Right now I am driving a 2000 328i with 194k.

The idea was to replace the 328 with a 330i but then I found this ZHP and fell in love. It's almost too nice to make it a dd, dammit. I might keep the 328 or drive my Land Rover Disco in the winter. The Disco is not my first choice as I removed the anti-sway bars, its lifted a bit and is not exactly fun to drive on the highway. Plus, I have a 70 mile round trip to work. What to do, what to do...

Now that I've corrected all leaks, it hasn't used a drop of oil in that 1,400 miles, so the internals must still be good. ;)

Btw fixed my oil leak. It wasn't eating oil it was the front main seal.

BP is right and I did all of Inspection II as one of the first things to "get acquainted" with my car when it needed it at 60k. Was fun and learned a lot. "Hardest" thing was the fuel filter which I think you were there for at Shawn's, can't remember, but yeah, plugs, and oil/tranny/diff fluid flushes are easy. I would not pay anyone to do spark plugs on this car or really any straight/inline/slant six...they are RIGHT there in a line.

Does the tamper dot appear after an accident?It's not supposed to -- only if the numbers between the tranny/lcm/cluster are different, and then, only if one is lower (e.g., you replace a used cluster that has less mileage). You should still be able to hook it up to a BMW diag computer and reset the dot (and show the correct mileage).

If you order certain packages (technology package or navigation, for example), you get the Extended Cluster. The MPG gauge is electronic with a display that extends to where the odometer is. You also get the extra icons available, which you can see in the middle of the first pic, for options like the Adaptive Cruise Control. You'll notice in the last two pics that the only display is where the odometer is. These two are basic clusters.


Cars with the extended cluster look like this. This is from a Sport Line vehicle, which has slightly different styling on the gauge faces:

I think one of my pad sensors went open. Brakes don't have many miles on them and they still feel fine.

That's what BP says.

Don't take my word for it. Do your own research and you'll see that most of it agrees with what I said. There are always the outliers that think they can clean the MAFs but in reality, you don't see those MAFs lasting much longer.

Another lesson to be learned: Do not buy the cheapo crap MAF units, the ones that cost less than $250-300. Any time I saw a post where someone used one, they had issues again shortly after. So far I believe only the OE unit and the OEM VDO unit are good to use.

IF there is any benefit to be had, it is temporary, at best. I've heard from numerous people that are very familiar with BMW repair (they are mechanics, after all) that attempts to clean the MAFs usually end up fruitless, and in some cases, can make the problem(s) worse.

That's just compressing the file size... Not the resolution. Only good way I've found to do this is to resize the actual resolution with Photoshop or some other relevant photo editor.

Thanks. I generally do not put a lot of mileage on my cars, but try to enjoy them all equally. My 2002 M Roadster went over 39K a few months ago. I bought it with 20,454 in May 2004; 19,000 miles in 12 years. I have been driving it more recently.

Now this I understand! I couldn't stand driving from Eastern Market to Fairfax (Vienna Metro stop) for work. The metro took way too long and was pricey and driving was too unpredictable.

It's too damn humid for that crap. lol

My best commute ever was 45 minutes each way, mostly back roads, with no real traffic. I miss that commute so much. Too bad it was only for 6 months.

The only other commutes I've had before that were 15 minutes each way with no traffic. My high mileage for the most part has always been personal mileage, not commute related.
