What do you mean "sedan style clears"? I've never seen anything other type of clear on an M3 other than what the factory one looks like...

Yea I think Seth was referring to ZHP style clears. They were never made but look better than the standard M3 clears.

So even after all the maintenance I've done on this car, I have her in bmw specialty shop today to trouble shoot some issues I'm having with the power band. Still waiting to hear back on a diagnosis but will hopefully know what's up by this afternoon.

Seth, what's your power output with your supercharger?

UdubBadger
03-18-2015, 01:45 PM
Output is rated at 425whp and 300 wheel ft/lbs on the basic kit. When I change out the pulley, add meth and tune it for 9psi it should be good for over 525whp and 340 wheel ft/lbs. Not ready for that yet tho, gonna upgrade the clutch and flywheel first.

Oh and get used to the power

Car lost about 130-ish lbs or from estimates on parts removed and current part weights. I can already feel the car coming off the line a tiny bit quicker. Seats feel amazing.

Also hard to bolt in on the the inner rear side. The have to use a VERY shorter version of the hardware they give you.

So I've been meaning to get around to this but here is my F/I post from M3f.n

I wanted to start a thread about my travels, questions and thoughts, through the world of FI on my E46 M3. I have owned 4 BMWs thus far and one of the others was turbocharged (135i) but I never got too into the FI part of modding it past custom tuning.

The kit has been on the car for about 2 months now. Here are my impressions of the buying process with Active Autowerke, the install and initial break in and driving.

Purchase
I worked with Viral from Active on my purchase in late February. Very helpful and informative throughout the entire process of feeding me info and working with me on deposit and payment options. I was able to get a pretty great deal on this kit through their promotional price which included the kit and install at an Active Authorized Dealer. Having worked with many vendors over the years, Active was very high on the list of ones I will continue to come back to when I have the chance.

Install
Since I am in Chicago and Active does not currently have a dealer here, I traveled down to Indianapolis to have the kit installed at Ress Motorwerks. I dropped the car off the night before, settled into a hotel room and hung out for the night. The next day they called me in the early afternoon to say everything was on and they were just waiting to flash the DME and I would be all set. I walked over and was given a walk thru of their shop and also of the installed kit on my car. After a little extra waiting on my end in their lounge and a quick replacement of a blown fuel pump fuse, I was off and on my way home back up I-65. Ress was a great shop, highly recommended to any BMW owners down in the Indianapolis area.

Break in and initial impressions
I was told to keep it under 4 grand for about 60 miles to let the kit settle in and the ECU to adapt to the new tuning. This wasn't as hard as I had thought since when I left Ress I instantly hit traffic in downtown Indianapolis. 60 miles passed and when I saw some open road I started laying into the kit a little in 4th gear.
I was instantly thrown back into my seat and the speedometer shot north of 110mph before I knew it. I decided ending up on the wrong side of a radar gun along I-65 was a bad idea but I drove spiritedly back to Chicago with a big grin on my face.

I noticed the gas gauge drains a lot quicker than normal and not because of my driving (well maybe a little) yet my cars computer was telling me I was getting over 36 mpg. I guess it didn't account for the larger injectors... too bad, I almost called my wife to tell her this investment will save me in gas money ... guess not.

I also had to get used to FI sounds again. When I hit the gas and then let off of it, I would hear the release of pressure, however it sounded like it was coming out of my HVAC vents (after a second I realized that makes sense since it's the only open source between the firewall).

After my initial trip back I noticed start up was a little harsh at first, maybe for a couple of weeks but it has been subdued since then. I'm sure it has to do with the adaptation as well as the weather, even though car is parked in a heated garage. The power is still VERY fun however I'm getting more and more used to it which is a good thing I suppose, maybe comfortable is a better word to use.

The only issue I have actually had to fix myself was the trunk latch not closing all the way as the oil cooler bracket was in the way. A simple fix of grinding down the back of the latch with a Dremel made sure the one side of the hood wouldn't pop up while driving when I hit a bump or anything. Hasn't been an issue since.

If any of your are members there and wouldn't mind hitting the thread with a comment now and then the traffic would be appreciated. ;)

Forgot you had the AR20. I was loving the straight piped section 1, but I also had cats at the time so it's a little different. With nicer aftermarket mufflers and headers I feel like rasp pipes aren't necessarily needed but I like nice sounding rasp opposed to the thin rasp produced by the OEM exhaust.

I just gotta say...

I don't normally mind cops. I don't drive like an intentional asshole anymore, normally I just blend in.

Well today, not so much apparently. I was driving to play some hoops, someone brakes hard in front of me to turn left on a side street suddenly, so after stopping, waiting and then getting over into the right lane I gave the car some gas just to be loud in the guys ear while I went by to voice my displeasure. However I only hit it up to about 38 in a 35.

Apparently a cop heard me and chased me down. Pulls me over so when he asks if I know why I was stopped I genuinely didn't know.

He informs me he noticed I didn't have a front plate - required in IL. So I give him the rundown of what happened. I had my front plate torn off by a car wash and so I ordered a new one. While I was waiting for it, the DMV issued me a rear temp plate and registration. Because of that I pulled my front tow hook plate bracket. When the new plate came in today, I brought it out to put it on but after putting the rear back on the car I realized I didn't have the Allen bit I needed to secure it so I kept it in the car and was going to grab it from a friends house - I was also on my way to basketball near that friend's house.

Cop says ok, goes in his car for a min, comes out when back up arrives and asks me to show him plate and all that so I get out and show him in trunk. Tells me get back in and hold tight, then comes back with a ticket for the front plate missing. Tells me I'm lucky he's in a good mood and doesn't want to jam me up with the expensive ones so this is just considered a parking ticket -$35.

So I asked - so you rather I had put back on a temp plate that didn't correspond with my registration, than put the plate in my car and go fix it right away? His reps ones was simply "you need to have a front plate on the car". Ok got it thanks.

I'm not mad at the money but he definitely wasted my time and wtf, why bother with this crap. My story checked out, had evidence I just got the plates back and wasn't just making some story up to not have to run a front plate. I just don't get it.

Similar story happened to me a couple years ago, in NoVA you have to get the emissions test done before you can renew your registration and get new stickers. So, waiting at a light one day, of course, one of the many George Mason police pulls up behind me (car at the time was parked off campus, didn't drive it much, hence the lapse in renewal). Turns green, lights go on immediately. I drive a bit and pull into a safe location, nothing pisses me off more than seeing IDIOTS who think they need to just drop everything and stop in the middle of the road when they get pulled over, no, you put your blinkers on and drive to a safe spot.

Proceed to tell the officer that I am on the way to the inspection station. An excuse I'm sure he's heard before but I had called and made an appointment and tried to be clear I wasn't messing around with him. Tells me (boy) it's Sunday and inspection stations are closed. I say but (sir) it's Saturday morning, I just called them...(boy)I really don't have the time to debate on the day with you, my dispatcher gonna wonder what is going on I'm afraid you're getting a ticket today.

Immediately go get the inspection. Bring papers to court. Timestamp is 10 minutes after the ticket. Judge glances at it, dismissed. Complete waste of time.

Sometimes they just need their numbers and giving you the ticket is them just doing their job. But others, it seems like they get off on it and are trying to get rises out of people. Our incidents are definitely drops in the bucket compared to the bigger issues but even the simple traffic stop can go awry if there is too much ego on one side of the equation.

Denver cops are assholes as well when it comes to plates, parking tickets, etc. It sucks!

In WI, they didn't care that much.

Having the other M3 now, no time to drive E46 or do track days (I work 6 days a week). Want to buy a condo and stop renting soon so I want to pull my equity out of it for a down payment if I can.

Trust me I don't do it with a light heart. Like I said who knows if I'll even go through with the sale.

I'm not fully but that's a good thing. It means she was worth all the hassle of what I been through with it. I wish I could have enjoyed her longer but with a 6 day a week job and growing up a little more for my family it's a good time to let go. We aren't meant to hold onto things in life, everyone/thing has its time and place and then life moves on. Maybe one day I'll end up in another E46 for the track or something, I still believe this is the best all around M3, it just doesn't fit my situation as well anymore and that needed to take priority. A 4 door M3 with the DCT for commuting is just a better fit now and the equity I have in the E46, even though I am losing a ton from what I've spent on it, will help me grow more in other areas.

I hate seeing cars leave their owners who put care into them. However, since the 1 series I've been able to see a ZHP that I loved before your ownership improve and an M3 that was beat turn into a beauty so I'm just waiting to see the love and care you put into the latest car/house.
