This thread's sole purpose is to document my very first engine tear down and rebuild.

I have seen it done online before and have become very intimate with steps and processes regarding the deconstruction of a Non VANOS 24 valve engine. Attached is an image of the dirty 525i engine that was pulled in perfect running condition. It took a front end shunt so the e34 was parted out.

5813

I will be picking up an engine stand from a listing in York PA for $30 bucks. And hopefully picking up the engine before Bruce's meet in early October. The engine will be stored in a facility until I have proper clearance from the parental units to build at home. I'm getting this project started behind their backs so they can't say no...

Once disassembly is under way I will be sourcing an S52 crank from the S52B32 or an M54B30 to stroke the M50 to 3.0 litres. Then I will bore the walls out, remove any taper and re-assemble with forged rods and either High Cpmp Ratio or Turbo Comp Ratio pistons. Still not sure which route this build is headed, but it's headed somewhere fun that's for sure.

The weird thing about this whole build is that while I have the heart of a beast, I do not possess the vessel in which to hoon around in. So that will be the third step in the process.

More later.

Thanks guys. I am super pumped to see where this goes. I do enjoy the fun of building stuff. I've also decided that this will go into an e30. The fact that this came from an e34 is the deciding factor. The oil pan doesn't have to be changed, only the engine arms and the mounts need to be changed to e36.

I'll let ya know.

Reading Boris' new build. I may build an e85 high comp turbo...so 10.5 CR and we'll start out at 10 psi and work from there.

It will have what ever transmission comes with the Donor car until I have enough for a Straight Cut gearbox. This is going to end up in a track rat.

Surprised there isn't an 30 project thread started by Johnmadd. Even if not a lot is going on with it, at least there will be some pic-ness to satisfy the wonder, amazement and intrigue.

I just met a guy driving a siennarot preface sedan tonight and we started talkingto BMW. He's an e36 M3 guy and mentioned that he has a plethora of engines including an S50 he would be willing to sell for $1000 with all the accessories incl. SS headers...

I do intend to buy the M50 NV but will have to think about that for a little bit.

Project is on hold indefinitely. Sorry to disappoint for now. If I want to pursue this route, I have to sell the 328 and move to an e30, but with the cars current state, I'm the only one who knows it's intricacies. It's been modded far to much to sell to Joe Schmoe and I will most likely have this car for ever, but now is not the time to have two projects :(

I will do it one day, just not this coming year.
