Was driving on i81 today back home and came up beside a tractor trailer hauling numerous vehicles...one of which in the far back I noticed seemed to be a legit CSL...it was the first I've seen in real life...anyone else happen to cross paths with such a beauty?

What made you think it was a legit CSL?
The CSL wasn't made available in the states, and as far as I know, Canada (though I may be wrong on Canada).
It most likely wouldn't pass emissions laws here either, so even if someone did manage to import it, they couldn't register it, making it illegal to drive on the road...
Possibly registered in Canada if they exist there, and driven here?

So wait, you saw a CSL, and never took a pic?! Dammit man! :biggrin

did it have the CSL badge?

http://www.gtspirit.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/800px-bmw_m3_csl_e46_writing_-_badge_-_logo.jpg

I also agree that it probably wasn't real as they are not legal out here

I know I wish I had taken a pic...it did in fact have the badge and the front bumper and wheels were what they should be.

Could've been a poser...
Bumpers, trunks, wheels, and badges are easily attainable. ;)

Spelling is important when it's a three letter model name...

It's possible he saw one, you can import them. Registering is another story. Could of been for a track only car or a collector show car. Although that probably wouldn't of been on a open trailer.

Or maybe they are able to be imported and modified? Like the R33 skyline

Jesus....

Hahaha this made me :rofl pretty good. I was sort of figuring eventually someone would mention this and you'd come in and fix it. But the bickery makes it amusing.

Doesn't the Mafia know how many CSL posers there are out there?

Sure, bumpers, rims, & trunk are easily obtained.. but talk to me when you source an interior w/ door panels and an OE CSL intake :)

Just sticking up for Will, we aren't the typo police here. BTW, I think there were CSLs at one of the BMW museums the mafia visited?

Locally there is a guy with a interlagos blue ZCP M3 that has the CSL Roof, seats, doorcards, center console, OEM trunk, OEM bumpers, OEM rear splitter and OEM intake box. Chances are he also has the OEM headers as well. He spent a good amount of money to convert it into a CSL and on top of that, its an SMG. He is now lowered on MOTON Coilovers and got a Stoptech BBK..

There are a dime a dozen replica cars out here. I've seen an AW 01 M3 with black cloth interior with no sunroof and CSL splitter/trunk and door cards. I was upright most jealous of this car. :drool

old coworker installed an OEM CSL roof on his m3 as well. He has the OEM CSL intake but hasn't figure out the software part to get the plenum to work correctly.

Dalton....depends on what your definition is of a CSL poser.

I agree that there are lots that can be obtained such as the bootlid, front bumpers, rear diffuser, and CSL wheels...those are the easiest parts to get....

You also get the OE CF roof, CSL intake, CSL exhausts, engine components, then there are interior items such as the CSL seats, cf door cards, and cf center console....let's not forget the special lightweight windows the CSL came with as well...

Sure people can get all of these items to get the "CSL look" and there are some who go to the extent to slap CSL badging on their cars.....at that point then they are posing in my opinion.

I think it's awesome that some owners have the means to go the extreme and get almost all the items to "build" as close to the CSL as they possibly can. :thumbsup

There are many items from the CSL I would love to have in my ///M but unfortunately I'm not shelling that amount of cash for them....specifically the CSL door cards and seats. Anyway, I just had to input my two cents on the "poser" subject ;)

+1 to what Charlie said above though.

I apologize for the mistype. I started the thread on my phone and it did not have CSL* in the dictionary til after I had posted it and I wasn't sure how to correct the problem and have been a little busy to log on the computer and correct it. Really wish I had taken a picture though...

Thanks for the title fix

Just so everyone is clear...there is no need to apologize for spelling or grammatical type situations, as we DO NOT POLICE THAT HERE.

If you understand what the "Poster" means.....move on.

Thanks dane...im inclined to believe it was a real CSL but I could easily be wrong. I know how expensive parts can be to source for that car so someone spent a decent amount of money on it regardless. It was just one of those WTH moments because the trailer was stacked with cars and suv's then I just happened to look over and bam there it was. Just not something you see in my area ever so I was pleasantly surprised.

you know, there is a fake M3 in my town that has a full M3 body makeover. Its stupid because its clearly not imola red, and the guy didnt even bother to put wheel spacers for the fender flares. looks terrible. That couldve been a fake.
