In a few weeks I plan to order the following to pursue my 135i Performance BBK retrofit for my ZHP...

Calipers:

M3 Performance Rear Rotors:

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1493/25585334574_daca9eed68_b.jpg

Then reordering new longer length stainless steel brake lines to accommodate the new 135i rear Performance calipers...

possibly reordering new parking brake components while I'm already there... then I will soon be completing and detailing the install process for this final Performance BBK upgrade...

yes... I will have plenty of pictures to help document how I will be doing this install :thumbsup

Ray, once I get my payout from my current company and it's reflected into my bank account, I will give you a heads up just before ordering the necessary parts to accomplish this retrofit. I realized that I initially brought this up back in post #1663 about two years ago so this retrofit is long overdue...

I know there are several members here who have been waiting patiently for me to get off my butt and get this done! Yeah, I'm up for a two-fer if you want to do this as well :) :thumbsup

@ Daniel... maybe I should take my ZHP to Canada in May if I get all of this done before Botond's trip... then you can see the CSL bootlid and Performance BBK together with my BBS CH wheels ;)

I would imagine you need to use the M3 shoes if you are using the M3 rotor since the rotor hat/hub area is deeper than a 330i one. (at least I noticed that when I swapped rear ends)

for sure any issues I may or may not run into will be documented in this retrofit :thumbsup

I'm glad that the work I have done to my ZHP has actually helped you to do the OEM M3 side mirror retrofit :thumbsup Having installed an OEM CSL bootlid on my M3, I can say doing so it a fairly easy process. The hardest part of the install is to align the bootlid so the lights on the bootlid align with the tail lights. Daytona Violet from M3 Forum has an awesome CSL Bootlid DIY which is what I used when I installed mine. :)

Once I start my 135i rear caliper retrofit I will be sure to detail how to do this retrofit. :) Keep an eye out for it :thumbsup

There will be some gluing yes... key can be reprogrammed, this is a simple process :thumbsup End result will be a fully restored key with fresh rechargeable battery. Better than having to buy a new key from BMW (remember you only have a limit of 10 keys for your car)...my ZHP, for some reason, is on key# 5 out of 10 allotted to it...

I think Botond recommended disabling the keys not in our possession as an added security step. Though i think it would be rare for someone to hang onto or find a key and snatch the car.

Jeff, why pay $250 for a new key when you can just replace the old worn battery with a brand new rechargeable battery I had linked in my thread? Unless you don't feel comfortable doing soldering repairs I can see why you would consider just getting a new key instead.

I have taken several diamond style keys apart and it's a fairly easy and straightforward process. There are two points where you will de-solder the old battery and solder the new one. Very easy process.

Then you seal the key using JB Kwik Weld and allow to cure. That's it. :thumbsup

Jeff, I just replaced the key to one of my ZHPs dead key fobs this afternoon. I also posted a DIY on how to do this today. Here's the link :thumbsup

I pulled my ZHP out of the garage today when I reprogrammed my repaired key fob and one of my neighbors told me that I had something sticking out of my front wheel. Of course I went out to examine what she was talking about then she realized her error and told me that she was looking at my brake caliper. I laughed and said they are big aren't they? and she agreed :) Just had to mention this in my project thread ;)

What sets both of my cars apart from everyone else in my opinion are my lights. I like a nice clean output in light output. Together with rebuilt ZKW headlights and Orion V4 angel eyes, these LED fog lights tie everything together. They come in 6000k lighting and my Orion V4's are 6000k so all I need to do is swap out my 5000k D2S for some 6000K D2S and my ZHP will be set up :drevil

Stock they are 4300k. You change out the stock D2S bulbs for 6000k D2S bulbs then the headlights will match the LED Fogs.

It's more of a challenge finding halogen H7 bulbs that match the 6000k color band.

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/37aea37e10a92bf4eca43f6fe981fa1e.jpg

Then finished trimming off one of the brackets and tabs off the new fog enclosures...

http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/2e7230dc3df7d61688d0ee61001777a6.jpg

Then painted the exposed metal
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/5e3fa14592aef6afa6b67159a586afc9.jpg

Then found a very minor snag which forced me to change out a plug
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/67efeed24a4098abf4149ca9d32bc499.jpg
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/ee0c11d7a738a0ee9de8f7d2ca4b8f7f.jpg
Seems that the plug that comes with the new LED ballast is too small for my ZHP's OE fog light harness so I got a plug from a few bsllasts that I had laying around...and used them! ;)
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/1d2d90733c5e7e67d1364ba71d7f57ca.jpg

Then I spliced the plug to the new ballasts after verifying where each wire went since these fogs won't go on if you have the two wires reversed...
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/b95fee79d027bacb003314905a125449.jpg
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/8c8316b23c992984e258b4df5f123c9c.jpg

Then I sealed the connections with liquid electrical tape ensuring there will not be any moisture intrusion there
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/12b862cf777add3173aa48099748b475.jpg

After the liquid tape firmed up, I went ahead and made all the connections and mounted the LED fogs to my ZHP...
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/912bf1d1303f867a883cd1ca531c7542.jpg
Did a quick check with successful results :)
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/07e3229c2cd3859db5cbd591cd4cee13.jpg
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/1553b0fe869abdbded9552ecb774829d.jpg
Finished everything...well, almost but I turned on my fogs to see the results I was looking for...
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160528/009ca8881244e91655c2fef9ec5c11e2.jpg
Then put my fog surrounds on and got a perfect fitment.

Other than the summer heat starting...the install was done at a leisurely pace and I was able to work out any "minor issue" to ensure the results I was going for ;) Overall pleased with my install. Next will be painting out my CSL bootlid snd fog surrounds so I csn have a clean looking ZHP :drevil

You need to find an LCM with s/w 4.0 or 4.5 or check and see if your car already has it (on mobile can't see your sig). And then have it coded by a member here or DIY if you are so inclined but BP is (one of) the coding gurus we have on here. :thumpsup

This. I like 1-2 blinks for the initial notification and the beginning of a lane change, and the remaining 3 to complete the lange change without having to swerve.

Totally understand. My VW has 3 slower blinks. The BMW blinks seem rushed. BP can probably answer, what is the option for 5 blinks since it's not listed on NCSexpert.

Terra showed me this neat trick on adding parameters to the DATEN file for the LSZ. Factory options are 1, 2, or 3 blinks, that's it. I added custom parameters for 4, 5, 6, and 7. I remember him telling me 7 is the highest, but I'm not sure if that was tested or not.

I planned on writing up a DIY on how to do it...

In newer cars with iDrive you can change that feature from the settings menu... pretty convenient. I go back and forth between one blink and three (the only two choices)

You probably have sw vers 3.6 in your LCM so I would assume you will have to change out your LCM... Terra used to reprogram the LCM with sw vers 3.6 into sw vers 4.5 but I don't know if he offers this service anymore.

Sounds simple enough. I'll compare the difference between 1,2,3 hex codes later tonight and see if I can edit the DATEN too.

Updated my Intravee II setup to change my one-touch blink feature of my LCM so that it now has the following settings...

Here are the following settings: Off, 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10, and 11. I now have my blink settings at 6 for my one-touch feature :drevil

It is nice having Intravee II installed in both of my BMWs :thumbsup For those with OEM navigation, this is a very nice addition... I wish they had something like this for my Porsche...

Features:
1) Probably the best iPod interface for the E46 platform
2) Programable buttons
3) Automatic clock setting based on GPS
4) Graphical display of the parking distance control sensors on the nav screen, automatically enabled when you put the car in reverse
5) Automatic folding up of side mirrors, if you have power fold mirrors
6) Data logging of your car when you drop it off at the dealership/shop-- including if it was revved out when cold!
7) Updatable firmware
8) No glitchiness!

Just so you know.... I'm still in the process of sourcing the 135i rear calipers from a friend of mine... he has been very busy lately (new baby) so I am patiently waiting for when he will have time so I can come up and buy them from him.... then the project can move forward....

I thought there was an update on the rear BBKs =(

Okay Daniel! Here is an update regarding the rear BBK retrofit I talked about so long ago.....

Looks like I will be ordering the BMW Performance rear 135i calipers within the next few weeks along with new rotors...

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/660/32715651396_d5e5e4e44d_h.jpg

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/714/32376566750_f2f2f67027_h.jpg

The rotors I decided to order are these....although I will add that BP tried to talk me out of getting these... I happen to like how they look and I'm updating my ZHP so I'm going with this....

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/693/32376483430_c7633ac981_h.jpg

They will go really nice with the new front rotors I will also be installing on my ZHP...
https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/305/31942366753_b20a48ed01_h.jpg

and the stainless steel brake lines
https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2950/33952441592_7d2f4f615f_z.jpg

I settled on these as my brembo BBKs on my Porsche and M3 have this brake line attached to them. :drevil

I will still need to source longer steel braided brake lines to attach the new calipers to and have tools necessary to modify the brake dust shield in order to have everything mounted without issues... there will be more to follow...waiting for the weather to warm up so I will be on track to do this come Spring2017.

Stuart...for me it does not matter how much it will cost as much as this is what should be done. This retrofit can be done cheaper by sourcing used rear 135i calipers from eBay and using standard rear M3 blanks instead of what I am using. I'm sure someone can spend far less compared to what I'm spending to get the same results.

To be perfectly honest, I have not added up the costs to any of my mods otherwise I probably wouldn't have done any of them.

Yep, that was me!

The rears you will need,

1. 135i caliper

2. 135i pads

3. OEM M3 rear rotors

4. longer brake lines

5. new 135i dust shield or just modify stock one you already have like below

https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3854/33337932686_66de4661f1_b.jpg

6. no mod to caliper bracket, or adapter plates

That is it...

Just be sure to mount the new calipers so that the passenger's side 135i caliper will now be mounted on the driver's side (bleeder screw on top) and the driver's side 135i caliper is mounted to the passenger's side (bleeder screw on top). That's all you have to do... just mount them so that the bleeder screw is on top after mounting...

I've been having issues with my MAF for, what I think, the past year now so I finally ordered a new MAF from FCP Euro a few days ago. I replaced my MAF today before the rain and will find out next week whether or not replacing fuel relays, crank sensor and MAF will resolve the occasional LIMP mode issue I have been seeing from my daily driver...

This is the old problematic sensor...cleaning it did not take care of the issue - long term.

Thanks Rob! I also have a spare ZHP throttle body stored in my garage....appreciate your very generous offer my friend! :thumbsup

On another note... looks like I will also be installing a brand new UUC Corsa TSE3 exhaust.

2017 season goals for ZHP:
- finish Performance BBK rear caliper setup
- install new UUC Corsa TSE3 exhaust
- adjust ride height (bring car up ~ 1 inch)
- paint and install my CSL bootlid for sedan

Interesting that the calipers have to be flipped to opposite sides, didn't realize it was that simple of a process. What length brake lines are recommended?

Also can you use M3 ZCP/CSL rotors?

Jacob, from the two DIYs I have seenits as simple as that [emoji1417]

Brake lines have to be longer than standard rear ones....I'm guessing if you can source new ones from Rally Road. :drevil

Yes you use M3 rotors [emoji1417]

I have been running with my new MAF sensor since Saturday and have not had any issues this week. My ZHP has been steady and actually feels like she has much more pull than she had when she had throttle adaptation/cylinder misfire issues which was causing her to go into occasional LIMP modes... looks like these issues have been taken care of :)

It's more like a big relief Rob! Having to wonder whether or not my car will suddenly go into LIMP mode while driving on a bridge during my commute to/from work has been unnerving. I no longer have to worry about these issues and feel great that with Botond's help I have been able to resolve this intermittent issue without going to the dealer.

Sweet!

Thanks Gary! :thumbsup

Thanks Patrick! Yeah, that's the plan once the weather improves! We're getting crappy weather up here again.... I will wait a few more weeks before beginning the modding... At least I have everything I will need to finish my BMW Performance rear BBK retrofit :drevil

In a few weeks there should be some movement in my garage regarding BBK installs... weather permitting of course!

In order for me to finish the BMW Performance 135i BBK upgrade to my ZHP, I will have to complete the Brembo GT BBK upgrade to my M3 first.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/739/33336433836_7ddda63d2b_o.jpg

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/674/32562585753_d3d40f1397_o.jpg

It is a process and the retrofit to the ZHP is more involved in that I will have to modify the dust shield which will take some time.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3933/33337932556_05cd3e34c4_o.jpg

I plan to paint the dust shield with rust inhibiting paint like the guy who did this in the photo above...

I also want to detail the process that will be involved since the existing information regarding this retrofit is spotty at best. I would like for others to see that there is an option if they want to stay with OEM BMW parts. :thumbsup

The pictures are there to help remind me what I will have on my ZHP soon :drevil

Looks like I will have another project to add for both BMWs this summer... Botond discovered some broken wiring insulation in his headlight assembly associated with his HID ballast and texted me the the picture below showing his broken insulation.... :/

https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2923/34106709485_3f83d21cb1_h.jpg

While working in my garage this evening I thought I would check a few "extra" HID ballasts I had stored and noticed similar cracks in the yellow wiring....

The reason I'm posting this is because it would not surprise me to see that most of you all have similar issues hiding within your headlight assemblies right now if you're still using your OE headlight assemblies. Just wanted to bring this to your attention. Looks like I will be rewiring my ballasts wiring this summer....

Is that all ~22AWG like the rest of the car? I'm cracking open headlights in a month or so, and I imagine I'll need to be prepared. A lot of the insulation in my X3 housings looked like this and needed repairs as well.

I saw this on mine as well when i retrofitted the FXR bixenon projector bowls. I went ahead and used shrink wrap on all of that wiring as well as the bixenon switch plug for the high beam which is inside the housing. those wires are subject to tons of heat and if 0 moisture as well... recipe for cracked insulation.
