100-250 depending on how deep they go.

I'm almost positive the PPI is going to be done Sunday in Brentwood. I don't know if that is closer to you or not. The seller works 2nd shift 2pm-11pm so it might be hard to get a chance to look at it. I have his contact info if you'd like. I've never gone about this so I'm a rookie at how to plan it out. For the Seattle one it had front end damage to cause the salvage title, I'd like someone in the area to check it out and verify its looking good, as well as the Brembo brakes.
The one in Arkansas I'd like to get eyes on, it looks like there is something up with the front end, fogs are missing.
Is like both to be driven to get an idea of clutch life, I don't want to fly halfway across the country and have a bum clutch for the drive back.

He should be able to get a temp or trip permit or something. I wouldn't worry about someone snatching it. Unless someone just pops up cash in hand and buys it as-is...Which is unlikely and if it does happen, I would move on and wait till one feels right and do the due diligence.

Well I still haven't heard back from the owner, emailed him again asking how it was going with getting a tag, no response. I'm guessing he doesn't want to do a PPI and that would make the car a no go for me, absolutely no way I'm buying a car without a PPI unless a trusted ZHPMafia member checks out the car and gives it their seal of approval.

Good thinking. Yeah, some people with these get turned off when you start asking questions and wanting them inspected. Either they don't know what they have so they don't expect the level of interest/knowledge from prospective buyers or they want a quick sale for whatever reason. That's why it's definitely worth the patience to find one where the owner is cooperative and down to earth as far as the buying experience is concerned. Unfortunately, you may end up paying more since they know what they have, but I think that's worth it.

Yeah i get that from non enthusiast owners who don't really know about this stuff, but this guy knew what a PPI was and said he was cool to get one done (he also had a E36 M3 before) its just that he used the no tag excuse.

Yep noticed that too, i was going to ask if those pics were recent or from when he first got the car. He says he has 4 other cars (VWs) and that this was his wife's car...but i dont see why she would stop driving a BMW to drive an old VW? Doesn't add up, so yeah i think i might just skip this one and start looking into BoostedZHP's old VF supercharged IR sedan.

Plenty of m3 owners,911's, 6 zhp owners and exotics as well as classics in Harrisonburg. Plus then you get all your jmu college i kids with their parents disposable money.

Anyway set something up and I can look at the car. It's local to me.

Any NJ guys willing to take a look for me?? I've asked him where in NJ it is, and yet to hear back, but wanted to see what members might be able to help out. It looks great in the pics, but a 100% northern life worries me a bit. He says he doesn't drive it in inclement weather, but he purchased from an NJ BMW dealer...so it's likely done some winter driving. Would love a good look over for the usual suspects withe these cars and particular interest in what the undercarriage looks like and if there are signs of rust. Thanks fellas!

Agreed! I'd just want some independent eyes on it before I'd drop the $$ on a PPI.

Thanks for the offer. Here is the car:

I have traded quite a few emails with a salesman at the dealer. I am not too impressed by him. He supplied me with a PPI done at a local BMW dealer and it was barely more than the report you get when returning a rental!

that's a gorgeous car, but I would contact an Indy to get a proper PPI done. The investment is nothing on the price of the car...just have to be willing to potentially lose the car to a buyer who takes the risk...

I had the same car but in Monaco Blue. Really regret selling it. I have contacted an indy in that area. They were ready to do the PPI if the car was brought to them. The seller said they were too far. I may call the indy again and see how much for them to travel...

I contacted Bavarian Performance Group. Great feedback in some forums and after speaking with Dave for only a few minutes I can see why. They were deemed too far by the seller and they only do PPis at their shop. Dave gave me the number of Boston Motorwerks. They're closer but they don't do PPIs.

That's what I'm thinking. It is looking like, while keeping 3+k in a repair fund, this could be a great plunge into BMW/ZHP land. Just want to make sure it's been taken care of, and maybe has had some of the regular needs taken care of. Then, but some dedicated winter tires and rims, and giddy up!

Chris,
Depending upon the planned pickup date (weekends work better), you & I can knock out the w/p and FCABs at my house in relatively short order. Shawn & I did a set of FCABs in 1 hour 15 minutes but that included cleaning the oil out of my eye when the one decent bushing decided to pop.

I looked at a ZHP at that dealer once for Dane, I can almost guarantee you that this specific car has had a recent accident that is not listed on a CarFax report. This dealer's modus operandi is he buys them with some damage, accomplishes the bodywork/repair/repaint, and then tries to sell them without disclosing the accident repair. There will also likely be no maintenance history accompanying the car as he tosses out any paperwork that might allow you to trace the car's history to a previous owner. And the last one I looked at at this dealer, the body & paint work was noticeable (sand marks) and the interior of the car reeked of fresh paint.

You still want someone to check it out? This dealer is in a non-desireable part of town -- think used tire dealers, seedy used car dealers, etc.

Hopefully it was just an honest mistake while trying to protect other folks.

I ended up buying the car in this craiglist ad. It was NOT the car that Reggie's shop inspected. I contacted Reggie's before I purchased and asked them if the VIN of the car in the ad, matched the car they inspected, and they confirmed it was a different car.

Hi Dane,

Totally understand and agree. I shouldn't have phrased it that way. On the other hand, how do we as a family deal with people spreading misinformation in multiple threads?

Thanks

If you know the information is false, politely say so, then back it up with the correct info. Thanks for understanding.
