Ok,

I have used the site frequently and have registered a lot of ZHPs. However, I come to you with an admittance of guilt - how can you tell if it black sapphire or jet black? Sand leather or Natural Brown leather interior? :scratchinghead These are the two things that always get me and I struggle with it and always end up making a best guess. From some of the pictures it's almost impossible for me to tell and I just do a 50/50 split... UGH, that felt good - weight from chest lifted.

Hahahahha... This post is funny...

BSM is exactly that, a metallic black. Hopefully the car you're trying to register has good enough photos to see the detail. But, I saw one where the car actually looked purple/blue in some shots. But, I called and they definitely said it was black (although they thought it was Jerez Black, an E9x M3 color). Jet black is just that, a non-metallic black. For clarification, johnrando has a JET BLACK '06 vert and wsmeyer has a BLACK SAPPHIRE METALLIC '06 vert. Both cars drip with sex. :biggrin

As for interior... Natural brown is a two tone... Black dash, carpet, center console... Peanut butter colored seats and door panel inserts... Sand is a full 'tan' interior, just like you see in many cars. Dash (lower portion) and carpet are all tan as well, including lower trim pieces along inside of doors, footwell area, etc...

Hope this helps. :thumbsup

And speaking of registry errors... I really want to add my car as an alpine white/natural brown leather sedan... Because natural brown is more not-special than the plain black leather it came with. But, according to VIN, its an alpine white/black leather car... Also not special. :shifty

Whoa, that helps a lot man. Thanks a ton. I was seriously losing sleep over this. I actually got a headache trying to look for the differences in the pic. Ha. With windows 7 I had the 50/50 split window screen goin' to compare.

Well see, that's the problem right there... You have to get rid of everything made by Microsuck.. I mean soft, Microsoft...

This post brought to you from a sweet, silver, aluminum laptop with a piece of half eaten fruit on it. :rofl

Black sapphire metallic has gold flakes in it so its kind of a dirty black compared to the non metallic solid black jet black. Jet black shows a lot more swirls if improperly taken care of then BSM. Black is an amazing color when its clean, but it sure gets dirty fast..

You're talking to a guy from Seattle. We might as well have the "sponsored by Microsoft" phrase stamped on the inside of our contacts - don't get me talkin' about the fellows living in Redmond!

And by fast you mean within 20 minutes of washing... I owned one black car, vowed to never again buy another one...

But, there's a pretty nice BSM sedan for sale down in South Florida right now...

Derbo - so I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that your car (in your sig) is black sapphire?

HAHA! I'm not the only one mixing the interior's up:

Check out that vin on ZHPregistry.net : WBAEV53474KM06836

It's plainly Nat brown but it's listed as sand interior... Can anyone here correct it?

Jon, thanks for the props. You nailed it exactly.

Sapphire is metallic. Jet is straight black. Jerez is purple black. I like that Derek called sapphire black a "dirty black".... now I REALLY have something to tease William about. Not only did he choose the wrong black, but he got a dirty black! :)

BTW Derek, I've always said, a black car is like a crazy, hot, fun girlfriend. When it looks good, there is nothing better. To me, there is no car more beautiful than a clean black car in the proper light (which is anything but direct sunlight). And when conditions aren't optimal, things don't look right. You hang on to that crazy girlfriend for those hella good times and just bite your lip and get through the crazy times when things aren't just right. Same with a black car. It's all worth it. For the females on the site, I'm guessing you could just reverse that to boyfriend.

For reference, this is a tan (sand) interior

yup I own a black sapphire metallic. It's a beautiful color when clean. It shows less dust than a jet black car but not much. My cousin has a jet black zhp and when we go to family events, my zhp usually looks dirtier lol.

Well, I can't correct it, but I sent an email to the address listed on the site. I simply told him that I believed it to be incorrect. Before doing so, I ran the VIN on the BMW VIN decoder, which also confirmed natural brown. You never know if someone completed a conversion. I know guys that have done such things... :ninja For instance, the VIN for my new car (which was added a little over a year ago) shows the car as Alpine White/black leather, which is correct... Even though now the car has the natural brown. I believe the registry should show what the car was BUILT with, even if others convert interiors...

That all being said, I got an email back in about 10 minutes stating that it would be corrected. :thumbsup

There are some skeptical registers on the site, specifically the cars listed as steel grey and silverstone. I don't believe any ZHPs came in those colors:

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1511961

Sedans:
Imola Red
Alpine White
Jet Black
Silver Gray
Titanium Silver
Mystic Blue
Black Sapphire
Oxford Green ('03/'04 only)
Orient Blue (rare)

Coupes:
As above, adding
Sparkling Graphite Metallic

Excluded Standard Colors:
Steel Blue, Gray Green, Electric Red

Interior:
Alcantara/Cloth
Black Leather
Sand Leather
Natural Brown Leather
Gray Leather

Interior Trim:
Black Cube
Silver Cube

But remember BMW individual colors was possible so it could be anything. I saw an 01 330i convertible in techno violet from factory. The shock tower said BMW individual techno violet.

Good call on this too, I think this is the best way that we should all be doing it from now on.

Yes, Plan to check all Steel Greys, which I suspect are Spark Graphites. Recently I had to change an Electic Red car to Imola. Dakar and PhoenixYellows are legit, I've seen them.

When I find cars listed for sale and the VIN is available, I try verify and add them to the registry. I'd encourage others to do the same. Are you doing that?
