Hello fellow Mafiosos,

I just picked up an '06 ZHP Coupe last weekend. It's a blast to drive. This one is an automatic. I test drove one with a stick but decided not to go that route. The auto has plenty of zip and the steptronic works nicely. Back in my younger days I only bought manual tranny vehicles. My last few have been automatics and maybe I'm just getting lazy. Sure comes in handy when eating my toast or drinking coffee!

Still getting used to it. I can see this car is going to be a lot of work to get it tweaked in. The steering is a little loose. Might need a coupler and an alignment. The Bridgestone tires are a little on the loud side.

Any way, glad to be here and I'm looking forward to learning and sharing.

Welcome aboard and congrats on your new whip. Might want to check the CABs to tighten up the steering feel. Good luck.

Thanks, Echo

The carfax said the CABs were replaced a year and half ago. I'll have them double checked when it has the alignment done this saturday.

Could also be the end links, tie rods or the control arms themselves. Check out the ball joints on the control arms. Also, what kind of wear do you have on the front tires?

Welcome Dave! If those are run flats those definitely are on the very loud side. Go with RE760 or RE970AS. Great tires. Enjoy your new ride.

Also, what kind of wear do you have on the front tires? I'm at about 50% worn on all four.

The tires are RE760 Sports and the look on the small side. The front 40 series look more like 30s sitting next to my friend's Z3 which has 40s on it.

Welcome to the Family.

Congrats on the new ride.
Thanks. I had been driving a Toyota pickup and wanted to have an option. Was thinking a smaller sporty car would be a nice change. Been running different ideas through my head for the last two years and finally narrowed it down to the 330Ci. Then I found out about the ZHPs and knew that's what I had to have.

..........or tie rods.

I would look at tire wear regarding whether an alignment is necessary or not.....unless the car is tramlining.

Yep. Guibo. I was calling that part a coupler. Wonder where the name "Guibo" came from and how is it pronounced? GWEE-BO ?

Welcome - how do you tell if the control arms are in need of replacement in addtion to the bushings? At what milage should the control arms be replaced? My service advisor at Princeton BMW tells me the ZHP control arms are a lot stronger than the standard sport ones and should last well into 100k miles...

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I'm in central California. Near Lodi. The car has black leather with black carbon fiber trim, Nav, Harmon Kardon stereo, sun roof and who knows what else. I think it has an auto dimming rear view mirror but I haven't figure that one out yet. Not sure I like it because I can't seem to dim it down in the morning and I get odd reflections of headlights on the rear window heater elements. Not planning to do any mods. I'm more of a maintenance freak than a modder. I only want to keep the car cherry and running at peak efficiency. It has plenty of performance for me as is.

Do you have CF? Or black cube trim?

johnrando

Looks like you missed it in his thread, the cubes are black Dane. Dave, the way to tell w/the mirror is manually test and see if the mirror responds. IIRC, there is one in the front and one in the back. The one on the front of the mirror is obviously for high beams, the one on the back is the overall night-time sensor. So, the one in the back, you can just put your hand over it and you'll see the mirror respond as it will think it's night. The one in the front, I guess you can use a flashlight to shine a light in and see if it responds. I wish my memory was better, but someone chime if if this isn't correct.

BTW, car looks sweet in that pic. If you're running w/o a front license plate you might as well get the plate delete strip, so it removes that big ole plate holder and greatly improves the look of the car in front.
