It's amazing how in the pic our cars look clean, when in fact they were both dirty.

I received my replacement shocks for my ZHP the other day only to find out they are the "improved" version which comes with the 52mm diameter bodies which are much more durable than the previous versions. I ordered the new lower mounts and rings to be used with the new shocks but have to wait an additional 3 weeks before they come available. Anyway it's been two weeks now since I have driven my poor ZHP so I took her out today to Applebees to have lunch with Botond before he headed back home. He was able to sort out his front BBK issue and now everything is A-Okay :thumbsup Here is a picture Botond took of both our cars sporting BBS CH shoes. :)

good looking cars gents.

Thanks! :thumbsup

If you want a bullet proof rear shock mount, look into these two options. Much better then an OEM M3 mount that is rubber and will fail over time.

Vas, I think I will go with the akg mount when funds allow. Right now I have OEM M3 rear shock mounts on hand so I will use them for the time being. By June, I will source the aka mounts and do the swap. It will be very easy :thumbsup Thanks for the suggestion!

That's why when you have some distance it is always good to take a pic. The pic you took BP turned out awesome!

I used Lightroom 5 and did add just a little color and made the clouds just a tad darker. The overall effect looked stunning. Glad everyone likes the pic. You couldn't have taken a better picture of our ZHP's together like this Botond :thumbsup

It's always amazing to see thru a clear unpitted windshield. I mounted the rain sensor so all I got left now is to route the wiring to make all the necessary connections to retrofit auto headlights/rain sensor in my 2003 ZHP :)

salt and sand over time is my guess. The roads up here in New England, especially Rhode Island is rough during winters. When I got a crack in my windshield, it was time to replace it.

dope! I stopped posting my updates to E46F a long time ago.

Since I knew I wouldn't be updating either project threads over there I cleaned up my threads, then asked the moderators to lock them. If you look, you will see both project threads have been locked. I didn't want to have my mod list viewable so where I could, I just deleted my mod listings. Now everything is here in this forum as it should be.

I didn't like the changes and with recent BS activities over there I just threw in the towel and decided not to participate like I used to. Get a few jerks in a forum and it get's ruined....the decision was easy from this point going forward. Also, having one forum in which I can constantly update my project threads is much easier then keeping track of 4 different project threads over multiple forums which is what I have been doing. I would rather limit the project thread updates to two :)

I know what BP is already thinking....

In the ///M I'm currently running 18" ARC8's and my ZHP has 19" BBS CH wheels. I do have the 1" lowering springs installed on my front coilovers on the ///M from BC Racing though. The current ride height of the ///M is perfect if you ask me. I won't go any lower.

I forgot to order shock boots and bump stops when I placed my order for my BC Racing replacement shocks so I ordered them today and was told that the remaining parts are at customs this week and that my parts should ship by mid week next week and arrive hopefully by the weekend. We'll see, if anything the remaining parts should arrive the week I leave for Hawaii...hopefully I will have time to swap out my shocks before the trip.

One word comes to mind right now....... anticipation.....

cakM3
05-20-2015, 06:06 AM
The rest of the parts needed to mount my new rear shocks to my ZHP have been shipped and should arrive sometime this week. This means I will be able to swap out my blown rear shocks and restore road-worthiness back to my ZHP and resume daily driving duties. Soon I will order the swift spring upgrade and swap out springs but that is in the plan for my 2015 maintenance. I still have the following I want to accomplish before resuming long-distance road trip duties...

- Transmission/Diff fluid flush
- Order a new set of rear tires (just to keep my setup completely fresh)
- Repair/replace pork chops on both driver's and passenger's side
- Replace/repair broken sensor (hockey puck type) on passenger's side behind front bumper

Future maintenance/mods that don't affect my taking the ZHP for long-distance road trips:
- Swift Spring upgrade
- 135i rear caliper upgrade
- Install my CSL bootlid
- Frank Smith tune

Can't wait for updates on the shocks after install. I am going to need to replace my rear shocks soon, so I was thinking of just picking up a set of coilovers at that time. I am thinking about either KW or ST Street coilovers, but there are so many options. I have to do more research.

Okay worn tires not yet replaced...I tried this afternoon but the lift that was available couldn't accommodate low ride height cars like mine.... so I have been rescheduled for the tire change this Tuesday morning at 0800 so I drove back home and washed my ZHP instead. The rest of the weekend will be spent detailing the ZHP as it's in need of this :) Still... nice to have my ZHP back again :thumbsup

I spent the day compounding, sealing, waxing my ZHP. Got my bootlid, driver's side front and rear fenders, and driver's side doors done as well as the roof. It doesn't get easier as we get older, that's for sure! Right now I'm exhausted but damn my ZHP is starting to look like her old self again! ;) I plan to finish detailing her tomorrow so I can get some nice pics while the day is good.... front bumper has been cleaned so there's no more ratty Arqray lip to detract from the overall cleanliness of my daily driver... I have a few things up my sleeve in the upcoming months for both cars so we'll see what happens ;) Shame I won't be there at this year's reunion meet. :(

Thanks guys! :thumbsup

There are many different brands of Angel Eyes out there... I went for what I consider the best money can buy. I got the Umnitza Orion V4's and have been very pleased with them. I initially had an issue with my passenger angel eyes due to a faulty white connector box so I contacted Umnitza and they sent a replacement connector box without any issues whatsoever. I was impressed by their solid customer service and would recommend them wholeheartedly. You can't go wrong using them but be advised that they are pricy but in my opinion well worth the cost :thumbsup

The next immediate mod for the ZHP will be lumbar equipped heated front seats I will be sourcing from Peter :thumbsup Seems my schedule or my ZHP have been preventing me from coming up to meet up with Peter to purchase his seats.... well, summer is now here and we will be meeting up within the next two weekends :) This will happen and I look forward to having lumbar support once again in my ZHP.... it's been nice having it in my ///M but I need this in my daily driver as well :biggrin

I will also be resurfacing my ZKW headlight lens soon and then applying protectant film to keep the lens looking good... :thumbsup

I need to look at doing the following this summer:
- rust proof the rear passenger fender
- address the broken front passenger's side sensor
- repair/replace the under panels behind the front bumper
- get a new hockey puck style sensor to replace the missing one on the front passenger side under panel
- transmission oil change
- diff oil change

upcoming maintenance/mods
- 135i rear caliper upgrade
- Performance cross-drilled M3 rear rotors
- new steel braided brake lines for the new rear brake setup

Take a metal brush like the ones I have in my garage and clean up the rust area just a bit, then apply this to the bare metal/rust...

Don't apply a thick coat but a coat that covers the entire metal area that was rusted, allow to dry and then apply Imola paint...

The police were out in force today...even had an interesting, if not an odd encounter, with a NY State Trooper on my way home. Odd thing was that I had my cruise control set at the posted speed limit of 65mph and was just chillin on the right hand (slo traffic) lane....I'm just glad to be home...

I think as the police cruiser was driving on the overpass the patrol officer noticed the sexy Imola ZHP on the highway and decided to check it out. I could see her coming up on me (KA band radar alerting from behind on my V1) as I remained in the right lane doing a steady 65mph. As she drove by she slowed as she looked my ZHP over...must have been the ZHPMafia sticker that caught her attention as she slowed to 40 so I did the same since I didn't have a clue what she was up to. Then I decided to proceed on my journey back since I wasn't doing anything wrong to begin with. She proceeded to the center median where she set up her next speed trap.

I think she was just attracted to the shiny Imola ZHP that she was checking out ;)

That's one place I decided I will avoid putting carbon fiber on for now. Perhaps I might get the lower steering wheel trim in the future but I haven't warmed up to this just yet ;)

So to answer your question, no I don't have the carbon fiber steering wheel trim.

Today I erased the source of the irratating knock in the rear I have been putting up with for a few weeks... failing rear shock mounts. :/

Last weekend BP rode up with me when I got Peter's old ZHP seats and quickly diagnosed failed rear shock mounts. Well today I had plenty of time to work on my ZHP so I took advantage of this "extra" time and swapped out my rear shock mounts for OEM M3 ones.

http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/06/18/77774e246a7bee326c071d4a90189133.jpg

They fit perfectly on my BC Racing shocks, so I was happy :) The swap and install itself is relatively easy...the whole job was time consuming but I got it done working at a geratric pace ;) Nice and slow....

Took the car out for a test drive afterwards on my roughly patched up street and the car was perfectly quiet! Needless to say, I'm a happy camper tonight ;) You can see the old BC Racing rear shock mounts in the pic on the lower right corner....

Rob, they were the original BC Racing rear shock mounts that came with my coilover kit. For some reason they failed so I went with OEM M3 rear shock mounts. I felt the M3 shock mounts are more durable than the BC Racing ones were. We'll see...

The source of the knocking noises I have been experiencing have been driving me nuts so when I drove into work today, everything was quiet as it should be. :) In fact, I kept the volume of my stereo way down just so I could enjoy the new found quietness in my ZHP while I was driving ;)

So I get a shitty call from a high school friend of mine today and afterwards I decided to focus my attention on my ZHP. I took care of the loose, torn wiring from the broken temp sensor (hockey puck type) from the front passenger corner by sealing the wires with liquid electrical tape then zip tying it to my fog lighting wires for now (temp solution) then I replaced my front fog enclosures. The old enclosures were corroded and one of the lens was cracked so I used the spares I have packed in my garage to replace the worn out ones...

As much as I love the MTEC II bumper Sean, I will be adding a CSL bootlid for sedan soon and the M3 rep front bumper will go more with what I'm doing....

Tying both cars together in styling cues...

Front bumper will need replacement because it got damaged by the previous owner so I'm going for a different, more aggressive look for my ZHP...

Problem Vas is that the OE M3 bumper is too wide for sedan fitment. It won't look right w/o doing more modification to the sedan. The M3 rep bumpers sold for sedan fitment however fits perfectly.

I replaced my power steering pump late last year with a replacement part (same manufacturer) but not OEM. More like OEM replacement with the intention of getting to this with the right OEM part when weather improved. I'm at that point of getting back to this so more a maintenance-related item for me. anyway... as I finished dressing up my ///M I decided that the ZHP needed some of the detailing action so I dressed up it's wheels as well...I have to say, doing 18" tires are easier to dress up compared to low profile 19"s...

Same. Drove me nuts. Loved the mount, though.

There's a nut right next to where the trim post goes in. The mount is attached at the nut so you tighten the nut really tight to get the mount to seat into the dash material.

20970

Then when you insert the trim pieces, they will all set in just as they should like shown in the pic below. In the past, I have been using the trim post to mount my Bimmian mount instead of the nut which is why my trim never set in right. Once I used the right mounting point for my mount, I never had those issues... :thumbsup

Looks like I will be replacing a window regulator on my driver's side front door soon. The "creaking" sound associated with failing window regulators just started yesterday and is still there today..... ugh....

Mine has been creaking since I bought the car 5 years ago. Still works.

They creak, get slow, then stop working fully to the point where you have to pull the window up manually.

They've been slow as well for years. Not sure why they haven't died yet, but hearing the creak isn't exactly a sign of imminent failure. Considering all these die eventually, I'd just have a couple of spares ready to go and just let them die on their own. "Get your money's worth!"

This is what I'm doing. Been creaking for about 6 months. Slow as a turtle, but still works damnit!

Nice to know but I will get a new window regulator nevertheless and as you all recommend....allow this one to die first. :thumbsup

Sorry to disappoint Daniel. :( I got detoured last month. Ended up snagging a new 15" rMBP from a very good friend of mine so I got that instead of getting my CSL bootlid painted. Perhaps in Sept/Oct I will get the bootlid painted then installed....all depends on whether or not I have a job after September....

Its all good Charlie! Thanks for the update though! I am trying to source out the rear calipers as well. I really love the look and want the complete set. =D

Keep on grinding there and best of luck with everything.

Thanks Daniel :) I will eventually complete my BMW Performance BBKs on the ZHP....

Yes ECS Tuning does sell the BMW Performance 135i rear calipers. You have to select the 135i as your car in order to order the brake calipers.

When Daniel mentioned sourcing them out I didn't know if he knew they sold them..........unless he's going a different route (used).

Not sure which way Daniel will go but I will be buying my calipers brand new when that time comes.... I have to put the brakes on (see what I did??) regarding purchasing anything for the time being until I know my job situation....it is what it is....

Didn't know they were the same on the 135, what other parts can be put on these cars from different models? Is there a thread somewhere that has a list of items that can be swapped?

no, not that I'm aware of. I only know about this from a post I saw on e46Fanatics. Since I already have the BMW Performance BBK (front 135i 6-pot calipers) installed on my ZHP, I was hoping there was a solution to install the 135i rear calipers to complete the BBK setup ;)

If you're looking for used ones sourced from a 135, they will all be gray...

That is correct Rob. I will be sourcing my Performance 135i rear calipers from ECS Tuning :thumbsup

The 135i brake project sounds real interesting. So you're going to go with the yellow BMW performance calipers front and rear, and are you going to be using the M3 rear rotors to get those rear calipers to mount up properly?

I wasn't planning to do this initially but after Derek showed me that this is possible, I'm back to placing 135i rear calipers as one of my future mods for my ZHP :) Doing this will complete my Performance Brake BBK upgrade since I already have the BMW Performance front calipers installed. It only makes sense to me :thumbsup

Things I will need to make this mod happen are:

-A set of BMW performance rear calipers (or 135i rear calipers) - will source from ECS Tuning
-A set of e46 M3 rear Performance cross-drilled rotors - will source BMW Performance rotors from ECS Tuning
-A set of brake lines that are slightly longer than the standard rear ones

I know Charlie... that was for the other guys. I didn't know if they knew that...
Gotcha Rob! :thumbsup
