I like number three best as well (of the long exposure shots). However, it looks like you got a little camera shake. I'd like to see that crisper. Additionally, I like number three better because there is more context in the shot. Shots one and two are too tight for my tastes.

Love your fam pic. Try changing the aperture and getting some of that background out of focus for an even dreamier shot.

That was my thoughts too. I didn't like how in focus the background was, didn't know it was an Aperture thing! I will def mess with those settings next time.

I agree, 3 is my pick too. My grandpa lent me a remote with the camera, I may have to bring/use that next time.

Thanks for all the feedback! Very much appreciated.

I'm on board with everyone on number 3. It is more inviting and makes me want to come into the water. The context gives it life rather than just looking at a pretty waterfall.

I've actually seen a Camel Tow truck, but it was down in Florida... I wonder if its one big business or if there are multiples of the same name... I don't recall the logo or the witty saying at the bottom, but I know for sure I saw it...

Florida has some weird businesses. I remember my dad pointing out a movie rental store called GREAT FLICKS but the signage was poorly done and the L and I were smoothed together and became what looked like a U.

I'll give some C&C

The shallow depth of field doesn't work well in this shot. It creates a plane of focus in the grass that draws you're eyes across but there is no strong focus point within it.

The focus is also from about where his nose is and forward where it should have been from the nose backwards. This would have gotten his eyes and more of his head in sharp focus instead of making that plane of in focus grass.

Just my .02

Shallow depth of field makes sense.

I put my focus right on the eye. Perhaps I should of put it on the forehead to compensate.

Big Game Huh???? I've been wanting to try to get some shots of the Elk in the area, but I've heard it's a fiasco over there when they come out to graze(tons of people watching them). I'd love to find some fox or Bobcat, but the difficulty level of getting close to those animals is rather immense. That's why those guys that film for Nat Geo make the money! I'll see what I can do though.

Did you use a Graduated ND filter on that one?

I don't live anywhere near a camera shop so, I wasn't able to find one. However; I did find the "graduated Filter" tool in Lightroom 4 and did it all in post processing my RAW images.

Thanks for the help Kyle.

I typically don't comment on photos but did want to comment on this one.

Guy, from a compositional standpoint, I would have loved if the boat was actually not exiting the photo on the left edge. Instead, I would have preferred a boat that still has some way to travel through the photo -- and preferably at a place that would lead me through the photo. Here, the boat actually runs me right off the page -- and quickly. If you turned the boat around in this photo, and put it at about 1/4 from the left (heading upward), that would have been a winning composition. Of course, I know you have to deal with what you have, so it is what it is. But if you had to do it this way, I would have waited for the boat to leave the frame altogether and just allowed the white wash to carry me through and up into the photo.

In the future, look for opportunities to use a subject, like this boat, that will drive your viewer right through the image.

Thanks for your thoughts Mark, I need that kind of feedback to improve and from a pro like you, it has tremendous value. And yes I did capture those two pictures but, due to timing they didn't turn out as the perfect capture. Also, this picture wasn't planned or setup for, it was just a knee jerk reaction while I was in the right place at the right time.

Thanks again,

-guy-

A little to early, needed to capture between the shadows of the trees and the shadow of the clouds.

Guy, I am not sure if you were able to do this, but could you get lower? Were you able to lay on your stomach to capture this area? Would be curious to see what those ripples looked like from that vantage point.

Original looks good to me for an "in the moment" type of shot. A few cropping tweaks could make it stronger.

If it was a set up shot then yes I would have carried it out differently like mark suggested.

I'm with Seth, obviously. It was what you had to work with.

That said, assuming that's near you, you can always go back and wait for someone to use a route that you're looking for. I just wouldn't post a photo until I'm pleased with the conclusion.
