View Full Version : Tire Sizes - Can we move up?

Using the stock 135 wheels with stock suspension, can we fit 235/40-18 tires on the front and 265/35-18 tires on the rear? Without rubbing?

My thought was this additional 10mm of width, so 5mm on either side of the wheel centerline, should result in about a 1/4" more sidewall bulge to offer additional protection to the wheels. I ran the calculations and the increase in overall height and circumference of this idea should only change the speedometer by 1-1.5%, so negligible.

Anyone running these sizes? Any other thoughts, am I oversimplifying this or am I missing something?

I have 235/40-18 all around. I have an 8" rim in the front. So do you. You will be fine in the front....for a fact.

Your real questions are:

1) Can I fit a 265 on an 8.5" rim (rear). I think yes.....but dunno for sure.

2) Will I rub. You should be ok....but don't know for sure.

I have OEM zhp wheels (staggered). And the gentleman who I bought them from used 245-40-18's up front.. I have no rubbing or any negative effect other than the ridiculous amount of sidewall, and they follow the grooves in the road (big negative effect..) and the fact that 245's are waaay too much tire for my car.

235's should be okay, but I would run 225's instead. Bmw intended those size tires for a reason. I feel that the 245's like to "wander" around the road and it just doesn't feel right. My cousin said the PO of his M3 did the same thing.. 245's up front instead of 225's and he said the 225's up front are way better, he feels that the steering is much better at the correct tire size.

I run 265 rear no issue.

Well, based on my own incomplete research, I ordered the oversize earlier this evening. Then after some thinking fluid I decided I should stay with stock sizes. TireRack was closed by the time I made this decision, so emailed them and will have to see tomorrow if they send stock or oversized. Either way, I'll live with it. Went with Michelin Pilot Sport All Season Plus.

:rofl

NOOOOOOOOO... haha forgot to mention that.

9.5 rears plus I believe the fenders are rolled.

265 fits the back end, just need to check the rim width range of the tires being used (seen in the "specs" section of tire description). 265 in theory should fit an 8.5" rim and just have a good amount of sidewall protection on the lip.

Rim Width Range on those are 9"-10.5" so it is possible they don't fit. :/

What size?

Ordered 235/40R18 & 265/35R18, then sent a change order request via email to send the stock sizes, 225/40R18 & 255/35R18. Online it doesn't look like my order was filled last night, not sure if they'll catch the change this morning or not. Will have to wait to see what awaits me with Friday's delivery, i can live with either one.

Well, got an email confirmation that they sent stock size tires, sent today and arrive tomorrow. I'llset up an install for Saturday. The conv is getting close on tires, we can make it until I swap to winter tires at the first of November, then will buy new all-seasons in the Spring. I may then decide to go oversize, who knows.

Anyway, you'll be happy! :)

Thanks guys for the compliments. I just put a point and shoot on the ground, aimed it with the wrist strap as a supporting base and hit the timer. LOL
