View Full Version : Another Potential ZHP for the Corral

So I drove another ZHP today, if it didn't bite me, it at least nibbled hard. And here's what I noticed, trying to justify the asking price in my mind:

- right front fender replaced, door & front bumper repainted, blended into A-pillar and quarter panel -- poor blending, some fish eyes, I would probably have it redone (I'm anal & my buddy owns a body shop)
- hood original, lots of road rash and should be repainted (same as above)
- VCG leaking, lots of smoking after a spirited test drive (I know how to replace that)
- rear tires are shot
- 2 of 4 wheels need to be refinished
- FCABs and RTABs included in sale, both are borderline on needing replacement right now
- center console vents messed up, need to be replaced
- Interior dirty but in good shape
- minor scrapes on body that should buff out
- rear view mirror is screwed up, needs to be replaced
- 5 type 135 wheels included, 2 are messed up (I have 2 extras)

It drove very tight and accelerated & braked as it should. No 4K stutter, no VANOS noices, nothing out of the ordinary. Brake pads are fine, mechanically everything checked out. It badly needs a thorough detailing, inside and out. It had 45K miles in Sept 2009, now just topped 100K due to a 100+ mile per day commute. The current owner is an occasional Summit Point BMW racer (not with this car), mechanically he's taken care of it, but his "good" cosmetically and mine differ.

Mystic blue with gray leather, perforated leather steering wheel, 6 speed, heated seats, no NAV, no 6-CD player.

I made an offer, he refused it, what do you think its worth?

Wow, my car looks like a bargain next to that thing.

Thanks for being my sounding board (the wife sure isn't, she's developing ZHP-aphobia). After the dance, he offered $12.6K, I'm considering it.

Right on the money. With that description it will be tough for him to get anything above $15K

EDIT: When I bought my car it had less mileage with about the same amount of cosmetic issues. I paid $13.6K

Eli,
I really like yours but I want a coupe.

What year is it? Did I miss that? Even it's a 2005, no more than $12k. Lots of miles and it has issues. $12.6k isn't bad I suppose but I wouldn't pay that.

So you'll have 2 ZHP's then?

Woah. Why do you keep selling them if you end up just getting another?

I'd never be able to do that to mine.. too much time and monies put into mine

I do what I'm going to do, get them all sorted out, then get bored when there's nothing more I want to do. Other than the family-mobile (normally keep that one for a while), I 've never kept a vehicle more than 2 years, many only matter of months. I stopped counting how many it's been about ten years ago when I topped 150 different vehicles.

150!?!!?! You're a mad man!

You must lose so much money!

I've tracked it all, I'm doing okay on the balance sheet. And always hand all profits over to the wife, which keeps her happy with my hobby. Buy low and sell high, there's money to be made in cars.

I personally wouldn't offer more than 12k, and that's on the high side. There have been stories here of people buying ZHPs for dirt cheap (around 11k) that needed a lot less work than this one seems to need. :dunno

+1. Nailed it right on the head. Got mine for 11K. 90% of the after-purchase work that was done was mostly maintenance that needed to be done due to its mileage....and of course, upgrades.

Can this one be a racecar?

BP & Lawrence,
I'm in that neighborhood with my offer. He's not in a hurry to sell, so I'll wait. He needs to liquidate some things due to a divorce. He already sold his E36 race car and had a sweet red E30 coupe in the garage that he's contemplating selling. He lives 75 miles outside of the DC metro area, not exactly a thriving BMW market out there.

Justin,
I'm too old for racing, the reflexes aren't quite as quick as they used to be.

Oh, I get it, build it 'till I get bored and then you'll swoop in. Yeah, go ahead and make your wish list, have Santa drop it off to me. And if he should forget, then give it to the Tooth Fairy, she still stops by my house too.

I like when Bruce is car shopping, because when he finds one up here, I get to go test drive ZHPs. :keith

For some reason these ZHP wheels are badly prone to being damaged by their original owner. My ZHP needed all 4 wheels to be refinished!
