This looks like an excellent portable/in-car low profile jack. Anyone seen/used this or something like it?

Pretty cool. Cost is high though.

Sure is, but I haven't seen anything like it. A guy on e46 has it and did a trial run on his car and he said it worked fine.

I carry a floor jack in the trunk.... It's so much easier if the need arises

I carry a 1.5 ton scissor jack that I got walmart. It was $25, works very well, but not quite as low profile as the one you pictured. Biggest thing is it doesn't take up the space of a floor jack, and works 1000 times better than the oe jack.

Will that scissor jack fit under a low car? I can barely fit the Harbor Freight jack most of us have under mine, so I think I need something in my car that's fail safe.

I need to get one since the oem one I had broke last time I used it...

Yes, I believe it's 2-3 inches closed. Give me a few and I'll measure mine.

It's 3.75" from bottom to top, closed. I measured floor to bottom of jack pad on car, and it's ~4.5". My car is only lowered on Eibach sport springs, so John, your car may be lower.

And btw, I can't get our floor jack under my car. I have to drive up on a 2x4 to be able to slide the jack under the jack pad.

Thanks Ryan. Without the jack pad, the measurement from the floor to the bottom of my rocker panels averages about 4.5", (4" in the front) with a quick - not exact measurement. So it seems like that scissor jack would work. My car is not as low now as it was in my SIG pic.

Ryan, John R.: When you say your floor jack can't get under your car, do you mean the central jack point below the front subframe, or the jack pads on the sides? My cheapie HF floor jack easily fits beneath the jack pads, but to jack up the whole front I have to drive up onto 2x4s just like you said. Just did that Sunday to change the oil.

My "low profile" HF jack barely, and I mean BARELY fits with the jack pad, but it does.

I have to stick the adapter, into the pad first, then slide the jack under.

Speaking of adapters, I just picked up one of these:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/200859235208?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Figured for $15 it was worth a shot.

Almost half the price of the ECS one, which I have.

Whoa! You is low! (John Rando too.)

With the jack we have now I have to drive up on 2 2"x4" stacked on top of eachother. I think I've got about 3.5-4" of clearance from jack pad to the ground without the boards.

Pretty cool idea. I have to remove the pad on my autozone floor jack at home and I have never really trusted the jack that comes with the car.

I tried to jack the car up once with the OE jack, about halfway up the jack "arms" started moving horizontally to each other. I quickly lowered the car and found someone with a better jack. (I was at one of my first autox's) Never trusted it again.

I used my OEM jack twice when I did something dumb and car fell off the HF floor jack or car moved and floor jack fell over. Both at track days.

Used the minivan OEM jack last Sunday to lubricate front caliper guide pins and put CRC anti-squeal goop on brake pads. Lifted one corner at a time with floor jack, put OEM jack in for backup, and wheel under car for more backup. Not ideal, but I wasn't getting under the car.

Still gotta be careful with those crap jacks. I almost lost my hand using the OEM jack on the side of the road. I had the spare tire almost on and the jack failed leaving my hand caught in between the tire and the fender. It was just impossible for me to be quick enough. Luckily I had a friend with me to jack up the car real quick. I only use that thing for easy rear spring replacement.

Wow, sounds like I'm gonna get something for my car other than the OEM jack then.

I need a jack to fit under my trunk liner where the spare would be if BMW put a spare in my car (instead they put a battery there). This flat one might fit the bill.

The only thing that drives me from these types of jacks is the price is always sky high. You pay for convenience
