I can't seem to find the definitive thread relating to this question. I may have missed it in my searching. Is there an easy way to know which connector you have without disassembling? It's from my understanding that there are several variables (coupe v sedan, year, memory seats?) that determine which connector you have. I'm really looking to replace my beat up stock side mirrors with something other than the noisy and poorly designed stock mirrors.

Thanks for your help!

Any insight on this?

All 03/2003 non-M E46s have the ribbon-style connectors. That means all ZHPs have the ribbon connectors

This is what the inside of all ZHP sedan doors will look like:

As far as I know, all the ZHP sedans have the ribbon connector.

Terra,
I thought it was just sedans? I haven't seen coupes with ribbon connectors before, though I haven't really been looking either.

Coupes got the ribbons too - though after some research, I realize I was wrong on the date (looks like coupes got ribbons in September instead of March). Either way, that means all ZHPs have ribbons (ZHP sedans didn't come out 'til 03/2003, and ZHP coupes didn't come out until 09/2003)

The only E46 that didn't eventually get the ribbon was the E46 M3. Which is why it is a bit of a pain in the ass to retrofit M3 mirrors to newer E46s.
