So yesterday when doing Rob's (Newjack) VANOS we discovered a sweet little critter cache of nuts, leaves, etc.....between his 3rd, 4th, and 5th intake runners (He'll post his pic later). It got me to thinking about my little guys, that like to hang out in my mstrut towers, and sure as shit.....I had a little critter condo in this same exact area. It actually looks like it was snacking on the insulation as well.

I challenge all to inspect this area, with a flashlight and post pics as time permits.

We all have critters and bugs. No getting around it.

What you see below is what you could see without a flashlight. There was probably 4 times this much further down, only visible with a flashlight. Easily removed with a shop vac and snorkel.

So when I did my VANOS at Dane's yesterday I obviously had to pull off my valve cover. When I did I noticed sitting on top of the intake manifold kinda below the fuel rail, a ton of nuts and debris. Now I had just been in this section of my car when I replaced my oil separator system a little over a month ago.

Clearly there has been some little bastard chipmunk or squirrel living or storing nuts in my engine bay. Dane checked his car and in the exact same spot he had debris and stuff too. So I'm wondering, who else has a nest in their engine bay?

Had one of those as well. He too has left the building.

He had to be flushed out with a stick though.

Our cars have a piece of ducting that feeds air to the back of the alternator for cooling that electrical item, a favorite place for critters to make a nest. When you start the car and hit the road, the air intended to cool the back of the alternator forces the nest into the alternator windings, and instant little fire. Ask me how I know...twice I've had to buy an alternator, both on low mileage seldom driven e46s.

had mice imported from Germany in mine. Ate the flame retardant foam under the hood. Once they got stateside and in TX, the little bastards fried in the top shock tower. Had them in there when I got it from the PO and had to be sitting there for a few years.
