I discovered that I had a flat tire yesterday and today found out that it is because of a crack in the wheel. Where would you fine gentlemen recommend I go to replace. It's the right rear, not that that particularly matters.

I would search the forums for a style 135 rear. You could go through BMW but that's going to be $$$.

Yeah, bavauto has a 135 rear listed at 416+shipping. I may end up going for those 2 fronts that Rick has up on our classifieds and put winter tires on, but that's going to be a lot of money too.

Are there any sites other than bavauto that carry them? For some reason I'm having a hell of a time finding online retailers that have them.

modbargains has reps.

Also, does the mafia have a general opinion on picking up a reconditioned wheel?

Thanks John.

IMO, that's the best way to go, if you can trust the seller (not cracked or anything). Likely, you could get one in pretty good shape that didn't need reconditioning, or you could just have the work done yourself so you know it's done right.

Most if what Ive found on the forums are some mix of chrome, a full set, and way the hell away from me.

John, do you know if modbargains has staggereds listed somewhere that I'm just not seeing. While I'm up for the idea of matte black 135s i would be most happy with not having to buy new tires.

Available here as well. No staggered.

I just looked at their site it looks like only fronts, sold in sets of 4, in black or silver.

I suppose one of my follow up questions is: Just how terrible are the OE potenzas in cold\snow? Completely useless? I'm in central Va, so the odds of getting a couple of ice\snow storms and regularly cold temps is pretty good.

I'm floating between wanting to get a set of the reproductions and put 2 all seasons on the back and then pick up a couple for the front once my checking account has recovered.

Thoughts?

Well Ive never personally driven mine in the snow, but from my understanding ZHPs wont go anywhere in snow without snow tires. Again, not entirely sure though :dunno

Heh, well they don't call Lynchburg the Hill City for nothing. Ill assume that after 3 flakes of snow I would go sliding into a tree.

This isn't true. I've driven in deep snow. No issues. Just don't stop...hehe.

I just bought a set of really nice used Style 68s for my e36 off a member of e46 fanatics. I also saw a number of threads offering 135s over there. Check it out.

I had gotten stuck in 2" of fresh powder with RE090s plus the oem style 135s. I do live in a hilly/mountainous area not flat land so stay far far away from driving in the snow in the oem setup. I also cracked two of my oems years ago. I would never ever purchase a reconditioned wheel or have it welded. You do not want to see what can happen to those "reconditioned" wheels at highway speeds. Just get a new wheel. And for winter just go with 17s plus winter tires used. I sourced mine a few years ago from bimmerforums for $400 total.

Yeah, I'm weighing the option of picking up winter wheel\tires up and then biding my time to replace the 8.5

When I say "reconditioned", I'm only talking cosmetically. I wouldn't buy a reconditioned one that had a repaired crack, etc, because you just wouldn't know what you're getting.

Agreed, the problem is, a lot of retailers that sell reconditioned wheels do not disclose whether they repaired any cracks or not.

Well, the BMW direct price is only something like $480 with tax which is lower than I expected. It looks like I'm putting off a second set until I can actually afford it instead of having an "Oh shit I need a new wheel" buying situation.

UGH! I smacked my right front wheel in a construction zone on 64/95 here, a bad bridge transition/junction, and within a mile I could tell it was losing air. I managed to get off the highway after the construction (no shoulder) but by the time I pulled off completely the tire was shredded on the inner sidewall. Took the wheel off and saw it had been repaired by the previous owner (not disclosed and I didn't notice). I was just shopping for tires on the forums and now wonder if the repair failed and my crack is to blame? I actually have a spare Falken tire from the previous owner so I guess I'll take it to a shop to investigate if my wheel is screwed. What a pain in the ass. Thanks VDOT!

But just in case I get to open my wallet for new tires: What do you guys prefer for best all season tires? Light if any snow here in Virginia.
