View Full Version : Annnnnd I wrecked it...Mounts and Bushings did great!

Hornung418

So I was test driving the new 75D mounts and bushings around 3:30 and was cut off on my test of city driving and handling. 30 mph zone going slightly over after yielding for the right hander. Cut off by an out of town couple with no signal, jumped on the brakes and only managed to let them tag my Driver Side front fender. It's truly incredible...Hood is fine, Driver door is fine. Pics speak for themselves..

Sorry to hear about it man. Guess its time to upgrade the front bumper ;) anyone know how difficult it would be to just get a new fender for that side and swap them out? Or is it welded in...never tried to take mine off before. Glad you're alright and the car didn't take too much damage.

Everyone is safe, cars are easily fixable. As for the fender, it does bolt on, the drivers side on my car was replaced before I bought it. And yes, repairs always provide an opportunity for upgrade!

Good luck with the fix and keep us posted!

Thanks family. Got the claims process started yesterday.

I don't have contempt for the couple. They are from Delaware and just followed the traffic into a turn lane for Target, but they wanted to go straight. No signal and I was at the right place at the wrong time :( its a confusing street. I'll get a pic of the scene.

Will, the fender comes off with some torx screws and some under body work removal, welding not necessary. I still can't believe that's all that was damaged and with the front impact, the air bags didn't deploy...I'm sure that would have totaled the vehicle.

I would be so upset if this happened to me. I'm sorry to hear about this Justin. Thankfully the car didn't sustain damage to multiple areas, and although it still isn't free to fix, it is a lot cheaper than a new front end. I hope the insurance company goes after them and doesn't screw you over too bad. I'm just assuming that there was a police officer present and a police report written?

And most important, I'm glad you're ok!

Hornung418
07-29-2012, 10:02 AM
Thanks guys.

No police report needed as no one was injured. We exchanged policy numbers phone numbers and snapped some pics. I still can't believe that only one panel and the bumper were hit. The corner of the fender went under the hood and not a single scratch was had. And most importantly, my bi-xenons weren't harmed. Custom work and $500...phew.

If I'm not found liable, I won't have to pay anything. Remember, they hit me :) I do want an Mtech II pretty badly. Hopefully I can make it work.

Below is a map of the intersection. I did some late braking into the yield and saw a queue of cars turning left going to Target. The single lane becomes two lanes just before the Wallgreens Pharmacy. Thankfully that was there for me to turn into or I would have gone into the kerb.

The reason I asked about a police report is it helps show who was at fault. Especially if they admit to the cop that bit was their fault, then change their mind later.

Dang it Justin! I'm so nervous the damage is going to start adding up. Our pre-facelift cars just aren't worth much anymore, yet repairs still cost the same! Too much suspension damage and the car could get totaled.

Although I was looking at the wheel and it looks pretty terrible. Maybe it's bent and out of balance, and the impact through off your alignment. Conclusion, maybe you just need a new wheel and an alignment. :fingerscrossed

Insurance appraiser failed to call me today. So I get to get up and call him bright and early so I can get my rental. They still think the car is in driving condition but I had only driven it for 2 miles after the accident, so my opinion of the condition was uneducated.

Priced out the bumpers on RealOEM.com and cross-referenced through ECSTuning.com and found that they are comparable in price. All I can hope for is that the claims adjuster is on board with me.

Justin just an FYI I had a similar situation happen to me with my jeep wrangler, had a $500 deductible. I was able to source the "facelift" parts myself for the body shop. I saved them so much I ended up paying $48 all said and done for my deduct

Picked up my rental after Liberty Mutual finally admitted liability. My car will be covered by them and I will start the process tomorrow. Since the fender will need to be blended into the hood, and my hood is riddled with rock chips and two rather large dents, I will be replacing it with a Facelift hood and BMW Performance Kidneys. An Mtech 2 front bumper will be going on as well. I will have the car aligned to ZHP specifications and if we find anything else it will be billed to Insurance.

Car will look like this when completed sans the power bulge and M3 mirrors:

Aftermarket. That particular car is from Mylasia. Jeremiah had a CF powerdome sedan hood but it cracked at the passenger side shock point. Think it was Vorsteiner.

My new hood will be OEM just based on fitment alone. Car doesn't need a CF hood as its not a racecar, but I do want a CF roof panel, to improve handling.

That bites, its pretty standard practice now with body shops to email you with a progress link once they get started. They snap hundreds of pictures throughout the build and every few days they upload the progress online for you to see. At least thats what I have seen at body shops near me and my best man's body shop in Boston.

Yeah, this is my first experience with a body shop. I've heard tonnes of great things about Steve and the work he does. He's been doing it for a long time, and his father even longer, so it would seem he knows what's up. I'm very excited to have the new look. Next up, Cosmetically speaking that is, is the Hamann CF lip that MidlandTech has on his sedan. Kid up the street has it on his e46 M painted and it looks so boss.

When I get it back, I'll be converting the vehicle to run MS43 and have all the 3.0 parts on the 2.8. With a little luck, I found everything I needed for $300 shipped to my door :) Next post I will have some progress to share, promise :)

Noted! When we get everything lined up and in place, I'll have them align it.

As for the air filter, that's silicon tubing with an AMSOil EA filter on the end, tucked neatly between the fender liner and the brake duct :)

Kris, I didn't open the hood. My strut towers were already mushroomed slightly before the accident and it's something I'm going to fix when I repair the suspension. Not it the cards at the moment.

I'm keeping the lights as is. The fender is already painted and installed. My lights are bi-xenon and fully functional with a new LCM paid around $570 for the lights and the LCM to be coded by TerraPhantm. And I love the way the hood overlaps the lights and gives it that Boser look with out having to mod the hood.

I went to the dealer instead and drove an F30 328i xdrive with 10 miles on it to at least get some driving pleasure in. That's a fancy machine. Really enjoyed the N20!

Also filled out an application for a Detailing position...let's see how that goes.

And last...checked out my Performance Grilles. My oh my do they look great! Hopefully I can strip the paint on the chrome trim I put on last month and wrap them in gloss black before Bfest...right now only the passenger side is painted, and it looks retarded.

I cannot believe how long this is taking. I still don't have the car back. I'm loosing my cool here. This was supposed to be done on Wednesday. Now It's not going to be done until tomorrow, and while it's only a day away, I was told on Friday that it would be done on Monday, after being told on Thursday it would be done on Friday. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu--.

Perfection has no set times. Hopefully it will be perfect! Lining that stuff up can be a total pita.

Sorry, had to :)

All the paint work is done. Apparently they needed some brackets for something and BMW wasn't in a hurry to get those parts to the body shop. So he's putting the blame on BMW and I'm just ready to drive my car. I just want to drive it :crying:

Man, that's rough, everything that has happened. Just take solace in knowing that the wait is worth the quality work. You seem to trust the guys doing the job, so that's really what counts. When I put my car up a grass embankment, I ended up taking her to my ex's dad, who owned a body shop. I couldnt be happier about the work. It took a bit longer than I would have liked, but I didn't need the amount of work yours required.

Maybe I missed the update, but how did the suspension end up fairing? You said something about a possible issue?

I hope you get her back soon.

Oh...you'll get pics.

It's to dark for pics now. But lets just say that I did not enjoy the ride home, and did not enjoy it when I popped the hood.

I spent all evening correcting the issues that they didn't even address. First, the bill. $1,141.XX. Jaw hit the floor. He didn't even tell me about the prices he was getting. Second, The M-tech II Bumper was only $50 extra, but I didn't get foglights, brake ducts, or the lower mesh and was out of alignment. Third, a headlight tab was broken in the process, and not addressed. Fourth, the hood doesn't meet the fenders and won't close when I put the new Performance Grilles in it. And Last (that I've discovered so far), the fucking driver side lug nuts were not even finger tight. I went back to the shop not 20 feet after pulling out and told him that the wheel was not balanced, he told me to come back tomorrow and we'll get em balanced. Came home, and low and behold when I go to inspect the work, now that an issue had arisen, I find out that the last part of the puzzle was left incomplete. I feel cheated out of my money, more than you can imagine. Pics of the failure tomorrow :(

Ugh...I mean I had my friends help me realign the hood, but now it doesn't meet up with the Nose. That's how it's supposed to be for the moment. I had to realign the hood pins after aligning the hood, because it wouldn't close after I scooted it flush. We will see how they address the part about the lugs. Sure people forget...but when you are dealing with something as essential to a car as the wheel? Come on, that's not to be missed. I will have them take care of all the issues I found and they didn't repaint the mirror cap...That was actually damaged in the crash...and they didn't repair it. I just remembered that one.

Looks like you need MTECHII brake ducts :) I believe you can adjust the headlights to make them a little more flush.

But otherwise looks great with the MTECHII bumper!

Head light tab is cracked.

5551

Center alignment is off with the lower headlight trim.

5552

5553

Brake duct tab isn't clipped into the fender liner.

5554

Just admiring stupidity.

5555

5556

Mirror cap...unaddressed

For the three week wait, I'm very disappointed with the quality of the job. The paint work is very nice, but the reassembly is pathetic. Car drives fine now that I tightened the lugs on the driver side front, but why the hell am I paying to do half the work myself?? Anyways. Looks good from a distance. She's a 40 yard fade now...hooray.
