So I got this container and bracket for my front seat for $20 without any mounting accessory and I'm wondering how I can find what size of screw I need that'll fit into the hole of the front seat where the brackets are mounted. I see the mounting holes under the seat though!

Trevor, I just removed my first-aid box to see how it is attached for you, and in my car the unit just slips in under the pass. seat. There is a plastic tab in the center that has to be pushed up to remove it, but to install it, it literally just slips in place over the two plastic channels on the seat bottom, and the latch locks it in place so that it cannot move forward. I hope that this helps!

Is there a special part no that I need to search for when I'm at Home Depot or Lowes? I'm not a screw guy...I have no idea what to ask for... :S I see you put there T30...but what about the length? I know when it's too long it'll interfere with the sliding of the front seat support for the thighs.

the part number for the official screw used by BMW is 07 14 9 169 302. it's less than $1.00 retail a piece.

The pitch is M6x12. You can always do what Dane provide too.

Dredging up this old thread

I made a mistake and assumed that the first aid box 53107044958 fit all E46's. So I bought it along with the mounting bracket 52107 045018. And bought 2 #12 x 3/4" machine screws. 2 things happened on the install

1) the bracket mounted easily, but now the thigh support on the Sport seats won't move. I'm guessing those screw are too long
2) the first aid box won't slide in to the bracket because it hits the metal bar that goes across the underside of the seat

I've now read that that bar only exists on the convertibles, and if I'd done my research on Realoem I'd have found that the convertible has a different box 52107008620, and the correct BMW screw is 07149169302 M6 x 12 (and looks much shorter).

Only good news is I have the right bracket :foottap

But before I order the screws, I'm not finding a source for that convertible first aid box 52107008620. Does anyone have any ideas where to find it? The first aid box I bought in error is for coupes and sedans, and can be found everywhere......

52107008620 - FIRST AID BOX EMPTY
Superseded by: 52106971063
These were only used on E46 convertibles, including Euro M3s, AND E93 convertibles.

It appears BMW uses a different # for empty vs. full boxes.
Part # 52108267538 is for the case PLUS contents for E46 convertibles.
Part # 52107166665 is for the case PLUS contents for E46 & E93 convertibles.

Here's a used one. Perhaps you can tell from the pix if it's different from the one you have. Ask seller if there are other #s molded into the box.

Thanks John

the 1st listing looks just like mine. It's that bump out on the bottom in the back that hits the metal bar, so I don't think it's that one. Although his listing says it came from an M3 vert though...?

the 2nd one looks promising though, since they've carved off that bump out. Good suggestion to ask if it has the part number molded into it. I might also ask him to measure the depth

FYI - Realoem using my VIN says my part (empty box) was superseded by 52106971063 (also used on 6 Series).

I just went through 20 sites that said it's no longer available, but the 21st site actually let me order it. Just sent a $36 PayPal payment into the great unknown

Just carry a band-aid in my wallet?

Good luck! Many of the dealer internet parts catalog sales tools are not up to date, showing a price, only to inform you later it's NLA.
I discovered decades ago that it's easier (& cheaper) to find accessories like that during or closer to the end of model production!

Confused. You ordered the 2nd ebay one or from somewhere else?

You're probably correct, but I gave it a shot. I found it at this website:

Appears to be Passport BMW in Suitland MD. Google Earth image of their address shows a BIG BMW dealership

Passport's parts dept. is very competitive - hope they have it for you. They are also very supportive of the local BMW club chapter.

Good to know. I can picture them scratching the heads right now wondering how their system allowed an order to be taken for a discontinued part....

Thanks, I'll keep you in mind. I'd love to give you a real deal but not sure how to put a price on it. The cheapest freight to the Bay area from here looks like flat rate $13 from the USPS and I only paid $27.85 for it from BavAuto. BavAuto would be cheaper for you. But PM me if you want to offer something, I guess it is just sitting here homeless

The stupid mounting bracket quadrupled in price in the past 3-4 years - it's more than the box now.

pedro2u

I paid $38.68 for the bracket, aka $.10 hunk of plastic

OK, you vert owners. It's done. About 3 weeks since I ordered the 52107166665 first aid kit on eBay from Lithuania. Arrived today. Gotta say, it's pretty nice, comes stuffed with medical supplies too. And although I had messed with all the different screws for the bracket from Home Depot, nothing was quite right. So I ended up just buying 07149169302 from BavAuto for $1.98 ea (takes 2). M6x12, length I'm guessing is 1/2" long (longer hits the seat extender). Perfect fit

And so I just went out and popped it on the bracket. I'm happy with the result........

I had acquired two (1 under each seat) of the "incorrect" boxes with brackets and screws from ECS and had not installed them when I first read this thread. So I was pretty bummed. But while installing my Pedalbox last week, I figured I would go ahead and at least install the first aid box brackets and wait until I could find the correct boxes. For giggles, I went ahead and tried to install one box under the passenger seat and instantly encountered the problem described - box is too deep and hits a bar under the seat. Out of a bit of frustration, I smacked the box pretty good and somehow, someway, it snapped into place! I could tell the rear of the box dropped down a bit to clear the bar, but it was otherwise secure. Hard to describe but to me, it felt like the box fit as intended. I reinstalled the seat, tested all of the seat movements, including the thigh bolster, and everything works perfectly.

So what the hell, I went ahead and did the same on the driver seat. Same result, however, that box took a bit more effort and didn't seem to fit quite as naturally as the passenger side. But everything works properly, go figure.

One thought for convertible owners - the bracket actually takes three (3) screws - front left, front right and rear - though the 2 front screws are probably adequate. If you omit the rear screw, or don't tighten it fully, there might be enough play in the bracket to allow it to drop down a bit so the rear part of the box clears the seat bar. I installed the rear screw tightly on both of mine and it still "fit" but as I described, I had to force the boxes into place.

Glad it worked for you. It seemed clear to me that the one I bought originally wasn't going to go on without interference. And luckily John in VA pointed out, the convertible does call for a different box (the one I just finally installed) that doesn't have the bump out on the bottom that hits the bar.

So sounds like 2 good outcomes
