Heh. There's a local dealer (from whom I purchased my current car) with an '06 ZHP Conv that wants about $21,000 for the car. Granted it has something like 50,000km (30k miles), but still a dreamer.

That's it?! Assuming the average price of each car was $15k (probably on the low side, given that many of these cars must have been purchased at least a few years ago, when prices were higher), here in BC you'd be looking at $27k of taxes alone!

I always consider 'all-in' price when deciding whether or not it is a good deal. I am just about break even on all of my bmw's, even after sales tax, maintenance, aesthetic enhancements, etc. Win some, lose some, with the end strategy being to drive great cars without taking the huge depreciation hit! I enjoy the hunt, the in between, and the sales process. I have made several friends along the way and have earned an honest reputation.

Perhaps when I've had enough of the CPA thing, I'll open up an EAG equivalent in central NJ ;). I've explored obtaining a dealer's license for the sole purpose of avoiding sales tax, and the economics make sense - 7% of a couple hundred grand in gross vehicle purchases more than pays for the cost of the license, but NJ doesn't make it that simple. A physical dealership location with office hours is required. I'm only 31 and enjoying my career - so the BMW thing will remain a hobby for now.
